Miqo'te Gladiator starting in Ul'dah. I also plan to level Mining, Blacksmith, Armorer, and potentially Goldsmith extensively.
Even though I don't like deserts, I'm choosing Ul'dah because it is the only starter city which appears to have a normal city layout, and the back-story sounds interesting. I'm avoiding Limsa because Alpha/Beta testers will know it like the back of their hand come retail, and I want to start someplace which is a new experience for everybody. I was originally favoring Gridania, but the E3 2010 trailer scared me off from that idea. From the brief shots shown, the potential layout reminds me of Windurst, which isn't a good thing. Now if S-E shows off Gridania, and it really does end up with a good layout, I'll likely start there instead, since I have a thing for forests.
I'm choosing Miqo'te (Keepers of the Moon) because I had only Elvaan and Hume characters in FFXI and I want something different this time around. If I end up having a secondary character in Retail, it will likely be a Lalafell, as I'm really liking some of their designs this time around.
I'm choosing Gladiator since that is the first class I see taking to cap, and the sword and board mechanism S-E came up with looks interesting. All-in-all starter class doesn't mean too much in the long run, since in order to take advantage of the armory system, I'll need to level many different classes for their skills.
