FFXIV Need a Timer/Clock?Follow

I played XI back in the day and thought it would be nice to make an app for WebOS (Pre/Pixi phones) that would have a timer/clock for XIV. Only problem is that I’m not sure if XIV would even benefit from such an app? As you probably all know, in XI, each day of the week affected what magic/mobs were weak or strong. There were also boats that departed at predictable times and RSE quests that had specific spawning times. There were 8 days in a week and 1 game day was 1/25 of a real world day so the game days were always rotating.

At this point, all I know about XIV is that there are six elements (Fire, Ice, Wind, Earth, Thunder and Water). Assuming they correspond to days of the week, are they dropping light and dark or will they be included as week days? I also read somewhere that 1 game day was going to equal 1 real world hour or 1/24 of a real world day. This would mean that with either 6 or 8 days of the week, that every day at “x” time would always be “y” day in the game since 24 is evenly divisible by 6 or 8. Because of this I find it hard to believe they would have the elements of the day effect mobs and magic since that would mean that a person who only can play at night would always run into the same “game” days of the week. So, if all that is true, the only thing a timer would be good for is boat/air ship schedules and maybe RSE stuff (assuming they have RSE gear).

So my question is simply, is there a need for a clock that would tell you the days of the week and stuff, or has SE negated the need for one? Also, anyone know what the game days of the week are, what order they are in and at what time/date a specific day start?

Unlike FFXI, the cycles of the moon and weather won’t have an effect on things. Instead, the 6 elements will affect a number of things.

Back in the early days of FFXIV news and I think a bit when they were talking about fishing recently they stressed that time will play just as big of a roll, if not more of a role in FFXIV.

I think anyone can make an app for it though, doesn't really have to connect to the server, just program in the schedule.

Eh, need for one or not, I'd still like to see a Droid app for it Smiley: smile

There actually are 8 elements. SE said at some point what they were, but I can't think of their names offhand. It's akin to light/dark.

Sadly, I don't have a smart phone. Still sounds like a pretty good idea.

Once the game is released, I might oblige you Smiley: nod Been working on Android development for a few weeks so far, much easier to get into than iPhone/Objective C.

Well then, we just need some more info to get started. I've made a couple apps on the Pre, never messed with Android, but I doubt it would be to difficult going from JS to Java.

Android isn't difficult, just bizarre how they have decided to set things up. Takes some getting used to.

I have one on the android market right now. It's called Eorzea Clock. It's simple because I don't have access to the beta right now, but it kept time, at least last time I checked. With my luck Square probably will change everything tomorrow and I'll have to do an emergency update. Anyway, check it out and let me know if it works.

Oh, and quick edit: if you're using a non-android phone, or just a browser, I have a web-based eorzea clock at http://zpym.com. That one is based on the time on my web server, while my android app is based on the time on your phone. The browser one is ugly right now, though, and I'm still playing around with it, so it might not work at any given point.

so do you have the days of the week included or just the time which is 24 hours in 1 real world hour? Without beta, how do know that it keeps time correctly? Is there a site you found that shows game time? I've been looking but have not found one.

I made it by watching a friend's account, and using a stopwatch. It's not quite 24 game hours per real hour. An Eorzea day is a little longer than an earth-hour as the game is right now. I didn't include days of the week because it wasn't displayed on the FFXIV interface yet (that I could see, anyway). It should be easy to put that in if square decides to implement it.

If it's needed, hopefully some one will make an SDK for the G15/19s (yes I feel the need to justify my overpriced keyboard purchases)

If I could get the algorithm for coming up with the in-game time, I could easily write a service for the G15.

Most of the apps for the 15 came out about 2 months after the keyboard for XI, I would assume that it would be about never for 19 apps on XIV :p Hoever people dat mine MMOs asap for bragging rights (or less often but more importantly for the community) and they do it very quick. I'd guess within 1 month there would be all the nessecary info for LCD applets.

Khorbin, can I ask what start date/time you are using and what milliseconds you came up with for each game day? I've been somewhat converting an FFXI timer... http://www.pyogenes.com/ffxi/timer/v2.html
