Didn't know if anyone would see this at the bottom of that thread, so I wanted to post it here.

I just got my new pc in, couldn't get the benchmark to run at all. It kept crashing, same random error. Long story short: Benchmark thread helped me solve the problem b/c a few kind posts directed me to the Direct X update I needed from Microsoft.

It's really nice to have a helpful online gaming community.

Always nice to know that the ZAM community is here for help.

ZAM has been the only community i've ever felt comfortable asking n00b questions and getting honest responses. Yes, there are some jerks (just like everywhere else), there are some de-railing smart-a$$es (which i find hilarious), but by and large, this community is awesome.

I second this! New PC arrived last night. I would never have bought the right rig without all the great help of the ZAM forum techs.

I'll run the benchmark and post here ASAP. Right now I'm using the Nvidia GTS 250 that came with my PC so we'll see how that holds up before I upgrade.

ZAM is the awesome!

6,100 on high setting. /flex. : /

Maybe I don't quite understand how the thing is supposed to work, but I also scored around 6,000 on low settings. The simpleton in me says I should score much higher on low settings than high settings.

It's because:

1. 720p benchmark relies mostly on your CPU.
2. 1080p benchmark relies mostly on your GPU.

If you have a powerful CPU and a medium GPU, you will score much higher on low than high.

If you have a powerful GPU and a medium CPU, your high score will start catching up to your low score.

1. Not sure which () you're referring to.

2. If I'm not mistaken, when enough of your posts are rated up, you will receive scholar status and your name turns yellow. This indicates that said person usually has decent things to say. When a scholar gets rated up enough, he receives the sage status and his name turns red. His posts start off with "Good" karma instead of just "Decent." This means that said person usually has good things to say.

A rule of thumb is that usually the things that red names say are reliable and good. But obviously not always.

The number in the () denotes the Number of post that have been added since you last veiwed the thread. Example: 37(4) means 37 posts and 4 are new.

Sage is green, Guru is red.

Hope this helps.

I'd like to extend a thank you as well to the people who advised me (Mikhalia in particular, http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/ helped tremendously).

I got my new laptop in yesterday afternoon. Runs the benchmark on low at a smooth 60 fps with the full gambit of background applications running (scores about a ~3300), which is exactly what I wanted to get out of a laptop. If I ever get around to playing FFXIV, I'll be doing just fine. :P

Build the rig yesterday and installing/updating stuff at the moment.

I am having the Direct X issue and working on it right now.

Thanks for your patience with me guys, I know I asked as much questions as I have total posts (well almost).

Mik and Threx, you're the best !

It depends on your forum setting.

ffxi.alla = Guru Green, Sage Red, Scholar Yellow
ffxiv.alla = Guru Red, Sage Green, Scholar Blue

Any forum is viewable on any prefix, the prefix just affects the look of the page and colors. It can cause issues if you're trying to be ninja and put in text to match the background color since you can't predict what page people are viewing it on.

Ah, I see.

I never read the forums using ffxiv. The bright color is kinda annoying when I've been used to blue for years.
