Confirmation on Pre-order BonusesFollow

Hey all,

I just wanted to pass along 100% confirmation on what we've been guessing about the pre-order items. Game Stop's intranet site was updated, and it appears that the codes for the items will be included Inside the Box, meaning that you can only get one or the other, not both.

I know this was pretty much determined by various interviews, but I wanted to pass along 100% confirmation from a Game Stop employee that this is how it will work.

At least now we can just toss people this link when they create new topics asking about it.

Thank You for this.

What I am really wondering, is Why in the world does the PS3 Version not get anything cool? Not even a collectors edition? Or goggles?

Considering it is not going to be released until March 2011, I don't think we can say that with any certainty, and I would be surprised if they didn't have something special as well.

Yeah, with its delayed release, there's no way to say what will come with the ps3 edition. Personally (and i know this sounds a bit crazy), I wouldn't be surprised to see a major content patch on ps3 release day, adding new classes (Like the rumored musketeer and Arcanist), so that way PS3 owners at least get some sort of same-day access.

I have been wondering, is it possible to get both items by pre-ordering both versions? If I have to choose I want the CE simply because of all the packed goodies that come with it. But the goggles are hawt and the SE version is fairly priced. So, if it were indeed possible to obtain both items by pre-ordering the SE AND CE versions I would do it.

Yeah, they are codes that you will have to redeem with square enix, so I'd assume you could have both if you bought both editions.

You can order both, but only the characters you make after inputting the codes will get the bonus item.So if you're planning on getting the CE, and playing 8 days earlier, you will have to make a second character to get the goggles.

The S-E home page for FFXIV talks about it in the disclaimer for the pre order items. The same source by which we already knew that you didn't get both items with a CE pre order.

There's nothing on the game info page that states you can't use the codes from both sets. Any character created before the code for the goggles is entered, however, would still not get the goggles. For example, I have already entered my code for the asuran armbands. When I get my CE I'll put the code for the onion helm into my SE account, before I create a character. When I get in game I will have both items. If I waited until I had the goggles code, I could add that and create a character and have all three items. FYI, I can't afford this last option.

They were mentioning that the site says you'll need to create your character after inputting the codes. So while it doesn't say you can't have both, it would be pretty silly to get your CE, input the code, install the game, then not play for 8 days until you get your SE for the goggles code. Could anyone resist that long? Or delete your character when the SE comes out and start over. Someone wanting both that badly could pull it off, but I'd have to wonder why...

Edit
Yeah I can see that making sense for some people already set on having multiple characters or those with special circumstances. Maybe someone wants the CE, but won't be able to play for a while so they want the SE and the goggles too.

I totally agree, but if I was to do this, I'd probably plan on having 2 accounts, so I could play a little during those 8 days, just to familiarize myself.

I have both copies of the game preordered, and will likely use both codes. Being able to start the game 8 days early IS a bonus, but how far will we be from those who start later with the SE version? I'm a FFXI vet, and I know what a commitment a character is. I also know in the grand scheme of things, other than a few levels, and friends, what will I have that I can't easily replace soon after I reroll my character?

I'll play for the 8 days, then get the other code. I just really wanted the goggles for looks. Besides, they were made to help skill up faster, so along with my 9 days experience, I'll level even faster than the first time.
