Haha, people are getting so obsessed with benchmark scores...

After about 6000 it's just gravy. Nobody needs 100+fps to play an MMO...

Who even says this is an accurate benchmark... I don't think it was intended to count dual graphic cards at all so the scores are most likely super skewed for SLI/crossfire builds.

Sure, that triple GPU system is expensive, but it can also be used to heat your entire house!

Especially when, if i read correctly, FFXIV caps @ 30 FPS like FFXI before it.

I'm almost POSITIVE I read that a few weeks back. . .somewhere

Indeed it does.

Right, currently the game itself caps at 30 fps, while the char creation and the benchmark cap at 60. It's currently unknown whether the retail game's cap will be lifted to 60, although of course everyone is hoping for it.

:(

While I disagreed with it, I understood that the reason for the 30 FPS cap in XI was mostly "for people on 56k".

The thing I have to wonder now is, how many people own a PC capable of playing XIV who don't also have a broadband connection? Why the need for a 30 fps cap?

I get that in XI, the FPS cap was somewhat tied to character speed, but surely there must be ways to not do that?

You would think in the day and age in gaming, especially considering the high hardware requirements they'd allow it to go up to at least 60 fps.

Not to mention the fact that the benchmark does not use more then 1 video card. Also this is a much more trusted list of scores IMO since the screenshots are included for all the scores

The 30FPS hard cap is in place for NTSC displays. It has nothing to do with bandwidth.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know [if it's possible} how well the PS3 would score on the benchmark?

Kind of like 3D vision can not exceed 60 fps, but really what is the difference between 60 fps and 100 fps? I mean your not gonna get some advantage based on 60 vs 100. So I don't think they cap the fps for "fairness". I could be wrong I dunno, but just my opinion.

I'm betting 2500 - 3000 on low since it will only run in 780p. I'd assume they'd port it to at least default settings.

Well, it'd be capped for fairness if they tied a bunch of speed-related stuff to it like they did to FFXI, but that's just bad programming (was bad then... it's worse now).

With the hardware requirements and recommendations being as high as they are though, it'd be really disappointing to see them cripple the game like that

To me it doesn't matter one bit whether I get anywhere between 60-80 fps or 100-200 fps. It's quite difficult for the human eye to notice the difference between anything higher than 60 fps anyway. This is especially true for games where there are no fast-moving objects like most RPGs.

Yeah, I get 250-350 FPS in Minecraft sometimes but don't notice a difference.
