What will your first character in Eorzea be and what nation-state will you start in? Why?

Race: Highland Hyur
Class: Thaumaturge
City: Gridania or Ul'dah

I prefer casters over close combat classes in any MMO (or game rather) and Thaumaturge seems like it has a really unique play style. I will be choosing Highland Hyur mainly because I want to try and be unique, but I enjoy the feeling of normalcy at the same time. Highland Hyur gives me that option. Finally, I am leaning more towards Gridania because I really loved Windurst in XI and I am excited to see what the dev team comes up with for the "forest town." However, Ul'dah's description and concept art is incredible.

Race: Lalafell because I love small characters, I was a tarutaru in FFXI and will for sure be a Lalafell in FFXIV now as far as plainsfolk vs dunesfolk I think that will depend on how you can make each on look. I am however leaning towards dunesfolk cause I really like them visually and how they fit into the world. As far as Class, Mage all the way. I will try both Conjurer and Thaumaturge. Honestly I plan to level both, and all other classes, with the interesting system SE has created.

Nation-state: When I first saw Gridania I fell in love with it, probably because of my history with Windurst and my love of the raw power of the elements. I was a summoner in FFXI and I hope to wield the same elemental powers (though hopefully w/o all the issues that SMN had) in the new mage classes. That being said however, I love the dark shady side that Ul'dah brings to the world and I know I may be tempted to sway to evil at the last moment.

I have decide to start in the land of Eorzea as:

Race: Hyur
Gender: Female
Tribe: Midlanders
Class: Conjurer
City: Gridania

Reason for charcter choice:
i pick hyur/female/conjurer because my FFXI charcter is hume F. Conjurer because i really love element based magic :D

Reason for city choice:
I love the green woodlands and it feels closest to windrust.

A Midland Hyur Male would be my most likely choice with my class being a Lancer. Gridania is the land that the character starts off from.

Why?
I picked a Midland Hyur Male due to my preference for human characters (or if the situation prevents me choosing a human race then I would go for the most human like character). The choice of a lancer is due to how I want to have a melee character, yet would like to avoid taking damage if at all possible. Not to mention its the closest class to being a dragoon that I never got around to really try in ffxi before I stopped playing. As for Gridania it was a tough choice between it and Limsa Lominsa as I preferred leveling in areas with lots vegetation.

I will Likely make a Miqo'te pugilist in Gridania, Mainly to relive the glory days of my monk, also because I like beating things with my hands. I'm also a large fan of evasion as a defense for off-tanks. I really like Gridanias forests and general atmosphere. And It was a tough call between starting as a pugilist or a crafter, but I figure I can flop back and forth between miner and pug when I see nodes.

I'll be making something a hybrid Red Mage-style class. I'll focus primarily on Thaumaturge magic while borrowing a few skills from the other classes. I expect to either use either the Miquo'te or Male Lalafell race, depending on how my experience with the character creation goes.

I'll try starting off in Gridania only because the name amuses me in odd ways I refuse to describe.

I'm thinking a Hyur Conjurer in Gridania. Why? I want to play a mage class and the starting area reminds me of Ronfaure in XI.

My first character well be a Lalafall, and i'll be starting in Gridania.

Picking Lalafall because I was a Tarutaru in FFXI, and I like to play the small race that shows they can do whatever the bigger races can do.

Picking Gridania because my home nation in FFXI was Windurst, and I like the forest setting the most out of all the other towns.

Ravida Zalot, a Plainsfolk Lalafell Conjurer from Gridania!

Why?
My favorite race in FFXI was the Tarutaru's, so naturally I want to bring my cute little taru from FFXI to FFXIV! In every MMO I've ever played, regardless of my first choice in class, I'm drawn to the healer or support class. I plan to continue this little legacy of mine with the Conjurer. Gridania seems to be the most visually appealing nation-state to me with it's "mosaic of labyrinthine waterways and great wooden structures, so gracefully constructed they seem a part of the surrounding environment". It also seems to be the best fit for the earthy Plainsfolk Lalafell.

I plan to make my character a hyur Midlander male Botanist or possibly another gathering profession if more are revealed later. I'll most likely start in Gridania since it seems it would be most useful to a Botanist based on the way the area looks.

I enjoy the idea of being able to dedicate a class towards gathering and hope that SE is able to release a fleshed out experience that will be as engaging as war/magic.

First and foremost, I would like to thank you for the opportunity as like a lot of people, the patience and the heartache of refreshing your inbox every 5 min for several months is painful.

As for me, I would go for creating Three characters;

What & Where ?
1st) Ill make a Highlander

a) Focusing on strength and vitality to be a viable damage absorbing class, I will
start off as a Pugilist, mixing and matching with Marauder and Gladiator.

b) I'll most likely start this charecter out on Limsa Lominsa

2nd) Character would be a Dunes folk Lalafel

a) Focusing this little fella out on Magic, Piety and Mind for maxing out my
casting abilities, as you could guess, ill start this guy out as a conjurer
with a little Thaumaturge.

b) This fella will definatly be a resident of Gridania, something about the forest
makes magic casters feel like they are at home.

3rd) my last Character for this game would either be a Mi'qote or an Elezen (most likely Elezen)

a) This one ill focus on being a meele damage dealing class, again will start out
as a Pugilist, mix with marauder and maybe a little archery.

b) you can guess where this one is going to be born, Ul'dah nuff said.

Why?

The reason im going a 3 way split in this game is that i'd like to take my time in it, im in no hurry to get to the end, I want to immerse in it, get the epic fantasy feel of the game, just like how it felt back in FFXI.

I'm doing three characters to fill in every position without compensation, ya i could just switch weapons on the fly, and reallocate points, but no ! i want to dedicate, each character for a specific field, i want to tank, in one of them, cast in the other, and punch the living daylights with the last one.

Thats my long term plan for now.

Best regards folks !

Lalafell from Gridania, Miner/ Caster O(≧∇≦)O

Like most of the masses, i rushed to sign up for beta almost a year when it was first annouced and then rush to build a new pc that would hopefully be able to run the game. I haven't really played any other mmo since FFXI and the ones I have dabbled in haven't surpassed the experience I had during FFXI. I can't wait to see whereSE is taking this new MMO while still caring about it's loyal FFXI fanbase.

I'm going to choose Lalafell, mainly because throughout my FFXI career as playing an Elvaan i looked on with envy for my fun-sized companions.

As for my class I'll be starting out as a DoH Carpenter, i don't know exactly why but shaping wood into bows or creating sturdy furnishings has always intrigued me, And after a long day of sawing and selling of my products i would pick up a hand-made bow and travel outside to pick off unsuspecting rabbits and sheep.

The last choice of city state is a tough one, and after much debate i will choose Gridania. What's not to love about a town nestled into the treetops? The very thought of going into town in a over-sized tree house pricks the interest of my inner child, god now i want to get into the beat even more.

My very first character will be an unassuming Midlander Miner of the Ul'dah sovereignty. I see Ul'dah being the bustling metropolis at the middle of an arid desert. Being described as having rich mineral deposits in a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern inspired setting (a reminiscence of FFXII's Rabanastre) and culture, this miner couldn't ask for more.

I am leaning towards Gladiator or Pugilist, but definitely gunna try out all the classes.

Humans, Probably midlander, haven't decided gender.

I will probably start either in gridania or Ul'dah, The beta seems to be only in Limsa Lominsa so I want things to be new when I start.

I am interested in the Art Direction of the game, I am an aspiring concept artist/illustrator,
so I try to take much visual data as possible from any games in general. Particularly interested
in the weapon models and environment design.

My first character will be a Lalafell (Dunesfolk) Conjurer from Gridania because I think it makes my image of playing an MMORPG complete.
They're so little but when they unleash their conjury spells... deadly. I always liked magic classes but the best race for practicing magic skills must be the Lalafell.
And I choose Gridania beacause I already know this is going to look awesome! The trees, grass, bushes, just the whole nature-experience is what I seek. I'd love to make my home there :)

Good luck to everyone!

I was a Taru in XI, and now that all starting attributes will be the same, and we won't be at a disadvantage when it comes to melee, Lalafell all the way, Dunesfolk. I'm planning to play Pugilist and Thaumaturge at the outset, and I'd like to play Gladiator and a Samurai/Great Katana type class later down the line.

I'll be starting in Ul'dah, I don't know why, it just has the most Bastok-like appeal. I spent so much of my time in Bastok, even now nearly two years since I stopped playing, it still feels like a second home for me. I am hoping Ul'dah can recreate that feeling.

I will be creating a Lalafell Dunefolk, reason is I love that they made there homes on the backs of giant beasts of burden. Also when I played 11 I really wanted to make a taru and now is my chance! I will start in Ul'dah because I really feel it will fit well with the Dunefolk story. I would say my excitement level for this game could not be any higher! Just build a new pc and ran the benchmark at 4500 so I am Ready and Waiting!!!!!

I will be playing a Hellsguard Roegadyn, Thaumaturge/Miner/Goldsmith, starting in the nation-state Ul'Dah.

Why?

Roegadyn because I loved and felt the most connected to the Galka race of FFXI, though I must confess I will miss the tail.

Thaumaturge because offensive debuffing as well as support is my preferred role in party play.
Miner and Goldsmith because I had a blast mining dangerous areas all day to have a sack full of priceless gems to craft with later.

Ul'Dah because the abundant mineral resources sound like perfect assets to getting started, and the reputable fighting arenas and gambling halls make the city sound very exciting, entertaining, and alive. :)

In FFXIV I will start out as a Roegadyn of the Sea Wolves(I always regretted not being a galka in FFXI).
I'll start out in Gridania because I always loved the forest, and I'll pick Gladiator as my starting class.
I know a Roegadyn in a Forest seem kinda weird but it just feels like home to me (and looks to coolest to me). In FFXI I was a PLD so I wanted to be a Gladiator main in FFXIV just so I can start out with something I'm good at. Hopefully I'll be chosen for this beta. Lalafell Lancer of the Dunesfolk tribe starting in Limsa Lominsa.

Why?
I'm choosing Lalafell because I'm a Tarutaru in Final Fantasy XI. I'm choosing the Dunesfolk tribe so I can deviate from my Tarutaru in Final Fantasy XI since the Plainsfolk resemble the Tarutarus in Final Fantasy XI more than the Dunesfolk. I'm choosing Lancer because I enjoy playing my Dragoon. Limsa Lominsa has interested me since the game's announcement. It also reminds me of Jeuno which would probably be my favorite nation in Final Fantasy XI.

I'm still undecided between a midlander Hyur and a dunesfolk Lalafell. My starting class will be Archer and I plan on starting in Gridania.

Why? I played Tarutaru in Final Fantasy XI which has me drawn towards Lalafell, but at the same time, I would kind of like to play a different type of character this time. My starting class will be Archer and I plan on starting in Gridania. As for the starting city, the design of Gridania is the most appealing to me.

A miqo'te (Seeker of the Sun for the David Bowie eyes!) gladiator hailing from Gridania. I played a mithra in XI as it's simply the race most appealing to me, XIV will be no different. I'm choosing a gladiator because I want to become an excellent tank in order to help out my friends and LS/company. Gridania is my choice because I tend to go for the more primitive forest aesthetic as opposed to a traditional sort of city.
