First of all, i hate all you beta invitees! Been playing FFXI since it launched on the ps2 til now and regstered my ffxiii code on site which i signed up for day1! and nothing!

OK, i feel better now. Just kidding about the above by the way.. hope you all enjoy.

Here is my question:

I just picked up a Alienware M17X

Core 2 Quad Q9000 2.00 GHZ 4GB Ram 64 bit Win 7 OS

My video card is a Geforce 9400

I am only getting about 700 on the benchmark, Is that normal?

My other pc which has less specs (also a quad core 8GB RAM, 9800GTX graphics card) gets about 4500 on the test.

Is it just cause this is a laptop that my score was low? is this typical?

or are my settings wrong on this machine that makes it score so low?

anyone know?

laptop GPUs are significantly underpowered compared to their desktop counterparts, i'm not too surprised at the scores.

That seems very low. My 2 1/2 year old toshiba satellite scored a 411.

thanks for the prompt reply.. disappointing.. I looked on that webpage, although my graphics card on my pc that scored well is in the middle of the list, that computer got 4500 easy on the test..

So, no out of the box laptop would be suitable for this eh?

Desktop is the way to go. They're cheaper and upgradeable.

Unless you paid $1300-1500 or higher for that box, probably not, no.

I think you might be able to get SOME performance out of the laptop, but it's not gonna be great. I've heard tell of the game being playable (away from crowds) on a machine that got 1100 or lower on benchmark. It seems to me like a lot of it is going to boil down to just how picky you are about performance, and what you're doing. I doubt you'd want to spend much time in Limsa Lominsa, but you could probably kill bees in south gustaberg.

I score around ~1150 with this desktop pc and I only get about 8-10 fps on average. It's pretty rough, though to be fair, I haven't touched the graphic details yet.
