A word of caution for those preordering CEFollow

I mentioned this in a thread earlier and realised it'd be good to make sure everyone knows about this. I have a friend who ordered Aion when it released last year who missed out on headstart because he preordered too late on amazon. Most outlets have a cutoff point, where they'll still sell you the game, but they wont be able to give you a headstart code. Basically, if you want to buy the CE, and you know where you are buying it, make sure you check the latest date that the headstart code will be available.

I know most people will order well in advance but for those who are putting it off, make sure you check this detail out or you could miss out on headstart.

Appreciate the concern, but why do you assume XIV will require a special code for the Early Access feature?

Personally, I think it'll just be free access with the software, or your game registration code will simply be tied to the version you buy. Registration codes as in the same as XI used (everyone gets\requires one in order to sign up for an account).

Well it depends entirely on how you'll be getting the game, I know when my friend ordered Aion he downloaded it in advance, and the box was useless to him before the actual release date. The headstart codes were sent to people by email and were seperate from what came with the game itself. If the game box is shipped with the code inside then you're right, it wont be a problem.

Actually, that's not going to be an issue in FFXIV's case. Aion's early access was handled as a pre-order bonus through select retailers, not as an included bonus for buying the CE.

The FFXIV Collector's Edition doesn't allow early access with a code, but rather allows early access in that it releases in stores 8 days before the standard does. No matter where you buy the Collector's Edition from, you're going to have access to the game the second you install it and enter your usual individual game key provided in the box. :)

Of course, nothing beats buying it off Amazon.com for $74.99 shipped (they only charge tax in 5 states), with Release Date Delivery (which you can get free if you've got a college e-mail address)!

Ah that's good, thanks for the information :)

Disregard this thread then folks, it's happily redundant :D

Still quicker to wake up, take a shower, get to the mall a few minutes before the game shop opens, get your pre-order, gtfo, and play for several hours before the fed-ex guy makes his rounds.

If I'm going to take the day/week of vacation to play I don't want the work day to be over by the time it gets there.

I've been thinking about taking that Wednesday - Friday as vacation, but I'll probably only end up taking Thursday and Friday, as I don't trust SE to keep the servers up all day on Wednesday, not to mention patching....

I think if anything I will take the next week off or a few days, rather than the first days of the game, for those reasons.

Assuming your store of choice actually has them in stock by the time they open, and don't keep you waiting for a delivery truck for hours, whereas your USPS/UPS carrier could pass by your house in that time. :P

Still, it's true, there are pros and cons to each method; I just prefer the one that saves me the most money and gas, hehe.

Our local Gamestop usually does a midnight launch for us, I hope they do the same this time. They are a good group of people, they let us in early for the FFXIII launch and had videos playing and other things going on to keep us occupied until midnight.
