Will there be a THF like class in FF14?

Treasure Hunting, Burst Damage, High Evasion type of class...

likely not since they have spread those abilities in to the different Jobs. BUT... you can mix and match abilities according to interviews so you could make you own thf class.

Hmmm, Pugilist has some abilities similar to THF, steal for example, also according to the official website, they get a big damage output with critical. But they seem to have better survivability than FFXI THF class... looks like Pugilist is a mixture of MNK and THF, with some additions and exceptions :P

Based on what I've read, I'm guessing the Pugilist is going to be assuming that role.

I don't know why SE has failed at this again. People like stealthy classes that use daggers.. it's very, very popular.
It's like they've never heard of a rogue before ..

A pure Thf-like class hasn't been announced yet, but there are more classes in the Alpha .dats than have been officially released by SE.

SE has already confirmed that additional classes will be made available in the future, but we don't know yet if that means retail release or a subsequent update in the next 6 months or so.

This isn't ffxi, Wait till the game comes out then you can see how you can creat the class you want. It's really nice.

One of the threads on here or BG mentions extra classes in some article somewhere. A new class "Assasin" was mentioned. Both sites are held to the NDA so I don't think I'm mentioning anything illegal. I'll find the article and edit this post.

Also, I am sure many classes will be added in the future, so not having a THF right now doesn't mean we won't have one in the future.

but for the classes that were announced so far, Pugilist is the closest to a THF in my opinion, so if you must pick one, I would pick Pugilist.

Anyone know how the skill system works?

Will it be like Diablo where you spend the points and can never go back to change it?

Will it be like FFXI where one character can be anything, but you can only be 1 job at a time?

Not nearly all of the classes are in the game yet. In time we'll have a dozen or so more.

In the mean time, there are daggers/short swords in the game for Gladiators, and jobs like Pugilist and Lancer have THF type abilities. You can make your own THF, or wait to see how the rumored Assassin class will pan out.

No and yes.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I am 95% sure there will more classes then those already announced. Why you may ask? None of the classes announced so far seem to have any form of dual wield, and I highly doubt SE will not be including it.

Why this guy was rated down is beyond me, because he is right. They've said in interviews (can't find the paticular ones but I know they have mentioned it) that if you want the traditional FF jobs then you make them with the diciplines you have available to you. What kachi said about taking pugulist skills and equipping a dagger or short sword with glad sounds about the only way to create the "thief class" at this time.

The cookie cutter class system is gone. Now you build your own class based on your play style. If you want to make a "THF" you need to skill up Marauder for Muderous Intent and Disorient, Lancer for Collusion, Pugilist for Blindside, Steal, and Featherfoot.

Until people figure out what is most efficient and won't invite you if you don't have x skills.

Find cooler people to party with, would be my advice. I know I'll be playing with mostly RP'ers this time around, and they'll certainly appreciate playing with someone who chooses their abilities based on the kind of character they want to make rather than wholly on how optimally leet they are.
