Collector bonus and shipping datesFollow

Let me see if I got this right, the Collection edition gives you a one week start, before the standard edition, starting on Sept 22nd.

But, the game is only shipped/available on Sept 22nd, which means that people outside the US might have to wait some days, to a week to get the game delivered to them, which in other words, the whole purpose of having a 1 week start is useless for these people because they might not be able to play on the 22nd, or even days after that.

Why don't they make the start date a bit later than the 22nd? so everyone that pre-ordered the Collection edition gets to play and use the full extend of the 1 week.

Anyone correct me if I am wrong, I am here looking at Gamestop websites, and Bestbuy, while Gamestop says "Pre order ships on 9/22/2010" if you read the meaning of pre-order, it only means that that is the date when they pick up the game from the vendor and ship it to the buyer, which doesn't guarantee receiving the game that same day. At Bestbuy website, it is even better, they state that "Estimated Shipping Date via: Ground Shipping Delivery 09/23/2010 - 09/28/2010" and the time do not change even if you use Expedited Shipping, which is more expensive.

So in other words, get it from Best buy and you might be lucky to play the full week, or just 2 days before the Standard edition starts.

:) thanks to this amazing info, I am really pondering if buy 2x Collection editions, or just get 2x Standards. extra 30$ seems little, but extra 60$ isn't so little at all.

I do wish they would had put more thoughts about all this instead of just throwing the game in store and giving some Bonus for a 80$ game that they cannot even assure the customer that you will actually be able to have the game ready to run on the 22nd.

So in my point of view, the 1 week pre-release play time, isn't 100% true.

I got to play other games with pre-release week bonus, and their system was a bit better, where they emailed you a 1 week key to activate your game for that time, if you are one of the people that bought the pre-order Collection box, with that key you could download the game and install it, and play every single day during the pre-release, the key expiring on the last day of this period and a new key (included in the game box) having to be activated then.

So tell me, why didn't Square Enix think about all this, there is no information about how this is going to work, we will get a key emailed to us? we will be able to download the game days before the 22nd? or we will have to cross our fingers so we get our box in time to enjoy the 1 week we are paying for?

So it is 100% sure you will get it on the 22nd, no delays?

Can you store pick it up? I saw that if I order them online, the store pick up option is disabled.
#4xthunderblazex, Posted: Jul 06 2010 at 3:37 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I don't know why people are too lazy to go to the store and get it themselves, and rely on delivery services, which are generally more expensive...and sometimes unreliable.

Whether it is guaranteed is between you and your retailer.

Maybe not every one has a lot of free time to buy it from a local store in the middle of the week :P

22nd Sept is a Wednesday.

Buy I guess I will have to do that myself, possibly my husband gets home before the store is closed.

isn't waiting a day or two, it is paying for it, and not getting it :P. I can wait another year if I have to, as soon as I get what I pay for.

As for PS3, as far as I know the Ps3 version have been delayed many times, sadly this last delay is so long.

I wouldn't worry to much about not getting the collectors edition and the included head start on time, once the sites have sorted out their details on the two versions, the collectors edition will no dount have its own release and shipping dates.

That or you will just recieve an email with a link to DL the client and a head start code.

That is what I am hoping for, akelah, as I said in my first post, many things right now aren't set on stone, and there are no guarantees of anything and I hope this would change before September arrives.

I know that sending support tickets asking for information won't help, I tried it already, so it looks that it all resumes to waiting and hope for the best.

:P as for the unhappy PS3 people replying to this thread, learn to read ^^ please, if you are unhappy, angry, take it somewhere else, starting a fight with PC players won't take you anywhere, it isn't our fault the version got delayed.

To me it's not about getting a head start on the other players... I just want to play the game as soon as I can!!!

This doesn't have anything to do with SE but with whomever you buy it from. There are options to have it shipped same day or at your local store. If you don't have either it's most likely the fault of whatever laws your country imposes on this sort of thing.

Bottom line, SE sells their copies to the retailers...it's up to them to get the product to the customer.

yes but why the retailers can't sell those items a week before the game release?

Is that against some law I am aware of?

They may have to pay fines for breaking street date.

It don't know exactly why you can't have games shipped to you early but since this is the case for every game it's either an industry standard or some sort of law is in place.

Especially for an MMO it would be kind of annoying for the majority of people to have the game in their hand for a week or more just so the 1% of people who live in an area that has limited options for games. It's not in the nature of any company to make the vast majority unhappy to appease the small minority.

With MMOs the street date really means nothing. It's when the servers get turned on is when people can start playing. Theoretically SE could ship out the game a month before the servers turn on. What he's suggesting is that to be fair for everyone, SE could ship the game out well before the servers go up to allow for international shipping, installation problems, release date updates, etc. etc.

That's all highly idealistic though. :D

If you are worried about it, go in to a local store that you know will have it on hand on the 22nd, and pre-order it in person. That way, on the morning of the 22nd, you should be guaranteed (unless the store screws up) to have it in your hands.

This is what I am doing at my local EBgames.

:) yeah, I think it is quite idealistic, it seems nothing can be perfect.

Thanks for all the helpful replies, I will give it a try and buy the game off my local stores, hopefully nobody messes up and I get to play as soon as possible. I was just a bit frustrated with information from the online stores waiting time, but if so many people says they have high expectations in getting the game on the 22nd from their local store, then I guess I will do that too.

Good luck and see you all in-game ^^

I'll never understand why there are always shipping problems with releases like this. The developers have a very simple solution, but it's never used (well, it is, but not on a massive scale).

Let retailers sell/ship the game as soon as they get it; it's not like anyone will be able to do anything until SE brings the servers online anyway...

People have the game on time, and no one starts playing before they're supposed to. Why is this such a major issue with every release?

SE is probably pushing the "On" date as much as they can without totally botching the release. The surprisingly early street date surely has to do with the release of other competing MMOs. Plus, selling a game that you can't actually play isn't good press.

Those of us familiar with MMOs see it as a good idea. Media and casual gamers wouldn't agree. Like I said, in an ideal world it would work very well. In the real world, people would see FFXIV on the shelf in Wal-mart, buy it thinking how cool it would be to play a cute Lalafell, then get P-Oed because they couldn't play right away when they got home.

Retailers get the games in store early so they have them on hand for the day of the release. If you pick it up from the store that day, you're golden. If you rely on shipping to get the game, sadly to say that's your problem. There was a time not all that long ago that the only time you got something shipped to you was if you lived in a different town from where you bought it. If you have a retail chain computer/game store in your town, complaining that you can't have it shipped to you in time for the official release date is silly. Git off yer rump and go get it. Convenience always comes with a price, be it your time or your money (or both).

Well when I got my WAR collectors edition, it actually came out three day prior to launch. I needed that long to sort through all the neato things I got, but apart from that, there was plenty of time to install the game, then it was just a matter of waiting for the servers to be turned on.

SE won't have a clue about the shipping date of the collectors, as someone said, it's down to the retailer. Right now the details for the game is all over the place. I've seen one describe the PC collectors as PC and PS3 and are ready for release on the 22nd. As I said, as soon as these sites update their info it'll become clear.

I've ordered enough of these collectors MMOs and so far haven't had a problem with any of them. :)

I always plan for the worst, and in a worst case scenario, I'd rather have someone I can speak to in person about my game not being in the store on time than have to deal with a chat session or a phone call of X online retailer passing the buck on UPS/FedEx/DHL and the shipper passing it right back, only to have either or both hang up on me.

I'm no stranger to internet purchases, but when I have to have a product by a certain date, I'd much rather know that if I -don't- get it, I have a name of a person I can talk to and look in the face of.

I don't recall where I read it, but I think they plan on offering a way to download the game prior to the start date. I'm sure they will also have an "open beta" with a client that is close to if not gold as well, which will be downloadable. They did the same thing for WAR when it launched - they initially gave people a week to input a retail key so their account would remain active (but later scaled it back to only three days to much PR snuff). I would imagine that it would work something like that where pre-orders are given a special temporary code to enter until they get their box set.

There has been no mention of being able to get the retail client prior to retail release. SE can't give pre-order customers a code to enter pending arrival of their retail box because SE has absolutely nothing to do with that end of the supply chain, and if it was a code coming from the retailer, it's a safe bet people would already be seeing it on their pre-order receipts.

Everything we've seen so far suggests you'll need the retail box in hand before you can play the game. Let's not complicate it with hopeful maybes. We've seen what happens to this forum when "hopefully maybes" turn into "WTF **** YOU SE!!"

Oh noes, the interwebz will be in an uproar because of a post using logic and past knowledge as well as a reference might or might not be right. Thank you web police for coming to our aid and letting us know that not everything read on the internet is written in stone.
