God I hope we're all mixed together again. I may not have made a lot of japanese friends, but the ones I did have were just awesome people.
This. Of all the MMO's I ever played, FFXI was my favorite for a few things, and mixed servers was one. I always hated regionally seperated servers... I get on late, after a night at the bar, and no one is one. In FFXI, there were always people on, even if you didn't speak their language. So I guess the big thing would be, "Is there an Auto Translator in FFXIV?" cause that was what you had to master to be sociable with the other side of the world.
I can't count how many times when I struggled to get a group for DRK, my first main. I'd barely get invites ever during my peak time, but late night, I'd get the random tell in kanji. Let me tell you, I never felt more proud, than when I got a verbal pat on the back from my JP counterparts. Though, often held in contempt, many players regarded JP players as "elite" and revered the "JP Button". To be in a party and read "(Job Here) <Impossible to Gauge>" along with their weird smilies and such, made my day.
I look forward to meeting my JP brethren on equal footing this time around. Lets see if they were "Elite" or if having that year+ headstart didn't factor in at all!
