Accepted to Beta, but Can't Log Into Beta SiteFollow

Has anyone else had an issue actually getting started?

Monday the 12th, I received an email welcoming me to the beta test and instructions on how to get started. I've been trying to do so ever since.

I go to the site, attempt to log in with my SE login/password and the screen comes up saying the log in process is running then takes me back to the log in screen. I've been trying since the email said the site was available on the 13th.

I contacted SE through the support website the welcome email listed, and was told they don't support FFXIV issues but that I probably wasn't using the correct SE account or that I wasn't accepted into beta testing. I wrote back that I was accepted, that I only had one SE account and attached my welcome email hoping someone would actually look at it and possibly help me. I asked who I should be reaching out to if they couldn't help me.

The response was that I needed to log into the beta site and post on the forum there about my issue. Yes, the site I can't access. I wrote back explaining the logical absurdity of their response, and that I felt I wasn't being given any useful support. Their response was a stock answer thanking me for my feedback.

Sorry to rant, I'm pretty frustrated with SE right now.

Has anyone else had an issue like this? If so, have you gotten around it? I was excited to try the game, but right now I feel like cancelling my FFXI account and never given SE another dime.

Can you log into your SE account otherwise?

Try logging into here as well:

https://secure.square-enix.com/account/app/svc/login?cont=account

If you are able to log into the SE account management, double check under your services to see if the beta test shows. If it shows there try logging into the beta site with the same user name and password. Best of luck.

Don't forget that beta is for testing, not trying the game, so don't get too made about it. Being a guinea pig when the many game systems aren't in and it's far from optimized isn't all fun and games.

i had an issue similar to this when i first started the beta. whenever i would log in, as soon as i would click on anything else i would be logged out. this happened every time i used IE, so i switched to firefox and it seemed to fix the problem. try using firefox, or if that fails google chrome, and see if that works.

once you get in, there are some instructions to follow under "getting started" (i think) that detail what you need to do in order to access the beta. one of these is changing your randomly generated name by going up to the top right and under "my stuff" selecting "edit profile" and changing your user name. after you do that, you should be able to log in and download the beta.

oh, also, the beta testing model they are using is with scheduled times for testing, so if you manage to get to the point where you can download and run the client, dont be surprised when you cant log in. the servers arent slated to be up until about 7pm PDT tonight (tuesday).

I was using IE, but I just tried FireFox with adblock and no script turned off and got in. I can't believe I didn't think to try FireFox.

Thanks for the help, guys! I appreciate it.

very much not. they even mention that "certain users may experience troubles logging in by using a specific web browser" under one of their help topics on the beta forums. firefox works just fine for me, and for everyone else i know who's had to access the beta site. i assume google chrome would work, but IE is borked, in a very frustrating way.

I can't see a reason why you'd want to use IE in the first place.

Ignorance, laziness, complacency, or familiarity.

Either they don't know better, don't feel like taking the two minutes to download and install something better, haven't yet had any problems with IE that were major enough to convince them they need to change, or don't feel like "learning something new".

My father still runs IE on all of his systems for reasons #3 and #4.

Probably not, many corporations are still on IE6. I hear we are migrating to IE8 by October, come **** or high water. Glad I have admin rights to my computer (only developers get that), I've had Firefox since 2.0 Smiley: grin

Funny image explaining why web designers hate IE6:

I use to use IE because it was faster than firefox, and in order to make firefox safe you have to use adblock and noscript, which disable a lot of useful portions of common sites I visit, and it always seemed like a hassle to stop and configure the two plugins just right for the sites I wanted it to work flawlessly on. FFXIAH was my biggest complaint as I could never seem to get the sales list expand/shrink buttons to show up.

Also, being on a slightly older system at the time, firefox tended to slow down quite a bit once I had multiple tabs open.

Then I found the magic of Chrome.

It's zippy like IE, works with every website I've thrown at it w/ full functionality. No pesky 'minute tweaking' to do with every new first-time visit. It's also safer than IE.
My old P4 1gb ram winXP system can handle 7-10 tabs in Chrome like it does 1-4 in firefox. <3

p.s. little birdy making my ice cream says Chrome works for beta site

It's not that you "need to use them to make it safe", but using them makes browsing even safer. Just using Firefox without either is already safer than IE. Ditto for Chrome or Safari or pretty much anything else.

Also, there are settings to whitelist sites so that they don't affect those sites. But Chrome works if you're happy with it. As long as it ain't IE.

I've had similar problems, got the email as an accepted beta tester but haven't been able to play test. I can enter this site just fine (as I am registered): https://secure.square-enix.com/account/app.

But there is NO beta info of any kind there, just basic account info. When i go to https://dev-na.ffxiv.com/ I get this message:

You could not log in because the service account in question is not registered.

If you would like to log in to the service, please log in to the Square Enix Account Management System and register the service account.

I use Firefox and don't have adblock/script installed. I will try Chrome tonight.. anyone else getting that message?

p.s. lolSE support has not even responded to my emails.

I freaking hate IE, but there are still of lot of things that aren't compatible with other browsers. All of our work web apps for example. Oh sweet irony that something finally works in one of the good browsers and not IE for once.

I gave Chrome a good 2 week trial to see if I could be convinced to switch from Firefox, especially since they finally have add-ons and an adblocker. Then I tried to access my D-Link wireless router status/settings page and it simply wouldn't let me get in. Every time I put in the password would just keep refreshing and saying invalid. Switched back to Firefox ever since. If I can't even access my home router with Chrome, it's fail. Plus no No-Script is another reason. Firefox 4 is in beta is supposed to be significantly faster than 3.6. Haven't tried it yet myself since some of the add-ons haven't been updated for it yet. I do like Chrome a **** of a lot better than IE though.

I switched to Chrome for quite a while, but all of a sudden I started getting a bunch of application errors with it, and no matter what I tried, I couldn't resolve them. Back on good old Firefox now.

I switch my browsers quite often as for some reason each one seems to go through a phase of not working well. Once I get fed up with one I make another one my default...just recently I switched to chrome from opera. Before Opera I was safari, before safari I was chrome, before chrome I was firefox. I like the looks of chrome and opera the best but firefox seems to be compatible with most websites. Generally speaking I try to avoid firefox because it's rather ugly compared to the others but whenever I have an issue with a website I open up firefox and try it out and usually it works. This should be a common practice for everyone...some websites just work better with different browsers.

"Thread also violates NDA."

Hey SquareEnix can't address or solve their own support issues, so they send us to forums to figure out issues they should atleast have a Q&A for so... NDA lifted by executive Kobold order!
