Gary and Kenzie over at GameBreaker.TV have started up a new video podcast called XIV (ex-eye-vee), which will cover everything Final Fantasy XIV. Click here to check out their premiere episode.

I'm glad XIV is getting this kind of attention but they could benefit from reading up on the game before they discuss it.

Indeed they're all over the place with their guesses. Their lack of knowledge about the game makes it difficult to listen to. Really annoying from my perspective, and I'm thinking that wouldn't help entice any new people to the game.

Trying to put myself in the shoes of someone who never played XI there and the podcast doesn't exactly scream "Oh god I gotta play that!" Quite the opposite...

That's cute...BUT IT'S WROOOOOONG!

I am not saying it's their fault, no one is expected to know all these things but if you spread a podcast please make sure you even have your official information correct and do some research.

Should get some people that know more about XI if you want to compare it. While you are at it, get someone that knows something about XIV too or is allowed to talk about it. She is all cute and stuff but hearing her say "I don't know, i have not played it" 100 times is not very informative. It sounds like they both did not even read the full class information on the official website. I guess having a podcast is cool enough to spread your drivel nowadays.

Just some corrections before i had to stop the podcast because i could not take it anymore.

1. Marauder is the new Warrior and not a Dark Knight. She has no idea what a Dark Knight is in XI.
2. Lancer is a mixture of the XI Dark Knight (absorb and sacrifice abilities) and Thief (hate transfer and debuffs)
3. Gardening in XI is about growing plants in pots in your Mog house to harvest all sorts of items not only crystals. From Rice to Elemental Ores. Growing has nothing to do with position.
4. Smithing in XI could make armor and weapons. This has been split into a Blacksmith (weapons) and Armorer (duh?).
5. There is a Goldsmith in XI. It's one of the most important and lucrative crafting classes.

She needed sneak oil as White Mage? Ever heard of the sneak spell? It's level 20.

The guy is a WoWtard and the girl played XI like years ago back before the Ranger gimp. Neither of them know what they're talking about when it comes to XI or XIV. The girl couldn't remember the word "Gardening," and said she had searched everywhere to try to remember it. The guy couldn't figure out what a Weaver was, and neither of them could pronounce... pretty much anything. Everything they say is also pretty much wrong. Would not listen again.

Side Note: The girl is not cute enough to be that giggly. It's annoying.

Am I the only one for whom the audio/video are out of sync?

EDIT: Also annoyed that they have no clue about XI.

EDIT2: That's cool that the chick had a 75WHM at least, but two years is all she played, and he seriously quit just because other people quit?

EDIT3: This guy says "like" more than a 14 year old girl.

EDIT4: Yeah, it's getting clearer and clearer that they have no clue what the **** they're "reporting on".

C'mon guys, I listened to the whole thing and yea it's clear they don't know a lot of basic stuff, but is it really THAT offensive?! Listen if you want to, don't if you don't. Simple.

I couldn't even finish watching the podcast, I found it that obnoxious! When they started talking about X class is the new Y class I had to just stop. That is what irritates me about the forums here, everyone trying to look at this game like FFXI-2. It's a whole new game with whole new concept on classes. Just accept that a Conjurer is a Conjurer and stop trying to make it the ******* child of previous FFXI jobs!

"Offensive" isn't the word, but I would think that "knowing basic stuff about it" should be a prerequisite for reporting on something. But then, TV news are guilty of that too sometimes as well.

I don't see people posting things like this when the typical response to something is positive. People are giving their opinions, and apparently, yes, some people do find it THAT offensive. I wasn't offended, per se, so much as I was bored.

Not offended. Irritated. Misinformation is irritating. Remember the Brady guide for FFXI? Good info in there, and some horrible advice as well. That kind of situation here I think.

I hadn't thought of it that way, but that's a pretty accurate description. It's kinda like listening to Michael on Burn Notice talking about getting around locks/safes/computers: It sounds really well and good, but if you know what he's talking about, you can have a field day with pointing out all the errors. I work in IT and my father has been a locksmith and safetech for years, so while we both love Burn Notice, we pick the **** out of their "How [not] to get around security"

And before anyone says "Well obviously they can't tell you the REAL way to do it or they'd get sued", you're right. I agree. Won't stop me from picking it apart though. I still love Burn Notice regardless. These guys are annoying as **** though.

This podcast was pitiful... I have read about everything they talked about here in the forums, its pointless to do such a thing without the NDA being lifted so you can really talk about the game not just speculate... and that girl makes me wonder if she ever even played XI lol I mean sneak oil for a WHM?! Get more experienced people if you are going to compare XIV to XI.

From the feedback it's gotten here I may avoid this podcast, but I do think it'd be great if the community here had two or three members who could put one together, especially if they are done live, that way people who don't know much about the game get to interact with the show and get their questions answered too. I experienced this with the ill-fated Stargate Worlds and the shows were highlights when there was little information coming out and lots of people coming in asking the same questions.

Mikhalia wrote:

Statements like this are one of the main things drawing me to XIV. I never played XI, but no MMO has ever hooked me for more than 2 months (in which time you can reach level cap and run out of content in most MMO's, and I've never been one to make multiple characters).

The Brady guide was much more useful. 90% of it was useful stuff that you couldn't get elsewhere. 10% was useless or harmful advice that you also couldn't get elsewhere!

This "podcast" is basically just a lot of yammering from people who don't know any thing.

I expect this is something to do with my work computer. We're on XP SP2 (even though it's end of life), and no OS upgrades are in the future at the moment. I can't really blame them, when you have 50,000+ workstations to upgrade, any change is a BIG change Smiley: laugh

Just because I can refute you I will, WHM need sneak oil in areas with magic aggro mobs!

But yes, overall the podcast would have been a lot better had they used a seasoned veteran rather then the woman who played for 2 years and quit long ago. Personally I had 200+ days gameplay, which is nowhere even near what some people are at, but I could pick apart most of what they talked about. Really it didn't anger me so much as make me wish I was in the interview to give a better point of view.

eew... IE6? Any reason your IT department isn't running 8, or at least 7? Browser incompatibility with intranet or something?

At any rate, no issues for me on Firefox.

It was only one post, and doing it on Firefox too. Oddly enough, it was a thread started by Elmer. The Manner Mode one. I'm on to you, buddy! Smiley: tongue

Just because I can refute you I will. I used to mine Ifrit's Cauldron on my 20 or 30-ish WHM. As long as you know which mobs you can cast near and which you can't, it's pretty easy to avoid magic aggro. Did I die? Sometimes. But usually it was because I had to take off invis to mine. For the most part, though, I didn't need oils and powders. Sometimes the convenience was worth the price, though.

Still watching/listening...

The second video breaks the sh*t out of the NDA unless they have permission from SE to be showing clips of beta gameplay and talking about it?

She's also louder than you are; you might wanna raise your volume or reduce hers. I keep trying to turn you up and then she talks and I have to turn it down, up and down... etc :)

Anyone who listens to a FFXIV podcast already knows about everything that they say. It is not the news. The purpose is to listen to other people's opinions.
