I found this little tidbit in an interview with the director of FFXIV, and I thought you might find it interesting...

"Okay, uh, this time we have this, uh, called 'company' system, which is like advanced system of linkshell, which you will be able to level up as a group - as a whole - and, uh, we will...let you know more information shortly, so we can't disclose too much information at this moment, but also as a community tool people have this community website which you can still check out company status and your own character status so they will be able to enjoy the game even if you're offline of the game."

To me, it sounds like Linkshells are going to play a bigger part in the story, and will have it's own level of progression like how when you give a town gaurd crystals it raises your mission level, therefor giving you access to more missions. So, yeah, I think there are going to be Linkshell based activities along with it's own progression meter.

The website sounds cool too.

That sounds interesting. I hope they implement a Guild/Company Castle! I like systems where certain buildings you produce give small benefits to the netire Guild. Like reduced death penalty, mount speed etc.

Though if SE keeps the linkshell system from FFXI, I could just switch out my current linkshell for another with more pertinent bonuses or somesuch.

Meh, either way I want the Linkshell system, having a linkshell for social, a RL friends only (we had diff endgame LS's), and an endgame was a huge boon for me. Staying connected with people who had similar interests, but differed enough in play time goals was probably the best thing about FFXI for me.

Giving people within a company the option to "link" personal housing would be the best. Nothing is as satisfying as being able to show off your great house in game as opposed to just posting screen shots.

Yeah can't wait. I'm really looking forward the HNMLS scene in FFXIV.

Seems like the armoury system is a bit more dynamic, allowing Linkshells/Companies to really vary how they tackle monsters. I wonder how all the disciplines will tie in together to create a badass linkshell/company.

Smells like a similar system to Warhammer. Your "linkshell" also levels up with you. The more experience members get, the more experience the LS gets. When your LS levels up, the LS (the actual LS itself, not its members) gets points which can be used to buy certain stats. These stats affect all members in the group. eg. you can buy "Exp Up" which will give everyone in the LS extra exp per mob killed.

This is almost exactly how EQ2 did it as well. Only in EQ2, your LS Guild was able to buy more lavish Guild Halls and had access to more vendor items/mounts/house furniture you could buy as it grew in levels.
