I couldn't find anything regarding the languages included in the different region releases yet but maybe someone can enlighten me.

The official sites all say that all four languages will be avaliable on release, but does that mean that every region release will include all languages?
So you could buy an EU version and install the game in japanese?

Region specific most likely. Cheapest way.

If it's anything like XI was (which it probably will be), you can only buy the language version in your specific region. Unless you wanted to have it mailed.

IE. EU version in Europe only, JP version in Japan only.

As I said you could always install the JP version in NA, if you had it mailed or special ordered online or something. But then, you'll have to do the same thing for every single expansion you want to buy. I'm not even sure how that would work with DLC for that matter.

Sorry OP, Japanese version does not come with JP Button, contrary to popular belief. Just install in your native language.

The smart option would be to have you chose which language you want at installation.

The problem with that is, all those languages would take up a lot of space on disk, it's cheaper for them to not include all languages, as it results in less disks used, and less expenses.

Edit: Also they need more English disks than anything else. So silly to have all that wasted data.

I don't think it's going to work like this. XI had region specific software; it's safe to assume that XIV will as well.

That's true and I hope that's what SE is having in mind.

As Osarion said, if you import another version you'd have to import every addon too and DLC could be a problem. And maybe billing too?

The reason I'm asking is because I'd get the EU version but I'm affraid of the translation of item names, locations and so on. So I'd rather play the game with english language.

Guess there's no other choice but to pre-order both versions for now and hope that all region versions will at least include english language.

Here's something weird: in the client while it was loading, a button was in Japanese. When it finished loading, it appeared in the correct language (English) for me.

It may depend on your OS language.
