42 posts seems to have some updated info on the Collector's Edition; great news, if true!

Best Buy just recently put the CE up for pre-order, and don't write their own product details, so they likely just have the most updated and specific official product information of the retailers posted. Sure, S-E may have shot down the idea from an e-mail shot them at the beginning of the month, but this is the latest CE product details to be posted, yet! wrote:

* Collector's Edition includes Early Access — play eight days prior to the release of the Standard Edition
* Also includes a behind-the-scenes DVD offering an inside look at the making of Final Fantasy XIV with exclusive videos, interviews and more
* Also includes a Final Fantasy XIV-branded Security Token to be used in addition to your regular password and a beautifully bound Travel Journal to record your travels that is filled with pages of never-before-seen concept art
* Also includes a voucher to receive a personalized Right of Passage certificate; free gameplay for 30 days; a buddy pass to invite a friend to play free for a limited time; Final Fantasy XIV Online game disc and manual
* Additionally, this edition includes two in-game items — the Onion Helm and Garlond Goggles — to quicken recovery following a knockout and increase the speed of skill progression as you embark on this epic quest
* Choose your play style — from the lone mercenary without much time to spare, to the legion of comrades fighting for days on end
* Embark on quests set in a persistent and evolving world filled with immersive storylines and thoroughly developed characters
* Equip your character using any of a wide array of weapons and tools in the Armoury System, allowing you to fully alter the gameplay and develop your character
* HD-quality, real-time cutscenes narrate the storyline between the exciting action, and the breathtaking musical score, created by renowned Final Fantasy series composer Nobuo Uematsu, immerses you in the story
* This product requires an active Internet connection, monthly recurring subscription fees and agreement to certain license and usage terms (available at FINALFANTASYXIV.COM)
* Currently, children under age 13 are not permitted to play; users 13 – 17 require parental consent and users are granted a limited, revocable license only and do not own any data or intellectual property generated during gameplay
* For 1 to 10,000+ players

Good news about both bonus items included in this edition! Sucks to be under 13, or have 10,001 friends, though. [face_tongue]

If it's true, then this is great news. When a buddy of mine was showing me the details about the SE and the CE, the first thing he asked while reading it was "does the CE include both items"? I wonder how long we'll be seeing people run around with the garlond goggles and onion helm on if this does end up being true.

That would be AWESOME, since I pre-ordered a CE, but I have a feeling this isn't the case. I haven't heard that we'd get 'both' from anyone but Bestbuy. And weren't the Goggles supposed to help people who didn't get to play eight days early... catch up?

I could be wrong though. :] We'll see.

Well, like I said, it's not like Best Buy typed up that info; they just use the press info from the publisher, so this seems pretty legitimate!

We shall see, but things seem positive! ^_^

I've just personally always figured I would get them both. Even though I know CE has always said onion and SE goggles. I just assumed it would get changed because it seemed way too silly to tell the people that pay you a extra $25 that there gonna give the people that buy the SE something that you can't have, even though they would buy the SE no matter what.

BTW you should take note that best buy's SE does not mention the goggles what so ever, which would sway me to conclude that best buy just messed something up.

That was an assumption, but the "intent" has never been stated as far as I know.

"The community has been a little confused about the news yesterday and the difference between what in-game items are included (or not included) in the Collector’s Edition and the standard edition. We shot Square Enix a quick email to help clear the air. To put it simply, the Collector’s Edition only comes with the Onion Helm – it does not include the Garlond Goggles. We hope this clarifies things a bit for some people."

This is info coming directly from Square, as asked by Eorzeapedia. I'm pretty sure Best Buy's wrong. They're definitely not in any special position to have some kind of insider secret/surprise info. I'd like for them to be right, but I am very doubtful of this.

When I last checked the info on the two versions on the FFXIV site, it's still only the helm for the CE. Because of that and SE's earlier response, until I see something official from SE, I will continue to expect the two items to be separated between the two versions.

I wouldn't hold your breath with regards to the CE getting both IGI.

Edit : NVM re-read, saw it as part of another listing

Alright, so I'm getting a Helm! Yeah!
I'm not complaining at all. Sure the goggles look pretty cool, but I get to play eight days earlier. >:D I mean, who would want to level faster anyways? You wouldn't get to spend as much time enjoying everything!

Logically, one would -assume- that the CE would include both, but SE directly said that the goggles were coming with the SE to help the SE players "catch up" to the people who started 8 days before them. If CE and SE both come with goggles, that statement makes no sense.

Plus, the official site still says hat comes with CE and goggles come with SE.

Again, I'd like to have both, but I'm pretty sure I won't. It seems, however, that some people are pretty enthusiastic about WANTING to believe that what SE is telling them is wrong, and to that I can only say that I expect they're setting themselves up for disappointment unless SE changes their mind.

SE wrote:

* The goggles are meant to help players who pre-order the normal edition to be able to catch up to those who got to start early with the collectors edition.

Yes, but if you hadn't noticed, I had already mentioned that, and that that e-mail posting was from the first of July, over a few weeks before Best Buy posted this product info. It's hard for Best Buy to be wrong when they just copy and paste the product info provided to them from the publisher.

My friend e-mailed S-E on the matter around the same time as Eorzeapedia, and was told that it couldn't be confirmed whether the goggles would or would not be concluded.

Methinks the FFXIV sales team knows more than the S-E customer service, though. ^_~

I wouldn't be shocked if the armbands only boost your rate of gaining skills for the first ~5-10 levels or something.

SE stated directly that the goggles would only be included in the standard edition, therefore giving players starting 8 days later a way to catch up the first few levels.

It must be a mistake on BestBuys part.

I'm sure its a mistake on Best Buy's part, but really from a business aspect of it why the **** wouldn't SE offer BOTH items in the CE? I would think a few more people may buy it thinking they absolutely need both items to not be at a disadvantage to other players even if the in game items really are trivial like i think they will be. But then again, SE may know the exact number of CE they are going to sell and know it will not be a problem selling every one they are putting together.

Either way, I ordered the CE for the other stuff like the token and such. And the two items they are giving out at release i am sure are for the most part are "useless" as far as being something we will use for only so often or just have a set amount of charges on them like the experience bands in FFXI and such.
