Every time I think about playing a game, I just sigh and think "Ya, but it's not FFXIV..." I'm staring at the calendar like a little kid staring at the school clock the last day before summer vacation.

The wait is killing me, but not in the same way.. I need a job like yesterday if I'm going to be able to buy a PC by September. Trying so hard, but no one is hiring...

Usually around the end of August, beginning of September; is when a lot of companies start hiring more people due to college students going back to school as well as High School students. End of January, beginning of February is also a key time to put applications out to places. Another month and a half and you should get something. You should have 1 or 2 paychecks just in time for FFXIV.

Also when applying.. don't pass up fast food places. Yeah we have all heard the horror stories but having past experience myself it's not as bad as what you think. Time flies pretty quickly. That and half off because of employee discount whenever you go in and buy food. Can't turn that one down. My favorite food place to work was Subway.

It's really killing me too. I refresh the forums at least 50 times per day. I changed my work schedule to have more hours to play when it finally arrives. Now I need to get a girlfriend fast because it will never happen post-release.

I seriously wish they would release the Character Creator early so everyone can mess around with it, since I hear it's pretty extensive. I would be more than content with that.

Thanks for the perspective; gives a little hope, lol. I've hit pretty much everywhere - I had never wanted to apply to the McDonalds of the world, but for XIV, it's worth it. ****, I applied to all twelve 7/11's in the area.. Desperation is not pretty!

I wonder if those cash-advance places take someone who just got a job.. Might come in handy.

A day after my b-day for me but I'll probably hold out for the PS3 version. Even though the wait is going to be at least a few months longer than mid-sept I still cant wait for the PC release. I want to learn more about the classes and start making plans for once I begin the game.

I hear you all. Worst thing for me is that my job gives me a six week holiday (vacation) ending at the beginning of september. Then I will be soo busy. But I suppose theres a chance I will get a beta invite, and there will be a ton of stuff to read about over the summer.

Oh and regarding finding a gf, forget it. Even if you get one lined up she isn't going to want you spending 24/7 playing FFXIV. Advice is, wait til launch, find a girl that wants to play FFXIV and let her use your PC 'cos hers isn't up to it, girl on lap game on PC.. what better.

Coyohma, those cash advanced places aren't worth it, you pay them back almost double what you took out, it will be much better to wait!

I'm just hoping the count down is more like 44 days instead of 66 on the account that they will probably want to run a small open beta in early September to stress test the servers and downloader.

Same here.

Best way is to do the opposite and not think about it. Otherwise you will keep refreshing the page but there's not much information coming out in beta.

It seems that Wow has very high rate of being hack, i do hope people do make full use of the security token sold by SE to prevent all these lost of item/character. It may sometimes be troublesome to enter those digits everytime you login, but i feel it will be nice to have one linked if you are playing on PC.

Of course the evening before CE releae, I'll purge the DDO client. :D

If you take a drink every time someone says the word friendship in that game, the corny plot becomes much more bearable, but you might not make it to the end.

That said, the game play is AWESOME, and like everything in my life, makes me think of FFXIV since attacking from the back of the monster gives you an advantage ^_^;;

I'd manage your expectations here. There have been some notable setbacks in the alpha and closed beta versions (as one example, PS3...). I can't categorically say that there won't be an open beta, but I think you should probably brace for the disappointment that there may not be one!

I can't wait until the game is released! I'm beta testing but it's not even close to the same as release for many reasons. I'll be picking up Starcraft II at 12:01am on Tuesday but I'm still more excited for FFXIV - SCII is there to keep me busy for the following two months.

I am really looking forwards to getting the game as well. Haven't played FFXI for a while (read: years) and can't wait to get my hands on FFXIV. I am passing the time with making a new ffxiv database... made http://www.finalfishing.com more than 6 years ago but this time I am trying to get all the Disciples of the Land instead of just fishing. Hope it will be a hit and that it can help out some new players.

Eh, after Lothering and up until the Battle for Denerim, it's pretty open ended; no more or less so than Mass Effect. It's no Oblivion/Morrowind/Fallout if what you're looking for is a really, really open world, but it's pretty fun. I've beaten it once as a City Elf and on my second playthrough as a Human Mage now; planning to go Arcane Warrior and try to ghetto tank. I'll probably fail epicly, but meh.

I like the story openendedness of it, in that there are a ton of places where you truly -do- have a decision to make; for each of the main three factions, you have at least one important decision to make regarding who to side with that will help you out later.

As for the map, it reminded me of one of the things I liked about Oblivion better than Morrowind; the quick travel. Although I think I liked Fallout 3 better, in that you could only quick travel to locations you had been to (as opposed to Morrowind where you couldn't QT anywhere or Oblivion where you could QT to any city).

The only thing I pseudo-dislike about DA is the fact that I think it would be made better if it had a multiplayer option. Closest you can get to multiplayer Dragon Age is DDO.

Yeah, no one asked me.

Oh, it seems in the character creation screen for females you'll have the option to set the size of her bewbs.

I can't read that picture; it's in Japanese.

There have been hints that bust size will be adjustable in the creator, but I thought I heard some rumor that bust size would be tied to something irrelevant, like eye color or nose shape; that changing that would also affect the bust... sounded off to me.

I would hope that they'd include the option as it's own standalone.

The more options the better, I guess. Hey, this could help in spotting phonies...

Yeah, it's a pretty safe bet that characters walking around with the largest possible bust size have a larget statistical probability of being dudes.

DD or higher = almost certainly a dude.
D = very likely a dude.
C/B = could go either way.
A = lolicon dude.

EDIT: I managed to make post #7,000 include breast size and lolicons without making it an off-topic post. I'm pretty proud of myself, in a sad way.

speaking of making spread sheets nad guides for crafting, was gardening ever really figured out in FXI? I remember collecting Hundreds of "plantings" worth of data tracking 12 variables (time of planting, fertilizing and harvest, Day of planting, fertilizing, and harvest, Moon phase of planting, fertilizing, and harvest, what was planted, what pot was used, which wall of the house it was on... And we never figured out how to always get exactly what we wanted, though most of the time we could come close...

That was one messy spreadsheet.

I can't concentrate on anything. This is going to be a really long two months! And... my copy of the game won't even be arriving till the second week of october. frigging amazon.

Not remotely worth it, the interest rates are insane. Most vendors offer payment plans anyway, newegg has a pretty nice deal atm for 0% interest for 12 months, except if you don't pay it off in full within 12 months the interest rate jumps up to 22%/year.
