I am thinking about ordering the collectors addition, which comes with a security fob. In FFXI, when you have a fob, you get the extra storage, Moggie blackhole or whatever the name was. I am assuming that the fob will work for both games, and was wondering if I would get still get the extra storage in 11. Thanks in advance for any replies.

There's been nothing to indiicate any "extra" benefit of having the fob in FFXIV. I think not getting hacked is a pretty useful benefit though. Also as far as I know the "old" security token is supposed to work with FFXIV.

I'm assuming that the FFXIV one will count towards XI, since you're just registering it with your SE account which would apply to both games.

You log into FFXIV using your SE Account. That's the account that is registered to any security token you may have. It will work with both XI and XIV accounts.

I'll probably be using my XI one for XIV so I'm gonna have a spare and nothing to do with it :/

Maybe if you have a friend that bought the standard edition you could give it to them?

How long have you had yours? If you got it when they first came out like I did, I'd seriously think about using the XIV token over your XI one. Those things have a limited battery life, after all.

I got it when they first came out, but it still works fine. Since the token is linked to the SE account, I don't think I could switch to the new one outright though; I'd probably have to call them to get it switched, wouldn't I?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, I say.

Plus, and I'm not even joking about this, I would be worried about S-E banning you for switching security tokens, since that could be interpreted as "RMT like activity." Look at the number of people who got banned when they switched credit cards on their FFXI accounts.

You might be able to just sell the security token on ebay, or keep it around "just in case." The batteries in the security tokens last a long time, but in a perfect world you'll still be playing FFXIV in five years or more.
