Hey everyone,

I know not everyone agrees they're needed now, but today we added in class forums and a feedback forum. While we understand the feedback given on sub-forums, we've always intended to do a forum for each class as the job forums in XI seemed to do relatively well. Hopefully you all find these new forums to be useful when September rolls around. (which is totally right around the corner!!)

Awesome! Thank you!

Also, is there a reason why my name now appears in blue?

You're at "scholar" status, meaning your posts have been rated up by others to the point where your native karma is higher. You can check out ZAM's info on the karma system for more info on it.

Pikko, I see that the feedback forum exists to provide suggestions for the game to the developers themselves. Has there been any confirmation that we'll have some SE reps poking their heads around in it? Or is it just expected that they will?

Thanks!

You got rated up to Scholar status by other members of the forum, it's a way of saying that your posts have been helpful or appreciated!

Oops, already got answered.

With the addition of Class forums, I think we all need to start thinking a bit more outside the box.

So far, many people have tried to peg the different disciples as slightly modified versions of FFXI jobs. Even now on the new forums we have people making conjurer comparisons to whm/blm, gladiators to paladins, etc. I'm not saying that these comparisons are bad, but we need to start talking up the merits of THE CLASSES THEMSELVES; hopefully this will prevent the shoe-horning that we've seen in FFXI.

When the **** are you guys going to start nesting categories?

i.e.: Allakhazam's Forums > Final Fantasy XIV Forums > FFXIV Class Forums > Lancer

It's insanely annoying that there is no way on the page to go from the class forums to the FFXIV forums. It was annoying with FFXI forums but at least they were near the top of the full forum listing so it didn't matter that much, but now the problem is a lot more noticeable.

(Currently, the tree listing from the Lancer forum is:

Allakhazam's Forums > FFXIV Class Forums > Lancer
                    ^
            Tree branch missing!)

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

Make sensible posts and it'll probably happen. By sensible, I mean legible (i.e. spelling and grammar correct) and pertaining to the topic you're posting in.

Speaking of staying on topic, thank you to the admins to the additional forums.

In other words..

"Make posts that agree with the majority".

Oh sorry.. did I just criticize the Almighty rate system? Let the rate downs begin!

Well, it's true.

As helpful as I generally am, I outspokenly disagree a lot with the majority, and I'm abrasive to people who disagree with me disagreeably. The more you outspokenly disagree, the more disagreeable people you attract, and the less popular you become. I could always take the high road and be nice to ****** but that's no fun.

There are plenty of ******** with great karma and plenty of helpful people with only decent karma.

The trick is to get Scholar or better early on, because your karma is harder to change as your post count goes up. Mine has never changed from Scholar, and it never will. It would take so many ratedowns or rateups to change my status that it just won't happen (people have made concerted efforts to try when challenged). But considering the only benefit to Sage/Guru is a different color name, and I like blue better, I'm content with that.

Getting Scholar is super easy though. If you don't get it by a hundred posts or so without even trying, then you probably don't deserve it. People who don't get it have generally been rated down a LOT.

But yeah, the karma system is kind of lame. It's good for getting rid of the worst kind of posters without relying on moderators, but beyond that it's a grade school popularity contest.

Sorry for the karma rant. Been a few years.

Also, lol @Hyan. I remember that you were rated down a lot when you first started posting (I probably did a fair bit of it myself), but I'm still surprised you're not Scholar. At least from what I've seen you're not nearly as bad as the other Default posters. Unfortunately you'll probably be stuck there forever.

I was Scholar once, lol.

Actually, I've changed from scholar to normal to scholar maybe 3 times in the past month.

And really, it was partly my fault (never go to XI general on the update day and make sense, I warn you) but then I get rated down for completely pointless things too, possibly because of the same people.

It really makes you lose your faith in this kind of system.

Whatever though. Now that my name is not blue it's much easier for everyone here to just look down on me and the resident scholar lurkers will rate me down if I happen to even disagree with a Sage. He's not even a Scholar, he's trash!

If that was you rating me up btw, thanks. I've went from Excellent to Default before too though, so now it's just a matter of time.

You must be riding the line pretty close then. At this point I don't know how hard/unlikely it would be for you to be placed squarely in one or the other, but eventually I guess you'll settle in to one.

It may also be helpful to characterise the classes by Discipline? That way crafters could find their own area, as would the mages and melee DD.

And whilst it might sound silly, perhaps a technical assistance on hardware subforum specifically so the general discussion doesn't get bogged down with people asking whether their computer can handle FFXIV.

I didn't say anything about agreeing with the majority. They key is to do it tactfully, something people usually don't do on a forum like this one because of that perceived veil of anonymity.

By the way, I do like the color of blue on the white background. On the FFXI boards, Scholars show up as yellow on a blue background and it just doesn't look as nice. Sage/Guru colors are reversed; my name as Guru shows up red here, but light green on the FFXI boards.

Oh yeah, I forgot the color scheme is different across boards. Honestly I don't even remember whether sage/guru is the highest anymore. Seems pretty silly to have the two of them anyway since they're not that appreciably different.

I have a suggestion in regards to the additional forums available.

Would it be possible to add a "Guild/Linkshell/Company recruitment forum". I can forsee as we get closer to release a large number of threads popping up with shells recruiting for new members and it may be a good idea to keep these threads from overpowering the general forum.

Click on the "Forums" tab on the top of the website. Scroll down to the FFXIV forums and enter from there. It should retain the blue theme.

I also hate the bright white one. :(

That just redirects to zam.com for me, I think you need to be in a thread to get it to work: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?game=268&mid=1278714411279365977&page=1

*edit* nope just tried it from my link and it redirected again.
