So I honestly have not read much about the game. I want to keep it as fresh as possible. No need to get burned out reading up on everything!
Anyways, I was reading about these and don't quite get the full extent to the Guild Leve system.
On the FF XIV website, they mention they grant certain privileges based on what you get. It mentions "Guilds". In FF XIV are the linkshells now called guilds instead?
I just don't get how the whole system works. What is the purpose, besides allowing you to use Aetheryte?
Any info about it would be great, thanks.
Guilds are NPC "factions." The lore behind the guildleves is that each time you do a guildleve, you're carrying out a mission for one of these guilds. One of the possible rewards for doing a guildleve is to gain guild currency that might be used for... well, we don't really know yet, but I would assume equipment or special training.
Additionally, guild levels can reward gil and equipment directly.
Guilds have nothing to do with linkshells. No connection at all. Linkshells are purely a social tool. Guilds are made up of NPCs, not player characters.
To complicate things further S-E has also talked about Companies. Companies sound like they might work the way that Guilds work in other games. While you can belong to many linkshells and they might each serve a different purpose, a Company looks like it will be more of a permanent group with tangible perks and restrictions.
Maybe I'll go do some web research and make a comprehensive post, so this stuff is less confusing to people who haven't go to the official site. Edited, Jul 23rd 2010 5:39pm by KarlHungis
