Turned 46 today, thank you for asking. I have a 4 year old boy (my Ninjanoob) that wears me out every day. He also keeps me young and we ride our Razor scooters together. First FF; Final Fantasy Adventure on Gameboy.

I'm 28 and I started playing FFXI when I was around 21 or 22 years old. Great times for my first MMO.

Anyways, it definitely seems the average age of FFXIV players will be in the mid to late twenties, which I guess you can attribute to many making the switch from their FFXI roots. That's at least the story for me.

I have an uncle (by marriage) who's a dentist. He's probably in his early to mid fifties at this point, and he's a hardcore Warcraft player. When I was visiting that part of the family (which I haven't seen in years), he comes into the house, politely says his hello's, grabs a stack of a cookies, a tall glass of chocolate milk and disappears upstairs. Hour or so later, I'm taking a tour of the house when I spot him posted up at his computer desk with a head set on, playing some Warcraft.

This is awesome because at 28, it's reassuring to know that I won't be the only guy playing some MMO's for at least another 20 years.

Right on!

28 here.

I thought I would be older than 70-80% of the people here...guess I was wrong.

The average age of gamers is increasing; more adults are playing. I'll take that as a good sign.

I'm 25, and the husband is 32. No kids, and we'll probably never get around to having any once this game comes out >_<. We're a gaming couple. we both played FFXI for about 6 months after launch but we're casual with the MMOs so we didn't get far before other console RPGS and such took us away.

Ha! Only when I find a good party. Am I right or am I right?

In this case, what really happens is my wife stumbles out of bed around 6:30~7:00, looks at the clock, looks at me, *sighs*, and then heads off to the shower to formulate the content and volume of verbal abuse that I shall recieve. Good times!

I feel you there. I once had a 22 hour long party, Six of us headed out to start killing. People left and were replaced starting about 8 hours in, from there someone left and needed to be replaced every 4-6 hours I'd say. 22 hours after starting, I was the last one of the original 6 and got a replacement for myself and went to bed. Logged out right where I stood.

8 hours later, I wake up, get back on FFXI; the party was still going (one new replacement while I was asleep) and the guy who replaced me had to go so I replaced him and jumped back in. Went on for 12 more hours and two more replacements before the party broke.

I totally feel you with the significant other getting up at 6:30-7:00 and sighing at you though. Happens to me all the time. She's a gamer herself though, so it's not like she doesn't understand, which is nice.

Yay! Congrats sir.

By now you should be used to giving-in to the whims of a woman. So you have good practice for a daughter! Daughters possess manipulative powers x2. Good luck!

Hilarious. I'm 40. Grew up playing the first Atari & Intellivision system and have video gamed ever since. My friends are like minded & easily take off days to a week to break in a new MMO together. Some of them are married or engaged like myself, so free time for us becomes that much more. So if my gal is watching Gossip-Girl, The Hills, or surfing for shoes, im generally free to kill Goobue's with extreme vengeance...

31, and married to a non-gamer... well we sorta got some interest in the Sims 3, otherwise anything pre-NES doesn't count as a game... cutscenes aren't games... XIV is going to be a hard sell in my house :p

There shouldn't be too many naive and immature kids in FFXIV :D

Exactly. I substitute video games for TV. I need to interact to be entertained! I come nowhere near the hours of game time that the average American spends watching TV. Get off your high-horse America - in this great country, we ALL waste our free time in the manner we see fit.

It is much easier to preach to the choir than to stare into the myriad faces of disapproval that I see whenever gaming is mentioned in public. [/rant]

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I will be 28 when I start playing. Not going to be able to play right at launch but my collectors edition should be waiting when I am home (I will be away for work for 6 months so won't start until February 2011). I played FFXI excessively when I was in university until I quit about 4.5 years ago. I miss playing the game and I have gotten in touch with my old linkshell recently and was surprised to find most of them will be continuing their adventures in FFXIV. Judging from the posts I've skimmed through it appears that the majority of players are in what I would deem the more mature category of mmo players with an average age between 25-35.

My aunt and uncle had a goat. I must warn you, if you haven't had a goat before... once it gets "in season", it will tend to ram into things. A lot. People, furniture, anything.

I'd be careful, one of those four may tear up your furniture and pee all over the place. And the other three are four legged animals.
