(Note: Community=Company=Guild=Linkshell, etc)

It's no news or surprise, there are indeed a lot of recruitment threads floating around. People who want to snag up as many folks as they can, as fast as they can, and build a large and successful community as quickly as FFXIV comes out. However, most of them jump the gun and have the wrong mindset about a lot of things. Most of them do not exercise foresight and tend to follow years-old MMORPG systems, trends, and management that a lot of us have grown tired of.

Now, as much as I hate to do this because I don't want to be categorized as some one annoying or some one just trying to get any and everyone that I can, I'm personally trying to get together a community, one of a different kind. One that isn't focused on becoming the biggest, baddest, highest level, the quickest. But one that focuses on just having adventures, growing together, having fun, being mature, and most importantly a community that will last.

I've put a lot of thought and effort into this and will do my best to make it a fun place for like minded individuals. No one is perfect and I know I'm no exception, and I hope I am not offending anyone by posting this, but I'm looking for other mature people who simply want to have fun together. A community where the requirements are more dependent on your attitude and personality than your play time and willingness to bow down.

I want to create a community that is void of arguing, name calling, drama, and stupidity. I know I know, this will be impossible right? Maybe not. I sure as **** am going to give it my best shot. So if you're looking for some place that you can make the quickest progress in, be in the biggest group or be the most ultimate in we probably aren't for you. But if you're just looking for a good place to have adventures with mature people and grow and develop friendships together, well, that's what I'm going to try to give you.

At the same time though, I want people to obtain knowledge and to share it with each other, to find out new information, strategies, and ways things will and will not work. I do want us to grow stronger and become proficient, however I'm not going to require anything out of anyone, other than a good attitude. In Eorzea, I hope to make a community for the "rest of us". One where we can exercise common sense and have a good time with all our journeys and adventures together.

If you would like to check us out do so right here. You can also find out some more information about what I'm trying to do here on my blog.

Once again, I'm not trying to spam the boards with a generic recruitment thread, and I didn't just make a account out of no where to spam my generic recruitment topic. Rather, I'm just trying to find a few good people who wish to have fun together in a mature and friendly way, so please cut me some slack.

Thanks.

Good luck with your Community/Linkshell/etc. I've already got one of my own planned, or I'd consider joining yours.

Yeah, there's definitely a lot of technical stuff we're going to have to get through, like what server we'll be on and such, but it will all work out I'm sure. Hopefully Square Enix will release some server information right before launch so people know where to go to meet up with each other. Thanks for signing up to! I look forward to seeing friendly and familiar faces in Eorzea!

Eh, I haven't made any decisions on what server I'll be on or what LS or whatnot... I'll probably just take the first one I'm offered that doesn't have a dumb name.

So many people are still assuming that we will be able to choose servers at release. Can someone help me see the light, was that confirmed anywhere? Trust me, I want it to be that way too.

Anyway, you have a very cool website ready to go and I'm sure you will be successful in FFXIV! If I knew for sure that I was going to be on the same server I would sign up because you have a great outlook on how the company should grow. Best of luck to you!

There are others that I've already promised to play with, otherwise I'd be happy to sign up. Good message, and I would always prefer to join those I know who have been part of the board community.

Good luck to you and yours. If my other plans fall through, I may look you up : )

Thanks a lot. Appreciated.

To answer your question though, which is a completely reasonable question, I do think we will "some how" be able to choose. The reason for this is, if we weren't, friends, family members, etc, wouldn't have a way of getting onto the same server as each other. I'm sure Square Enix knows a lot of guilds/linkshells/and groups want to stick together to.

Now, how they're going to balance this out I'm unsure of, perhaps for new people it will just randomly choose a server to keep things balanced out, but if you so desire you can pick your server. Maybe there will be something like the gold world pass that use to be used in FFXI, but something a bit more streamlined. Maybe to get on a server you'll need some kind of code or pass that you get from some one already on the server?

One way or another I wouldn't worry too much, I'm sure people will be able to end up with those they want to be around.

If we can't there is always the old fashioned way.. make 10 characters until it says "Welcome to "_________".

But seriously SE.. you know everyone hated that. lol.

I can't think of any logical reason against allowing people, especially when you know that many of them already know each other, to choose their own starting server.

I signed up as well. I was in a very similar LS you're planning during my years in FFXI. Although that's long and gone now, I still remember many of the friends I made and the great times we had. Here's hoping for the same in XIV.

If you're interested in RPing at all, I hope you'll pop in on the RPC forum and come to whatever server we decide on. Or for that matter, even if you're not interested in RPing at all, the RP community should be really cool, and it'd be nice if you and whatever cool people you gather come on over to make one extra cool server. That's why I'm getting into the RP scene, to have adventures with some cool people, so RP or no, that's the objective and I hope you'll bring those kinds of players to the server I end up on.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I really like this idea of a shell dedicated to the "experience" of FFXIV versus trying to rush content and sprint to endgame as fast as possible.

I (like others) am still up in the air what I am going to do once FFXIV rolls around in regards to a Linkshell/Company/Guild since I may be starting at PS3 release (otherwise I would definately look into your shell) but I do wish you the best with what your trying to do here.

I hope there are other shells that follow your lead and try and establish their groups as a group of friends and not as a way to be the biggest the fastest. I just hope when I finally make my FFXIV character I could find a LS with similar values.

I'm one of those people who likes to take in the air of the game, meet people along the way and join a LinkShell as a kind of organic part of the experience, but I will say good luck, as your LS sounds like exactly the kind of one I'd hope to find.

Yeah let's get RPC and Transcendence on the same server. I don't plan on role playing because I think it will eventually become draining, but it sure is nice entertainment sometimes.

Better yet. Let's start a new thread as soon as we know the servers and have a poll on which one to go to. The highest chosen becomes the unofficial ZAM server and we can all play together! I bet at least 60% of the forums would join and we could all argue in game too!

*lol edited because I spelled poll "pole" ..

Which one is that Wint? I found a LS forming for XIV back in Feb. when I was browsing around on the SE Members forums. www.rapturexiv.com

I haven't seen many, if any at all of the old folks from RenkeiDorkz or TeamPlatypus around. Although I don't play XI as much as I used to. It would be great to play together again though Smiley: grin

Sounds good. Now lets see if you can bring all that theory into the actual game :)
But seriously this is the kind of LS I'm looking for. Main reason why i played FFXI so long is that i was part of one of the best LS on the server (imho at least :P )
It was all about who you are and not what you are. A max level character with all +1 equipment didn't get you in that LS but a good attitude and fun>efficiency way of looking at things certainly did. That was also the reason the LS was kinda unbalanced. My friend was the only high(er) level WHM and i was the only high(er) level tank (72 PLD) of the entire LS :) Our motto was; "You can do everything, you don't have to do anything"

I don't want to play FFXIV 'hardcore' and main focus will be having fun while exploring/crafting/fighting with the number one focus on taking the time to enjoy the experience and the journey with other players.

So yea I'll sign up :)

I'm waiting till the PS3 release (sadly) so I'll be ready to jump into the game a bit after everyone else is established.

Your LS/guild/clan/group sounds great! I was very interested in doing stuff when I played FFXI. Of course I wanted to level and grow (who didn't?) but I also wanted to explore and adventure. I was always more than willing to help if someone in my LS wanted to do anything, even if it wouldn't help me at all. I just hated logging on and standing around doing nothing. My time was limited to late nights and weekends so when I logged in I just wanted to adventure.
It was very sad when my LS became end-game obsessed, and all those people who I helped "didn't have the time" to return the favor. They played so much that they passed right by me. Quest-wise, level wise, and mission wise. So when I would ask them for help they were "too busy" standing in WG having /shout wars.

I'll keep an eye on your LS. It has the build of something I'd love to be part of. When March comes around hopefully your LS will be everything you want it to be and I'll be glad to see which server you're part of and talk my friends into that server to join you.

Yeah, it'd be great to have Transcendence and the RPC on the same server. I'm wanting to RP this time around because it adds a lot of depth to the game (lots of lore, writing and storytelling elements added on top of the gameplay elements), but like a lot of RP'ers I'm still going to be interested in progressing my character and getting things done. I could easily have a nonRP LS on the side. The main thing for me in XIV is emphasizing fun over progress.

I felt like I sacrificed and worked a lot in XI for my achievements, but in retrospect, that's really not so great a feeling. Not that I didn't have fun, too, but it was because of having cool people to play with.

I have been in some excellent guilds/linkshells over the years that are exactly like your utopian view presented here at the start and then it all goes wrong.

On the Shiva server, I was a fairly early member of the LS, Fable Unity, it was great in the early days and I had a great time there and then it was completely ruined by a few individuals who for some reason found it acceptable to spout hate at people for no particular reason.

I was also a member of a great Guild in WoW on Aman Thul called X-men. I was one of the first members of a guild that got up to about 300 members at one point. Then the two leaders left, I lost a vote to become new leader and then the guy that won the vote booted me and proceeded to skin the guild for all guild items and cash before leaving. (fortunately the old leaders returned and things got back to normal).

I would be interested in joining your "community"!

It is great though that through times in these guilds/ls you do start to feel that there is a backstory and a history, a shared pain and that is great for creating an even tighter community!

What's really good is that we're up to about 20 members so far, so that gives us enough potential coverage for all three starting cities. I'm personally looking forward to trying to reach everyone across the world as a lv-1 to hand over linkpearls. :)

We should get as many members together as we can on Day 1 and go and do some quests(guildleves or whatever) together.

I have booked 22 September as a day off work, will be picking up the game as early as possible Australia time so will be in and ready and waiting as the rest of the world comes online.

Somehow, I don't think FFXIV will be any different in that regard. We still have to discover how mobs react to us, so we're probably going to be horribly disfigured many times in the first few...well, months, if not years.

I've seen it work before, and work well. The Palantiri (LotRO; Landroval server) are reasonably large (their site says 30-40 active members, and double that semi-active) and have done an amazing job of being universally cool people.

===

On topic:

I'll keep an eye on this, 'cause it sounds like you're trying to make it into something worthwhile. One thing I would point out, though: The tone of most of the who-we-are material is very "We are not X. We are not Y. Do not be X or Y or we'll boot your ***.", and comes across as sorta negative. "We are A, B, and C, and expect the same from all our members." would set a lot better precedent.

That sounds like a perfect linkshell for me. I'm not going to sign up because I'm not sure what server I'll end up on though. I'm just going to pick one with a good name, assuming they let us pick.

But after the game is released, if I happen to end up on the same server as you and I see your linkshell around, I'll be happy to join. :P

GL with it and I hope more people follow your lead. The game is just more fun when people focus on having a good time with other players instead of racing for the top spots or being immature about things.

Sounds cool! My best/favorite shells in ffxi were social LS's. You get a melting pot of different kinds of people. If I don't start with some of the people I met in ffxi, I'll look you guys up.
