Greetings from the Final Fantasy XIV Role-Playing Coalition (RPC for short)! The role-play community has been hard at work these past several months organizing and planning the future of role-play in FFXIV. After much hard work, we have prepared a teaser site of the soon-to-be RP groups of Eorzea. This will hopefully display to the general community that we strive for RP of the highest quality while maintaining unity and diversity.

Edit: The RPC's official RP linkshell directory has launched. Thus, the teaser site will be coming down. All links leading to it will be broken. The link in this post has been changed to lead to the RPC's linkshell directory. There are at least 5-7 more known RP groups to be added after meeting the RPC's criteria.

Without further delay, the RPC is proud to present the first role-play linkshells of Eorzea!

Click here for the RP linkshell directory!

PS: The RPCV (role-play community’s official new podcast) did an entire episode on linkshells/guilds, including interviews of a few of the leaders. If interested, you may find this episode here.

Edit: Updated link.

It's a cool effort and all, and I'm all for role-play, but I can't shake the feeling that you're getting ahead of yourselves. Isn't it a bit early to be coming up with full blown backstories to your groups when most of the lore surrounding Eorzea has yet to be established? It's certainly not too late for SE to go in change some things around. I mean, there's probably enough to go by as far as the different racial clans and whatnot are concerned, but we still don't really know how interrelationships work and how most of the groups function socially. And beyond "exploring Eorzea" being the main premise of the game, we still don't have word one about the main story, the primary antagonist(s), or any major characters for that matter.

I don't know, it just seems like starting to build a brick house before your shipment of lumber arrives. But best of luck, and hopefully you'll get off to a smooth start when FFXIV is released.

Understandable but we actually have plenty of information for ourselves right now. RP doesn't really necessarily revolve around the "main story." It's about creating unique ones of your own that fit into the world. Thus, we really don't need info on antagonists or whatever because we create our own. We've all done extensive research on the current known lore and there is certainly enough information to go by for most RP needs now. Basically, the only info RPers technically need for preparations is that of culture and geography. We have plenty to go by (or at least enough).

Most people aren't in the process of fully fleshing out their characters yet. I wouldn't say we're getting ahead of ourselves. Most of the discussion is about RP in general (like what works well, what doesn't work so well). Personally I have some ideas for my character but nothing set in stone yet.

The only thing some people need to figure out for the moment is what their name will be in the beta if they plan to carry it over. Or if you want to RP with people in the beta, but most people are just doing temporary or supporting characters for that.

But as a new RP'er, it was very helpful to me to visit the forums and learn about the kinds of problems that are common to RP. It's more complex a hobby than I realized, which is good for me because it will add some depth to a game that won't be nearly polished.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

It is a nice looking site, though I do have one suggestion. My eyesight is fairly poor so it may just be me, but the combination of the flourishy font and small size made it really difficult for me to read all of the descriptions for the various RP linkshells. In fact I stopped reading about half way through due to the fact that I was starting to get a headache. Overall the site is cool though and I definitely plan on RPing when the game comes out.

Text size increased. Not sure if that helps any or not. Also, the description for Spectral Wardens has been added. An on/off button for the background music may/may not be added later. Flash isn't too easy to work with (or at least not for me >.>) so I likely won't worry too much about it. Plus, this teaser site is just temporary anyway until the RPC's linkshell section is ready, in which case the descriptions will transfer there along with other relevant info.

I like the look of your site. I hope SE decided to make at least 1-2 RP servers so anyone who wants to roleplay can be surrounded by others who prefer to do the same. I know some friends who tried to RP in FFXI and it seemed they were always frowned upon by other players on the same server. I hate that attitude and dedicated RP servers would definately help with that attitude (and also give a much better RP experience for those who prefer to stay "in character".

A lot of us aren't actually crazy about having dedicated RP servers actually, just because there are lots of us who are lightly RP and still want to get things done as well as play with non-RP friends, and an RP server might be too small.

Official RP servers would be nice in that more people who want to RP would end up on the right server, but I think it's better to have a server that's a good home for people who do and don't RP.

Background music on a website is probably one of the most obnoxious features ever. I'm usually listening to my own music, I don't need yours cutting in.

No need for a rude tone. Just because you're on the Internet doesn't mean manners should be completely disregarded :P

Anyway, background music has been removed. This has also cut the file size down considerably and increased loading time.

Again, this site is only meant to be a teaser site. The actual RPC Linkshell section is currently under construction and all of this material (and more) will be transferred there probably sometime next month.

Hi guys. Quick update. The RPC's official RP linkshell directory has launched. Thus, the teaser site will be coming down. All links leading to it will be broken. The link in the original post has been changed to lead to the RPC's linkshell section.

You'll notice some groups listed here that weren't on the teaser site. You'll also notice some of the groups on the teaser site are not on the directory. Two of these groups (Remnant and House Serith'kar) have shifted their linkshells to other games and thus will sadly not be joining us in Eorzea at this time. However, we still have a plethora of RP groups to be added. There are at least 5-7 more known RP groups to be added after meeting the RPC's criteria. And we expect another 5+ to reveal themselves to us in the next couple months leading up to the launch.

Role-Play Coalition linkshell directory is here.

Internet Explorer users may presently have minor issues seeing some page titles as they're intended to be seen. Technical difficulties with font embedding has set us back in that regard but fonts should be fixed soonish. So if you see unnecessary scroll bars, just realize they're not supposed to be there >.>;

EDIT: Updated link.
