Console ergonomics for FFXI & FFXIVFollow

Good morning,

So for everyone who is currently playing FFXI on PS2/360 and/or will play FFXIV on PS3, how are you set up? You can use a controller but you still need a keyboard to communicate (unless you're vewy vewy quiet!). Are you sitting on a couch? Do you have the keyboard on your lap? Does anyone have an ergonomic solution to console MMOs? I personally had a hard time on 360. I found it annoying to keep having to put down the controller to type, so I ended up not using it anymore and just using the keyboard for everything. What do you guys think about it?

Thanks for your time.

This in your lap: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/gaming/mice-keyboard-combos/devices/3616

Or if you want a all controller option, http://gear.ign.com/articles/932/932454p1.html

Now it's interesting to note that this little beauty, http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-NetPlay-Controller-Sony-Playstation/dp/B00006SKJ4 , came out around the same time FFXI did so maybe we'll see something similar for FFXIV.

Personally I'm going with keyboard on lap because I did this for FFXI.

"That little beauty" can be made compatible with PC/PS3, and if they don't come out with something similar this time around, I'm simply going to get a PS2->USB adapter and use my old one. It's pretty much the definition of console ergonomics as far as I'm concerned.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I have a wireless keyboard just sitting on the coffee table. Not the most ergonomic solution, but it works well enough. Carpal tunnel is imminent for most of us controller users anyway, so I don't worry too much about where the keyboard sits.

I've always found carpal tunnel to be worse with extended keyboard use than controller use, but maybe that's just a conditioning thing.
