The official FFXIV Twitter account tweeted this a few hours ago:

Check the official site or the Beta Test Site for an important notice regarding the purchase of FINAL FANTASY XIV.

I checked the official website and didn't see anything new. Am I missing something?

I think they mean this:

Service accounts for FINAL FANTASY XIV and the FINAL FANTASY XIV Collector's Edition can only be added for the same region as your Square Enix account (Japan, North America, or Europe). The game cannot be played if the product region is different from the Square Enix account region, so be sure to check the region for which the product is intended before making a purchase.

What is that BS.

Are they planning on delaying Europe or something??

It's to prevent Europeans from buying the NA version of collector for the goodies. I think some people wanted to do that. Or buy the Japanese version.

i believe what they mean is, if your registered your SE account as in United States, you should not be getting a JP copy of the game

How do you check under which country your account is registered?

I logged in and checked the "Account Information" section but it only displays birth date and e-mail address.

So that means i won't be able to purchase the NA version and fill in 'Alaska' as country during account creation like i did with FFXI ;-P

I don't think it's part of your account information, it just depends on which regional site you signed up with (squareenix.com versus squareenix.co.jp).

That's really dumb, but I guess it shouldn't have been unexpected. I have both an NA and EU Square Enix account because I had to make an EU account to register my POL/Final Fantasy XI information, and everything else is on my NA account. I'm preordering the NA version of Final Fantasy XIV, but I remember SE mentioning in an interview that they were figuring out a way to transfer friends lists, which I, and I know a few other people in this situation, won't be able to do cross-account. What's the deal?

this is not a good news for me because i thought they won't hv different versions this time but obviously they do hv by the information they give out. I'm trying to enjoy the game in jp but unfortunately i pre-ordered my NA version FFXIV CE already :/ I might probably hv to get the jp version ordered too now.

Yer, this can be a bit of a problem for those of us in places like Australia.

Half of the time, the games we buy are from the US.

Half of the time, the games we buy are from the UK.

So, if you have a SE account registered for as NA (for ffxi, etc) and you preorder from your local store, and end up with the UK version, you're screwed.

:/

I've had 2 SE accounts. My first one was a NA account, and my second (because I moved, and replaced my PC, and lost my account info) was a UK account, because that is what the local shop had.

I understand the logic behind the decision, but I still think it causes unnecessary problems for people who are in weird loopholes. And SE is not typically one to make exceptions for people in weird loopholes. I think they tend to forget that outside of North America, Europe, and Japan, there are quite a few other countries in the world they're forgetting about. And that sometimes people move to a different country as well.

There is no logic here. What, they want to further STOP sales of the game before it even launches? They expect certain regional versions of the game to suddenly be hackable if played in another region????

it's all about pointless control ><

I remember when ToAU came out, the PC version in US got pushed back due to manufacturing error or whatnot. We ended up Downloading an .iso of the EU version of the game and buying 360 versions of the expansion for registration codes. Something tells me that won't work now, huh?

As far as people complaining about needing to do port forwarding to get the p2p downloader to work, I'm sure the retail release version will just open up the ports for you like Blizzard did. I never had to manually go in and open up firewall exceptions and port ranges for WoW but when I look, they are there, all by themselves like magic. =P

https://dev-na.ffxiv.com/ <<<<< US <<<<< paying bill in USD
https://dev-eu.ffxiv.com/ <<<<< Europe <<<<< paying bill in Euro-dollar.

So if we are supposing to be getting a euro version, but end up getting a US version, i assume we can just apply for a new id in the US website?

I mention this because i have registered both long as the first time i registered in the wrong category and i think i am also buying a wrong category game version this time? lol
