Well... okay, perhaps not.

I've looked back a few pages and can't use search so forgive me if this has been asked before. Looking online elsewhere also doesn't reveal much either.

So in FFXIV we can choose the race, fair enough. Besides the look, do you think there will be any adverse effect of choosing one sub-race compared to another? I say his because there seems to be general dislike between each sub-race, the Elezen hate each other for instance. But does that mean they'll be able to PT together effectively or at all?

I imagine yes as I've not heard of there being such restrictions but it's confusing compared to the descriptions.

Comments?

edit: spelling

Up to this point the devs have stated they plan to have no stats differences between races. That could change of course, but currently the only reason to choose one race vs another is aesthetics.

I would be very surprised if there were any kind of negative effect upon grouping with any particular race, sub-race, job, or anything. The "tension" between the different cultures will probably be for story-telling only.

They keep talking about creating a community. I don't see them including something that'll promote seperation.

Now, there are talks about chosing a city that better fits with your race and what effects, if any, that might have. I don't think race will effect anything gamewise.

I just really hope that if starting in a given city provides any benefits to you, they TELL YOU ABOUT IT UP FRONT.

One thing I disliked about XI was hidden stats; beyond not mentioning the free starter ring if you picked the "correct" city, there was a handful of gear that had stats that weren't advertised.

Now at least gear I can work with, but it's a giant pain in the *** to spend half an hour making a character only to find out that I picked the wrong deity or the wrong starting city, 3-5 hours into my playtime.

Hahaha, oh god - my atheistic ribs cackle at this line. If only there were some benefit in real life to being a certain race in a certain place.... oh wait - ****!

This is probably my main concern about starting the game. I'll be really mad if I choose a race, city and a god, and later find out that I picked the wrong one and I'm missing out on certain stats or benefits.

I'm hoping that even if the benefits help early out, that later on they don't really mean as much (like the ring in FFXI). Ultimately I just pick what I want, and I'm not really concerned with making sure I do things the "right way". It's my char, I'll play as I like Smiley: nod

I leveled every job to 37, so that San d'Orian Ring (and later, Windurstian ring for the other finger) got a lot of use from 1-13 times 18 jobs.

Can't agree more. Unless I dicover the three starting bonuses prior to release, I'm going to spend at least an hour creating characters in each city to see what happens.

It would be much better if that info was in-game before you make the decision. Considering how little I want to know at release, it's odd that in this one case I would like to see some leaked info (rather than spend valuable Day 1 playtime remaking characters.)

I really loved the +1 Dex ring from Bastok. *sigh*

On second thought, I may just choose Limsa Lominsa and get to the action!

It would be the worst idea if one sub-race party with any particular sub-race would receive any negative effect or restriction. Imagine if we desperately need a tank, and when we finally found one, it happened that his race and the healer's race is against each other, so now a negative effect would apply, maybe the healing effect on the tank would decrease, then what should we do?

of course it would suck, if that happens, it will take 3days to form a 3man party

Sorry, our PCs will be too busy playing and due to the resource requirement of FFXIV we will be unable to multitask to post.
I wish we could help you...
