Are you starting at release, or later?Follow

I had planned on getting the game right away, have been building a $1200 computer with the help of everyone here, and was getting everything ready to settle in and play at release.

And then a few days ago I realized I need to buy a car. I'm still working out a new contract with my current place of work, and my hours are changing and increasing, and buses will no longer work. Unless I want to eat dinner at 8 pm with lunch at 11:30 am. I got a call from the headmaster and I'm going in on the 10th to settle my new contract (hopefully... am a little scared they'll fire me as I said to them I wanted a raise, holidays, and benefits if I was going to accept the second position on top of my current). We're also saving for a house and hopefully buying in the spring, so it sounds like I may not be able to start FFXIV for a few months. November/December at the earliest, I would say.

I'm incredibly disappointed right now, but I also realize that I'll probably have a better time if I start after all the little bugs and hitches were worked out. I played WoW through the beta and release and have experienced that, played FFXI for the NA release, so I'm not missing that. Not to say I'm not going to miss the feeling of playing something right at release, I wanted to do that again desperately. But right now, with from what I've read (without breaking the NDA here), you can only do some things once every couple days, as well as the lack of an AH, I think I might be happier to come into a game that's listened to the player base a bit more and had time to implement things.

So, we'll pretend I can make a poll.

Are you:
- Playing at release for the experience?
- Playing at release because you always do?
- Waiting to start due to circumstances? (Money/Family/Work/PS3 included)
- Waiting to start so things are settled?
- Other, will detail below.

Starting later, both PS3 version & family (wife) reasons.

@ Release(Assuming I quit stalling on getting that new computer)
I've never been part of the madness that is a mmo release so that should be fun...
I was forever playing catch-up in XI, starting late in December of 05 so I always thought "It would've been sweet to be there from the start."

I'll be starting at Collector's Edition release, because I really want to play this game. =) Never quite started at release for a game either, so I guess experiencing that will be part of the equation as well.

I will be starting later but buying the collectors edition ahead of time. I want to make sure my friends and former WoW mates are all going to the same server, you know how hard that can be to arrange. Plus with the mass torrid of updates and patches expected the first few days IMO not worth the hassle.

I'll be starting with the PS3 release. I wanted terribly to start with the rest of the world, but sadly a new PC the way I want it is simply not in my budget at the moment.

OP, good luck with your stuff going on at work! I hope you get what you're looking for.

I will be starting at release of CE, although I need to go reserve a copy of it at my local gamestop. As someone else mentioned, I never played at the US release for FFXI and certainly want to get my foothold on FFXIV.

I want to get my crafts up quick and get a good feeling on the market as quick as possible - I think that will be key to success in this game. I don't want to wait for PS3 release to do that, and even though I just bought a laptop in december, I just purchased my new desktop yesterday.

Cheers!

Since I stumbled across FFXI late in the game, I am definitely excited to be starting at release with the CE. I spent so much time playing catch up in XI and it drove me crazy. I still remember partying in the dunes for the first time as a WAR and people kept yelling at me to "voke" and I was like, "Why?! I don't want that thing hitting me! I might die!" I want to play fresh when I am not the only noob trying to figure things out.

That reminds me of a tank we had back in Anarchy Online. As soon as he reached 60% life during a fight, he would break from the fight and try to run back to town to hit the save XP terminal. We actually had two healers on the team but we never was able to get his reasoning.

Starting at release-- basically shelling out the $1200 just to get that feeling of being a pioneer. I was a beta tester in XI, and it was a truly awesome experience being one of the first to try many things out; I'm hoping to replicate that, at least to a similar extent, by beginning as early as possible in the retail version (I've basically abandoned all hope of getting selected for the Beta).

Starting at the CE release. I've never started any MMO I've played at release so I'm really excited. The day I heard this game announced I told myself I'm going to be playing that game on day one, and now I have my CE pre-ordered and am playing the waiting game. The release fell at a great time too, my birthday is the 18th of Sept. so my CE is a birthday present from my wife, happy birthday to me!

I will be returning home from deployment a few weeks after release, so I will be joining in shortly after release. Hopefully whatever problems they are bound tho have right on release are patched by the time I start up.

I'll be staring at CE launch. I'll probably not have much of a social life. I have a feeling school will be very time demanding, so I'm not sure if I should go ahead and start my free month when I first get the game and only be able to play on weekends, or start it after I've finished my year of school and play after work. hhmmmmm.

I'm starting the 22nd I've never started any game when it first came out so I'll be looking forward to starting everyone else does. Unlike FFXI when I come in and relize the JP have already been there for like a year before me.

Greatly depends on when I get my computer and theres is no suprises in store. Still havent decided to get a monitor or just get the tower and hook it up to my LCHD TV. Doubt sound will play through it so I'm going to have to get some speakers too. Might start the 23, might take a day just to shuffle through all the different character creators.

I had originally planned to play on the 22nd. That was until I decided to go back to college. Considering my play time in FFXI, I don't think I'll be much more than a casual player. My PC wasn't up to the challenge either so I'll just wait for the PS3 release. So my plans are to start at the PS3 launch, not sure if you count that as after the official release or not. I also have some expenses like purchasing a new car for the winter.

I already pre-ordered the CE with release date delivery :)

As for the "I want an unfair advantage" crap, I wouldn't care if they wiped out the CE characters and started everyone fresh on the 30th. I just really want to play this game as soon as I can haha

EDIT: To continue with the "how crazy I'm willing to take this" craziness, I'm calling in one of my many favors to have the game signed for and installed while I'm at work so it'll be ready by the time I'm home from work.

Release day, i pre-orded the CE off of Amazon the day it went up with release day shipping, which i kinda wish i would have went to a gamestop instead now as UPS usually doesnt arrive until 4-5pm here. Oh well, im sure the servers wont be too stable on the first day anyways so a few hours wont hurt. I'm marking days off the calendar!

If you got it from Game Stop, you can upgrade to the CE from the SE. Your $5 will be applied to it, but you will have to pay another $5 because for the new price ($75) they require a minimum deposit of $10.

I am ordering from EB Games, I have never ever seen a gamestop. I will check with them next week sometime. I am greatly tempted to do this - if only so I can load up the game halfway through the pre-play period to avoid the mad rush on the 22nd

Starting at CE release, I've only played one other MMO within it's first week, and it was fun being a "pioneer" of sorts, figuring out how things work, rather than just comming in and following the general consensus. Though, I really want the Goggles, so I'll likely treat my 8 day character as a "test run" and reroll so I can get the goggles on my main.

Funny how that works, I've always been completely against buying the Collectors or Special editions of games. Going so far as to calling friends idiots for buying certain ones themselves. "How can ya get duped into paying even more money for that crap?!" Then when I saw the CE for FFXIV I immediately went against my principles and had to have it. I'm such a hypocrite...

It sounds very elitist, but I'm starting with the CE because 5 years from now I want to scold n00bs and be all like, "Back in 2010 I would solo all my Guildleves!" and "Pug/Lancer was a great combo before they nerfed it!"

Well, that and because I really am looking forward to this game.

I may not take a day off work though, that I haven't decided.

Starting in March at PS3 release. I originally planned on playing on my PS3 and those intentions haven't changed. I briefly considered switching over to the PC after an upgrade, but quickly changed my mind. I have a kid, a mortgage, wife and car payments. Not that I can't afford a new PC system, but it definitely isn't at the top of my to do list. ANy how, six months isn't too long of a wait, and I'm not interested in shelling out a cool grand for the novelty of saying I started at release. Hopefully my lust for FFXIV won't fade in the mean time.

See you guys in March!

I will be playing on Wednesday the 22nd and I am taking my vacation the following week. Although it is true that the later you start the "easier" it will be, we will already have a blueprint of what to do from the open beta. It's not like people who start day one will be standing around looking for something to do.

I'll be playing at launch with the CE version. I missed the FFXI launch by a long while, since I had been out of the gaming loop for a bit at the time. Found out about it through a friend during the CoP days on the PS2, picked up a copy, and loved it. I definitely want to try an MMO at launch, and I can't think of a better MMO to do that with then FFXIV. :)

The first game I ever played was FF1, and I started it right at the same time as I was learning to read... So seeing all those classes in FFXI definitely had a strong nostalgia feeling for me, and I will miss that... But the new style is already growing on me, and I can't wait to play this game. :)

Anyways, GL with everything OP. At the end of the day, even the sweetest of games is still just a game, and real life will always come first. But I hope you sort everything out and are able to fit in some FFXIV too. :3

ordered my CE from Best Buy a few days ago for the midnight release they will have for it. i didnt see any advatage ordering it from anywhere else so i chose the store that was literally right across the street from me. my computer is about a year old so while my computer isnt top of the line now it still makes the requirements. i am also a full time student with about 2.5 years left for my undergrad.

after 5 years and 2 deployments in the military it is nice to get out and enjoy the little things in life for a few years. im so happy i can enjoy the launch of this game. i was there for both wow and lotro, but have never played ff11. its great i can come in and enjoy the launch with square this time around.

I'm going to play the game when I can afford to build a machine that's capable of playing it decently. I still plan on pre-ordering the collector's edition though. In the mean time I have a shrine set up to display the box until I'm able to play. I plan to kneel before it every day. I'll even get my friends and family to pay their respects. There will of course be a collection plate at the base of the altar.
