I am curious about what SE will do with NA EU and JP, will we all be combined like in XI or will they all be split up and whatnot? Please post links if you have any official info on this. Thanks!

God I hope we're all mixed together again. I may not have made a lot of japanese friends, but the ones I did have were just awesome people.

This. Of all the MMO's I ever played, FFXI was my favorite for a few things, and mixed servers was one. I always hated regionally seperated servers... I get on late, after a night at the bar, and no one is one. In FFXI, there were always people on, even if you didn't speak their language. So I guess the big thing would be, "Is there an Auto Translator in FFXIV?" cause that was what you had to master to be sociable with the other side of the world.

I can't count how many times when I struggled to get a group for DRK, my first main. I'd barely get invites ever during my peak time, but late night, I'd get the random tell in kanji. Let me tell you, I never felt more proud, than when I got a verbal pat on the back from my JP counterparts. Though, often held in contempt, many players regarded JP players as "elite" and revered the "JP Button". To be in a party and read "(Job Here) <Impossible to Gauge>" along with their weird smilies and such, made my day.

I look forward to meeting my JP brethren on equal footing this time around. Lets see if they were "Elite" or if having that year+ headstart didn't factor in at all!

Been stated by SE. Servers will be mixed with both regions and platforms.

How does the mixed servers work? In terms of latency and language. Wouldn't say, the servers being located in Japan be unfair on the players in Europe, due to the delay in information transfering?

Very slightly, yes.

Basically all PS3 and PC players from all over the globe play on the same servers. There are no Japanese or European or North American servers.

In XI, the game had a handy auto-translate feature. It worked well enough to communicate the basics to people from other countries.

Yay. Mixed servers are coming back! :)

I have to admit, I loved that aspect of FFXI. It just made things more interesting with such a diverse community. Culturally and linguistically diverse I mean... It was rather nice excluding those really immature players...

Since I quit FFXI I've mainly gamed on the 360, and lemme' tell ya'... That XBL community definitely leaves something to be desired... One of the things I've been looking forward to about FFXIV the most is an online game where people don't shout racist and vulgar things constantly. But I guess that's a wee bit off topic lol... :P

I do hope the auto-translator makes a comeback as well. I had a lot of fun playing with people from around the world... Hopefully that new solo friendly twist doesn't deter people from partying with people of another language... :x

Indeed, there's so much anger in those kids sometimes. I think it's really awesome that I can join 11 other players for a game of hockey. That's pretty **** cool we've come that far with video games. Then some people get so serious and angry it just totally kills the fun. "We're not trying out for the NHL here psycho, we're just playing a video game!"

Assuming servers are in japan, though I do not recall any latency issues ever with XI in regards to the server location. Also worth mentions is that due to lack of PvP any "slight advantage" effectively adds up to nothing as no one cares

I'm almost positive they were, yeah.

Also, I hope to see the return of auto-translate as well.

Well that "slight advantage" actually did make some of us care... in terms of NM and HNM hunting. NMs popped less than a second (about half a second) ahead of time for JPs when compared to NA (from an actual SE article confronting the issue that i read a looong time ago). If you were ever hunting a NM and saw it pop blue(? been too long, i believe a blue name was a claimed mob? well either way, you get my point), it wasnt because of lag on your side, but rather latency due to server distance. This really isnt/wasnt much of an issue given half a second is much of a difference but when you factor in RMT guys hunting NMs who usually used scripts to claim, this was an issue.

They've already stated that there will be mixed servers like FFXI.
