Hey everyone,

Not long ago I posted that we were looking for our first XIV forum moderator and I received over 20 applications immediately. From that first batch I ended up choosing Osarion to be our first moderator. He will be spending the next couple of weeks in training and eventually we will officially change him to a moderator.

While Osarion is not yet technically a moderator, I'd like you all to congratulate and welcome him to the ZAM team. As we get closer to release and forum activity demands change, we'll probably bring on more people.

I was wondering who ended up getting chosen. Not bad...not bad. I mean, the savvy choice would have been me of course, but Osarion is adequate. I'd say he's about 5/6th the poster that I am, give or take.

Just kiddin'. Couldn't have gone to a more deserving poster. Congrats Osarion! :D

I don't get it...
A few weeks of training? Most real-life jobs don't require that much.
I mean, it's cool if he wants to help moderate an online forum, but like... seriously?? Did he just win the lottery or something?

There's more to being an admin than just moderating forums. I would imagine that part of the training covers not only what he's allowed and expected to do, but also what he's not allowed to do. How Pikko does it, along with being a mom and doing her bento stuff, I'll never know. I do appreciate her work, however.

Well, i'd imagine that moderating is a bit of a different beast than your average job. Most people do it part-time, and the hours are probably fairly random. I doubt it's 2 solid weeks of rigorous training, and more like a loosely structured training period.

I wouldn't say that it's hitting the lottery, but speaking as someone who already browses the forums like it's my job, it'd be nice to make it official, so to speak. Osarion already seems to have a genuine desire to help improve the community here, so its just like being given a greater capacity to do what you were already enjoying. That's a pretty good gig, IMHO.

Wow, someone actually rated him down? What an *******.

You -do- know that once he gets mod status, he'll be able to figure out who did it, right?

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

Congrats Osarion. I was a little surprised by the few weeks training that a moderator has to undergo, but then realized that the extra time spent is probably what sets ZAM apart from other FFXIV forums. Most notably the unethical practices that go on over at a competing FFXIV site that rhymes with "sore".
