I've always played and been lured by ninja type jobs... Fast katanas, throwing stars, fast consistent hits, looks etc. It's really disappointing to me to not see anything remotely close to a ninja class thus far... WHY!? :(

Because they'll need to sell expansions?

Exactly this. They can't have all of the classes available up front or else they would have nothing to add when they do an expansion.

I'm really starting to doubt there will be any FFXI classes or even any standard fantasy RPG archetypes appearing in this game. They'll probably split it up to avoid a straight Ninja archetype, giving dual-wield to one class and tools to another. Here's hoping for Courtesan and Sailor.

Yeah, something like a ninja will be available in an expansion I'm sure. The characters are already based around Final Fantasy Tactics and there were ninjas there.

Right now pugilist will have to do, and its skills and stuff closely resemble that of a ninja, regardless we'll just have to wait.

Just to further derail the subject...

While walking through Philadelphia the other day I saw a homeless guy with a very interesting cardboard sign explaining to the world why he needed money:

"Ninja's stole my parents... Need money for karate lessons"

Gave him a 5-er.

I have a (very speculative) opinion that the first expansion will detail the Garlean Empire, so if we see any references to classes within the original game that come from the empire, you can bet we will one day be able to play those. Could be completely wrong, but who knows?! For sure though, expect at least 3 new classes in the first expansion, if not sooner.

The very first FF I played was for the 8-bit NES...
All those classes were basic Fighter, Theif, Blm, Whm, and the Rdm was, but after time the evolved (as if they grew up).

Fighter became Warrior
Thief became Black-Belt
blm became Wizard
Whm became cleric
Rdm became?

I wouldn't be surprised if instead of gaining "new" classes jobs evolved into new classes...

Oh and I wouldn't mind a cameo by Garland, I'd like to ***** slap him for old time sake^^

Haha... thanks for fixing my pre-coffee memory...

In FFXI, I had a friend go Blm/Whm and Whm/Blm, and quested the ninja class. There was no synergy to it..

Evolving classes would be more interesting.

Advance Gladiator and Pugilist to a certian level and train for ninja or something like that...

I wouldn't be surprised if Pugilist evolved into Ninja. Are we forgetting that many Ninjas used claws as weapons? That picture of a pugilist is amazing. I hope thats how lots of the gear looks, instead of the mostly rehashed, same model, stuff we saw in FFXI.

Point proven. 8)

Also...that sort of looks like a male miqo'te. Perhaps there's hope for getting around the female look after all!

Yeah the pic on the official FFXIV page made we switch from starting out a lancer to now wanting to be a pugilist.

Plus the more I learned about the stats and skills of a Pug, the more it fell in line with a character I'd want to play.

What's next? Where's my geomancer?
As said before, they'll need to have expansions, ... can't get everything all at once now...
Then there would be no mass speculation about any aspect of the game whatsoever, which would make this board obsolete. And we wouldn't want that now would we!

Considering that FFXI didnt get ninja until the "Rise to Zilart" expansion pack came out, theres no need to panic yet about getting ninja. However with what I've seen of the classes so far, it won't be like FFXI ninja, it'll probably be some kind of samurai, ninja, thief, ranger since they've combined alot of former classes.

If they add a ninja like class in FFXIV, my only hope is that they don't give it some thing like Utsusemi and dual wield. We don't need eight more years of "Y U NOT SUB /NIN?"

That was the great thing about FFXI... you were neither forced to PvP, nor were they any real rewards for participating in PvP. It was purely optional.

Anyway, I don't know about you but I like having options, and if they really did say there would be no PVP I'd like to see what they said.
