Hardware Questions? Please use the stickyFollow

I know it's tempting to make a new thread for every different user with a hardware question. The sticky is very actively participated in by people who know what they're talking about, and I'm sure you've noticed if you lurk around these boards that there has been an explosion of about 15 new hardware threads per day, knocking more interesting threads off of the front page (and thus, into oblivion).

But I imagine this suggestion will prove fruitless; if people don't even read the sticky, doubt they'll read this!

Yeah, I feel you there. Well if anything, a barrage of "will my machine run this?" threads on any game forum is always a good sign that the game will be extremely popular.

I thought of making this thread, but knowing how people are, I figured it would have been useless anyway. =/

It's one of the symptoms of the veil of anonymity I think.

"As long as people don't know who I really am, I can a) act like a complete fool online, b) not use common sense, or c) ask the same question that's been asked ten bajillion times already."

As long as the internet remains anonymous, we'll continue to have flame threads, 14 year old "Cartman"s online breathing flames from their nostrils for no reason at all, and people not observing basic unwritten formalities like "read the thread that already exists before posting a new one."

It's why I was at least partially in favor of the whole RealID thing. If anonymity is gone, the anonymity portion falls out of the (G.I.F.T.), and maybe people start acting like normal people. The downside of course is that I don't want my name to pop up on Google in conjunction with Wienercraft.

Oh well.

Seconding this thread.

Also, pointing out the humor in creating a thread to tell people to not create threads. :)

Mikhalia: and FWIW, my posts are 95% helpful, informative, or funny.
Mikhalia: only 5% or less of my posts are utter crap.
Tyapex: 393 posts of utter crap...
Mikhalia: Sounds about right.

The irony was not lost on me. But if making one stops 5 or 10, then great.

Q: How many SE employees does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: None, it's working as intended.

That would end up in some sort of "Back to the Future"-esque infinite looping causing the space-time continuum to cave in on itself, forming a monstrous black hole the likes of which you can't even find in a seedy L.A. underbelly low budget adult film.
