There seems to be an even smattering of PC versus PS3 players, or perhaps there are slightly more PC players, and I'm curious where do you play video games in general (and this one particularly). There are good arguments for the console because you can sit on your couch/easy chair and play, and there are also those who are set up so that their PC is connected straight to their TV so they too can enjoy the cushy goodness of the living room.

I tend to be more of a computer desk kind of guy. In fact, I would say I'm obsessed with finding the perfect layout for my desk. I've read all kinds of articles, researched what others have done, and then drew up and built my perfect computer desk. It's nearing completion, I'm finishing the trim now (still need to stain and varnish one more piece) and then I will be making drawers for the center shelves (see below pic).

I invested in a very nice office chair so as to have maximum comfort. The far right monitor is small and is used for chat windows, ventrilo, etc. The next one to the left is my main gaming monitor, the PC that is between them is my gaming rig. Next to the left of the center shelves is my multi-purpose monitor, on which is displayed my Mac Mini's video as well as anything that is hooked up to the 4-port KVM. Lastly I have my iPad mounted on my other monitor arm for easy access while working, it is affixed with heavy duty velcro so I can remove it easily.

I love seeing what others have done, if you feel like sharing please do Smiley: nod

Comments and critiques are also welcome, I tried to fit everything into my design that I could, but there is still some more work to be done. I have some lighting (other than the fluorescent lights above the monitors) that still needs to go in, and I'm still deciding the best way to arrange my decorative items. I have a fairly large Final Fantasy memorabilia collection that I'm contemplating moving to the top shelf.

Hey awesome set up, Wint!

That's cool how you have your iPad mounted. You mentioned it was for easy working - what kind of work do you do?

I haven't had a 'cool' gaming set up around my computer for a long time :( It's been forever since I've had the time to game and now I really only have my laptop so my computer station is anywhere... bed, dining room table, chair, deck.... wherever.

A few years ago when I was captured by the wonders of FFXI I remember the point where I had to give up on my typical 'desk' set up (it had the WORST chair and I was too poor at the time to invest in a good one) to lay in my bed with a cordless keyboard and play the game from there.... It let me happily exp grind into uncomfortable hours of the night.

I'll keep an eye on this thread for sure to steal everyone's cool ideas :] I'm planning on wasting a good chunk of my time in XIV when it's released so I'll need to think about this kind of stuff all over again haha.

I play on a PC, at the foot of my short bed...with the tower inside a desk that probably adds 10 degrees celsius to it.

I'm a programmer. I have a lot of my technical manuals in epub format, so I can reference them on my iPad while working at the monitor.

Nice set up!

I'll scrounge up some of my before pics sometime soon, I also have shots of when I was finishing the wood used for my shelves.

I don't know why the embed never works, but it never does. . . .

Under the LH monitor you can JUUUUST make out the Asus G73 that's driving those two screens. On the wall to the left, you'll note the CoP poster from the Fan Fest in Buffalo NY about 4.5/5ish years ago.

First off, I love that Office setup of yours. I might have just have to steal an idea or two from that pic for my father. He's been nagging me to do something about his office. He's really could benefit from something similar (Architectural & Civil Engineering Instructor.) Maybe next Fathers day...

I spent the majority of FFXI behind a cheap Office Max Desk. FFXIV on the other hand will be joyed from my cave. I have finally got my little nook of the house where I am comfortable. Took be about a year and half get it there though. It's not the best stuff out there but it enough to put a smile on my face.

I use a full size hardwood futon as the base of operations (really need a foot rest, folding chair works only so well). I have a 38" Samsung B650 series mounted on a full motion mount (extends up to 24"), which is the only monitor for my comptuer. The computer being that mammoth black box to right of it. Also running a 5.1 setup through a Yamaha RX-V665 7.1 Receiver. Front speakers and center channel are simple Klipsch synergy series(next thing to get upgraded). The back are Klipsch Icon's (Bestbuy let me trade my discontinued synergy ones & gave me money back...Smiley: sly). The sub is a simple powered polk 12".

Picture #1
Picture #2
Picture #3

Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have my Window A/C unit installed. Slider A/C's are just way to **** expensive. Trying to brain storm a how I can cleanly fab up & install a standard one. I need it bad, the house evaporator cooler just can't cut it anymore with the heat all this junk puts out. Only get's worse after a rain...

I also thought about a little mini fridge. After I thought about it I decided against it. That would only give me one less reason to leave my cave.

Since it looks like I'm going to be playing on PS3, I'll be sitting in my easy chair, playing on my 32" HDTV. I bought a 2 meter USB cord so I can plug in my keyboard and play from the comfort of said chair.

Before you ask "why not a wireless keyboard?", I do a little PC repair on the side of my 40 hour a week job. People usually bring me their towers, and I use the USB keyboard so they don't have to provide me theirs. Also, I got used to playing on a keyboard after six years of FFXI.

I have the PC under my coffee table and the keyboard and screen on top of it. I can lay on the couch and play in comfort.
Buying a new PC, but haven't decided whether to get a huge monitor (which would mean going back to the computer desk) or connecting to the new 55" tv I bought (justified the purchase as I was going to play on PS3)
I'm guessing it will run well on tv via PC?

Gaming system monitor on the left (for gaming), with tower in the lower right. iMac on the right (for music, IM, and looking **** up without needing to alt-tab). Comfy chair, despite odd coloring (inherited two of them; one for this and one for my fiancee's computer (also not shown). TV (not shown) is to the left of the gaming system. My shelves full of PC (and some console) game boxes, PC part boxes, and my closet full of spare PC parts (including half a dozen towers of various age that aren't being used; no, I'm not joking) also not shown.

This was the only one readily available on my Photobucket. If anyone wants me to take em, I can snap some pics of my shelves lined with game boxes (and games), fiancee's computer, etc. No pictures available of my living room either, but again, if anyone asks, I'll snap some pics of my TVs, consoles, and 55 gallon aquarium (if desired).

**** I put my (plain old $100 from-staples) PC desk in the closet and felt all special because there's a shelf up there and I've covered the walls with cool stuff and organizer bins made form cut up soda bottles and I thought I was pretty spiffy, at least the closet light makes things nice and bright to avoid eye strain ^_^;; and I guess it was free =P

My hubby gets to have a dual monitor setup, I had one a while back with the TV but some glitch caused my graphics card to force the computer to sleep on start and be unwake-able and not display in 2 monitor mode. I called tech support and they had me turn sleep mode off and were like, there ya go that fixes the issue! And I was like, but now I can't sleep! and they were like... Nope.... >_> maybe that's been fixed by now...

Honestly, I'd like a better shot of the blue poster on your wall (Satanism, Capitalism, etc.) so I can read it.

Also, am I the only one who sees the irony of an air conditioner being right above your PC tower?

As for the air conditioner, it's -really- old and only works intermittently at best. The unit is manufactured by Chrysler; that should give you an idea of the age. That, and the fact that it has faux wood paneling. I've unplugged it and have an AC to the right of it in a window that actually -does- work. Can't get rid of the old one though, since the people who built the house built it into the wall. I mean, I guess I could take it out, but then I'd have a huge hole in my wall and would have to find something to fit in there. The newer AC to the right is too big, before you ask.

When I saw faux wood paneling I figured it exactly a working unit. Stick a little 6 can mini fridge in there...

Honestly it could be worse, you could have a desk like mine that's covered in ash from an overflowing ashtray or a small shrine to big tobacco like mine. One thing I noticed is that you seem to play Fallout 3, the question I have is do you play vanilla or do you go gung ho with the mods like I do?

I bought all the DLC (Technically, I bought the disks, I didn't download them) but I don't have any mods installed besides those.

Speaking from experience: laying in bed with a keyboard on your chest and a CRT monitor in your lap is less comfortable than it sounds. And it doesn't even sound very comfortable at all.

Have you tried putting the laptop on a pillow and putting a pillow on your legs? They also sell little things that are supposed to vent your laptop that you can put on your lap.

True story: Apple employees are NOT supposed to refer to their portable computers as "laptops"; they are required to refer to them as "notebooks" because some of them can get insanely hot and can very easily burn your legs. Apple's official stance on "If a customer calls saying they burned their legs on the bottom of a hot portable computer" is to emphasize the word "notebook" and instruct the customer that they should be on a flat surface at all times, and should never be held in the lap. No, I'm not making this up.

PC: I built for my tower a base that has caster wheels, so I can either play in the living room or my bedroom. In the living room, my system is centered around a recliner with a side table for drinks and mousepad with the monitor on a wooden chair in front of me. In my bedroom, my system is centered around my bed, with my mousepad on the tower itself and everything running to my receiver, surround sound setup, and TV.

I play my PC, 360, Wii and PS3 in front of my TV sitting on my bed in my bedroom...I can't stand sitting in front of a computer screen so this is the optimum way for me to do this.

Don't have my little gaming area perfected yet, but it's gettin' there. Right next to the kitchen, and yeah that's the middle piece of a couch sectional, just needs an ottoman or some other footrest...

Let's see... you've got three computers, a fan, an ice cold drink and your cellphone...all the comforts of home! What else could you possibly need?
