Currently with my pc i am getting 4206 on 720p and 2453 on 1080p, I'm wondering if someone has a good guide for beginners overclocking. I'm not inexperienced with computers so id imagine I would know a little about the terms and whatnot a guide would use. I just want to improve my scores to run 1080p with better than default settings.
Here are my current Specs:
EVGA X58 Classified 3-way SLI mobo
Intel Core i7 920 (dummy OC enabled)
6 Gig Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600
EVGA GTX260 Superclocked Edition video card
Cooler Master V8 Heatsink
ABS Tagan 1300W Power Supply
1TB Seagate HDD

That 260 isn't the best of video cards. It's also already overclocked, though can probably be overclocked more. Your best bet is to upgrade it.

Really, it's only a good idea to do sli if you buy top of the line video cards...otherwise just buy a single card of better quality. If I were you I would just hold off until you can buy a better card. In the meantime you can still play FFXIV really well on 720p...I doubt you'd notice much of a difference between 1080p and 720p unless there's no way to change the ui scaling (ui is usually smaller the higher the resolution so unless there's a way to change the size of the UI it might be bigger than you would want).

Given that your score isn't bad with what you have, a SLI might give you pretty decent returns, however, you will need to wait for Nvidia to optimize drivers for the SLI. As they aren't enabled in the benchmark by default (you can trick it though), I would certainly estimate it would give you a playable framerate, but don't expect to be turning everything on at 1920x1080 without investing into at least one high-end DX11 card.

yea i like playing on 1920x1080, its what i play all games on right now and i was hoping to do the same with FFXIV, guess ill just do a trial and error with the settings and see what happens with it. I might try to do some more OCing on the card to see what i can squeeze out of it cause it being the superclocked already the heat output is still normal so that shouldnt be a worry for me. ill read through some forums and see what i can come up with though, thanks for the input guys!
