It will be a 30 day billing cycle (as opposed to XI's "First of the month" rent payment) and will require a credit card. They have made no mention of plans for game cards, but you should be able to use a reloadable card or your bank card if they have a Visa/Mastercard logo on them.

Also a credit card.

As I said, you can buy prepaid Visa cards or prepaid MasterCard cards and load money onto them periodically.

Yeah, nearly everyone has a credit card (many of them who really shouldn't) and most of the few who don't have at least a bank card.

My bank is a local one that doesn't even have any bank branches out of my county (never mind other states or countries), and I have a bank card that works with VerifiedByVisa and can be used as credit or debit.

Going to have to use a card of someone over 18. I used my parents in 2003 for FFXI.

Go to raplhs, buy $30 mastercard gift card, buy game time with card.....when the gift card runs out you can call, add more money from your bank account and continue to use the card.

If you are in the US you can find prepaid credit cards at any electronics retailer, drug store, or grocery store. Most of them do have surcharges on balances over 90 days old, so don't buy a $100 card unless you intend to use it all within three months.

You seem to be getting a little worked up over it, but the prepaid credit cards are a lot more convenient. It is far easier to find a retailer for them than for game cards, and if you have a McDonalds craving, I would love to see what they do if you hand them a Blizzard WoW card. Seriously, somebody do this and take video.

Exactly like that. You may be able to find a local store that sells them that may charge you a little less than Amazon, I know the US ones are a maximum of $5, but being in the wealthiest country in the world, local retailers may try to charge in uncut diamonds. =P

You can go to any local supermarket and they are bound to have a rack filled with prepaid gift cards, iTunes card, and re loadable cards. I'm sure there is a Wal-Mart near you where you can buy one. Whenever you want to reload it you can head out to Wal-Mart and do so though there is some kind of fee (few bucks) to reload it but I think that only applies to cash.

Check out https://www.walmartmoneycard.com/walmart/homepage.aspx
Might answer some further questions about it.

Oh yeah and you can be under 18 to get one but when you set up your card you will have to have a parent/guardian call and verifying the social security number used.

EDIT: nvm your not from the States so this probably won't be of any help D:

Sorry 0rk. All those questions are too area specific for me, or anyone else not from Luxembourg, to answer. The best places to ask are gas stations, generic retailers, and package shipping stores. Banks may be worth a shot, but I know they don't handle them here in the US. Try making a few phone calls and you should be able to turn something up.

You most likely can buy this card from just about any super market/major retail store/gift shop. They can tell you how to use them....it is like having a debit card though. You have $XX amount of dollars you can spend. When it runs out you go to the store, say add more money, pay a small fee and you now have more money on the card.

This. You just enter the numbers into XIV as if it were an actual credit card, and reload teh card at a retailer periodically.

Potential speed bump in the plans for a preloaded CC:

Not sure if SE will implement this, but they made a SecureCode type CC the only method of payment for FFXI about, oh, a year ago. I`m fairly certain you can`t add a security code to a prepaid CC, so if they go with the same billing model and you`re relying on such a card you`re SOL.

So in all fairness, would you be able to point out Luxembourg on an unlabled map? We're talking about a country that is SMALLER THAN RHODE ISLAND. Yes, compared to the 1200 Square mile Rhode Island, Luxembourg is just under 1000 square miles. It has a total estimated population of just over 500,000 people. You could drive through his -entire country- lengthwise in an hour and a half.

So I'd say it is quite feasible that this guy hasn't heard of a prepaid credit card.

Honestly, and no offense to you OP, I have no idea how he even heard of FFXIV.

just to shock guardian ... we have no apple shops etc... we buy the apple products in normal electronic shops
and when you type something like prepaid master card Luxembourg on google you will get results for the UK but nothing for Luxembourg
ALL my friends have a normal student card and nobody in my age is using a credit card
normally you take a credit card when you begin to work ... but in our country most people go to university and began to work at 25 or something like that ..,
personally, i will be 20 this 31 july and i'm a MD student

so i have no choice ... take one at the bank ... i will ask my father for it or ask HIM to pay it with HIS card ^^
you have such a chance to have something like that ;)

Man, that really sucks. It's $12.99/£8.99/€12.99 per 30 days (I don't know what currency you use; I assume the euro) so hopefully you can convince him to put it on his credit card and just give him the €13 in cash.

lol @ "DEBT cards". (debit)

Also, did you -not- read the whole "He lives in Luxem-@#%^ing-bourg thing?

Admittedly, I don't know very much about his country, but considering it's roughly 80% of the size of the SMALLEST US State, and that the ENTIRE COUNTRY'S POPULATION is smaller than most US cities, I'm not exactly picturing the guy having a 7-11 and a Walmart on every corner.

No, no; not small town, small country (although one would logically assume that also implies he's probably in a small town too). The capital and -largest- city of Luxembourg is about 88,000 people.

Two things:
1) I've always wondered what Maestro is. I've seen "We accept..." pictures that list Visa, MasterCard, AmEx, and other stuff I've never heard of or seen like JCB, Diner's Club, Maestro. Interesting. But yeah, the card will likely have to have a Visa or a MasterCard logo to be accepted by FFXIV.

2) You never really realize what you have until you hear from someone that doesn't have it. I never thought I'd be saying this, but your post almost makes me glad I have a McDonalds a block and a half away. Wish it were a Taco Bell or a Quiznos, but hey, it's better than nothing.

That's another thing about European countries; most kids grow up speaking 2-3 languages on average. America is one of the few countries in the world where most youth aren't bi/trilingual at a young age.

That sounds like a really nice place. Don't mistake my ignorance or jealousy of your beautiful country for animosity towards you as a person. I've just lived in a big city my whole life and obviously know nothing of your way of life over there. It was just puzzling to me that you've no experience with plastic. I'm slightly confused, because you go to university in Belgium, but you live in Luxembourg; do you just take the train/bus to university every day? That's gotta be rough. Many American students typically live on or near their university/college campus so that there is little to no commute, but I figure you've gotta be at least an hour away by vehicle.

I've gotta figure that the lack of fast food chains likely means you eat way healthier than I do though.

It seems like a nice place to live, actually.

By the way, does anyone know if you need a North American Billing Address (like the NA Playstation Network Shop does) in order to pay with your CC?

I do hope it's like FFXI (meaning that they accept CCs from any country).

Yeah, it's hard to picture not living in an urban area when you have grown up in one. I've lived my whole life in Baltimore, MD, US, and my parents were considering moving to Sparks, WV. Ever hear of the place? Me neither. They looked at some houses; the closest diner/restaurant was 25 mins away and was a ma-and-pa establishment. The closest 24-hour ANYTHING was 45 minutes away. They were floored at the idea that there wasn't a 24 hour convenience store within 5 minutes.

Gives the words "Convenience store" a whole new meaning when you consider the people who live without them.

I doubt it. You might need to buy the EU version of the game if you live in Europe though (as opposed to the NA version or the JP version). But I don't see why they wouldn't accept a billing address in another country besides the US and Japan.

Yeah, the page is dynamically generated, but it does appear that they have locations in your country.

Semi on topic, FFXI now requires Credit cards signed up with "Verified by Visa" or "Mastercard Secure card" internet protection before any transaction can be completed. [I know this, because I attempted to go back to FFXI temporarily for a few months. . .what a nightmare *THAT* turned out to be]

So the real question is, are they going to require any credit card to be signed up for one of the above services in order to purchase game time on FFXIV, or is this just something they're doing with FFXI to kill the game faster so they can shut down their servers?

And if they *DO* require verified by visa or Secure card, can pre-paid cards even be set up on these services? I went through 5 or 6 credit cards in my extended family just to find *ONE* that was compatible [example: The issuer of my Master Card was setup with Verified by Visa, so my card was ineligible--I called them to confirm this]

I doubt it. You might need to buy the EU version of the game if you live in Europe though (as opposed to the NA version or the JP version). But I don't see why they wouldn't accept a billing address in another country besides the US and Japan.

The problem is, I live in none of those continents (in case you're wondering, South America).
I've often ran into the "US CC Onry" (FFXI reference) when trying to buy things online, especially on the PSN.
Well, time to cross my fingers, I guess.

By the way, if you're surprised by the fact there're few 24-hours shops in Luxembourg, they're pretty much non-existant over here, lol.

for the moment there are the summer holidays , that's why i'm in Luxembourg
but normally i'm 5 of 7 days on the university on Liège where i have my own "appartment"
and the train takes 2 hours to get there ( and then take the bus which takes 15 minutes maybe)
that's why i don't have a driving licence, the train costs 1,80 euro ( you can check the USD) to go there with a special university abonnement ... i will not imagine how much it would cost to have the car assurance , the price of petrol, and you don't go out a lot when your a MD student ^^
so it 's much better to pay the 1,80 euro ;)

It's entirely possible that they may go that route. A lot of places are really liking SC/VBV for the added protection layer it affords.

Also, Foamy is awesome, but the older stuff was better.

I doubt you'll have that problem... but I'm no fortune teller.
