I had planned on getting the game right away, have been building a $1200 computer with the help of everyone here, and was getting everything ready to settle in and play at release.
And then a few days ago I realized I need to buy a car. I'm still working out a new contract with my current place of work, and my hours are changing and increasing, and buses will no longer work. Unless I want to eat dinner at 8 pm with lunch at 11:30 am. I got a call from the headmaster and I'm going in on the 10th to settle my new contract (hopefully... am a little scared they'll fire me as I said to them I wanted a raise, holidays, and benefits if I was going to accept the second position on top of my current). We're also saving for a house and hopefully buying in the spring, so it sounds like I may not be able to start FFXIV for a few months. November/December at the earliest, I would say.
I'm incredibly disappointed right now, but I also realize that I'll probably have a better time if I start after all the little bugs and hitches were worked out. I played WoW through the beta and release and have experienced that, played FFXI for the NA release, so I'm not missing that. Not to say I'm not going to miss the feeling of playing something right at release, I wanted to do that again desperately. But right now, with from what I've read (without breaking the NDA here), you can only do some things once every couple days, as well as the lack of an AH, I think I might be happier to come into a game that's listened to the player base a bit more and had time to implement things.
So, we'll pretend I can make a poll.
- Playing at release for the experience?
- Playing at release because you always do?
- Waiting to start due to circumstances? (Money/Family/Work/PS3 included)
- Waiting to start so things are settled?
- Other, will detail below.
