Just make a new NA SE account? It only takes 3 minutes to sign up a new account on hotmail and another 3 for a new SE account. :)

That was kind of entertaining to watch 4-5 new posts added every minute even @ 4:00am. If only some of my favorite debates saw that kind of action.

I personally think they should just add 1 stipulation to the contest. "Your account must be at minimum one (1) month old to qualify for this give-away"...

That way those who want to get in have a decent chance and those who don't deserve to, don't. I don't care if i get in but i would be seriously annoyed if most of our senior and high post count members did not and a bunch of rando 1 posters did.

Won't be too many unless they are opening other areas because keeping everyone in one spot will get too crowded soon enough lol.

I think they will be handpicking from the applicants. I doubt they'll just be picking randomly. It would make more sense afterall for them to "reward" dedicated fans of this site.

They have to select randomly, or else there will be accusations of favoritism. It's the fairest way, really. Just cross your fingers and hope that you're selected.

I think a lot of the posts there are socks, and mostly new ppl too making as many accounts as they can. I know the admins can see that, and hope none of them still get picked.

I am relatively new here myself. I joined over 2 weeks ago, but have been lurking for a while. I didn't join the site to get a beta invite, as nothing was going on at the time. I came to meet people and talk about the game.

However I too am hoping they don't allow people that have joined, let's say in August, when they knew a beta key giveaway was happening to get keys over people who were here longer. It just wouldn't make sense. Especially considering once they do or don't get their keys, they will be gone.

Some of them are even posting to up their post count too. I saw an Aion beta giveaway on a website I had been on for months. When they announced it, 100's of people joined the site, tried to get beta keys. And then left after they found out they were ineligible.

Wouldn't be surprised if people are making multiple accounts too shrug.

How could you even think that? It's obvious quite a lot are socks lol, but since it's at random, inc 1 person with 20 invites to sell. Smiley: lol

I have faith they'll have some kind of control over it even if it is random (since if this forum is like any other kind they can already tell who's a sock or not), it would just suck to see a lot of people who joined this site to say "Sup gimme beta key" win and never be heard from again.

Being a low post count account, I can actually agree with this. I've lurked this forum for *months* but haven't gotten around to posting.

Also, I apparently made this account months ago anyway and forgot about it so I'm pretty sure I'd pass the 1 month test anyway :P

Hey guys and gals - we are working on a way to reward some of the older / active posters and accounts. We can't reveal the details right away, but let's just say you're not going to go unloved. :)

UPDATE: To clarify, people with new AND old accounts are still more than welcome to enter the regular contest. Just wanted to inform you all that we have something in mind for our older / active / regular posters ON TOP OF the current giveaway.

Maybe they have more than 1 beta to give away. Since it's under NDA, they can give some away through the giveaway and some to loyal members and it can all be hush hush. No one knows except the admins.

Considering the recent European site beta giveaways, I would say it's likely they have more than 1 or 2 to give away. They had thousands on some of the European sites. I could be wrong though, no one likes smelly America XD

don't worry guys, the admins know what they are doing.
they could check the IPs and stuff like that to determine is there are ppl have multiple accounts.

and they are not playing favorism as well, because I wasnt even picked for phase 2 beta last time!!! LOL

(who i'm kidding, i derail threads everyday on ZAM lol)

It's pretty funny seeing the amount of posts in the beta giveaway thread. Clearly much love on the ZAM forums.
It's destined to be the biggest thread ever I think. It's pretty fun seeing what people are planning for their characters as well.

I can only imagine the amount of posts that will go in there throughout the day, and into the next few days. It will be in the thousands, maybe even tens of thousands. If this is the popularity simply to get into beta, it looks as though FFXIV could have a very healthy population come launch. =)

The beta is tied to your Square Enix account. They would have to make another Square Enix account to give away. There is no key or numbers you type in to gain access. Sqaure Enix enables your account.

I have mixed feelings. You guys do not want to alienate legit new posters. For people who say "I have been a poster for 6 years I deserve a invite over someone newer" feels kinda selfish. I do agree long term posters do in fact deserve to be recognized but EVERYONE wants to try this game out. One thing Ive learned from the work force. Promotions are not given based on seniority (posts) but rather performance and dedication (whether you've been with the company for 3 months or 3 years). Everyone should just be happy we got an extra chance to be selected.

I think the concern here is less about people who are genuinely new to Zam and more about sock accounts being created just so someone can get more entries

Right above your name, to the right of the date of the post, it says IP: Logged. For the admins, I believe it shows your actual IP. They can go through and wipe out socks fairly easily, Kaolian is quite adept at finding them, even if they try to mask their IP.

Hmm, I wonder how long I've been registered on Alla? haha. Well, like I said, I'm all right with not getting into beta (especially since we ain't all that far from release now), but of course I'd love to get picked. :)

Also, after checking some of the other fan sites, I'm getting the impression these sites do have a lot of keys to give away. Although the admin said they'll be doing something for you older and more active posters "above and beyond" just the beta key drawing, I don't know if I'd worry too much about being able to get a key. Of course, there'll always be a chance...

Also, I wonder in asking the questions they are - "What will be your starting city?" - I wonder if that's a little hint that they'll be opening up the other starting cities as well for phase 3. That'd certainly help the congestion of welcoming a few thousand more people into beta. :)

I would be upset if they did it by post count. I've been a member here for a couple years and have been trolling theses forums even longer. I'm here browsing just about every day I just don't have a lot to say but I post every now and again. If people with insane post counts get priority over those who have been here just as long with lower post counts I'll be a very sad taru.

But I do agree that those 1 post kids should be looked over during the choosing process. At least have a minimum requirement of 5 posts.

BTW did they say when the deadline for this is and when we should expect our keys if we do get picked? I don't want to be refreshing my inbox over and over only to find out winners were chosen 4 days ago and I wasn't one of them

Nevermind I didn't read the entire article I was too excited to maybe get a key.

In case any of you did the same thing:

Quote:
The deadline to enter is next Wednesday, August 11 at 9 PM Pacific. You may only enter once. If you do not answer the question or post off topic, your post will be removed. Winners will be randomly drawn and notified via email after closing.

This giveaway is intended to be open to all of the XIV community, but as Micajah said, people who have been active on this board will not end up being shut out.

The hope is that the 1 posters don't stay 1 posters, so please don't try to be so negative. Also, no offense to SE, but no game is THAT crazy awesome that we'd go through this trouble for only 1 beta key... ;)

IMO people who signed up for the contest within their first 10 posts shouldn't even be eligible, but it's not my contest so it's not my rules. I'm sure ZAM is happy to get all the new traffic, but how many of those people are going to stick around or actively participate in the community once they get an invite?

It's both. The fact that some one doesn't happen to post a ton shouldn't be held against them, but I don't see why people who have been living and dying with every new piece of information on the forums should be on equal footing with people who literally just created an account today. Like I said, I know the ZAM staff is happy for the traffic and hopes that many of these 1 post posters will turn into regulars (part of why you participate in some thing like this in the first place is to drive traffic) I just think their prospects are dubious, while those who have even dozens of posts much less hundreds or thousands are more "sure things"

The odds of some one getting an invite and then saying 'SEE YA!' or just selling the thing in ebay is much higher when they're not a known quantity in the community. If Mikhailia or Bsphil or whoever wins a key, I feel reasonably sure they're make use of it (in bsphil's case, probably just to yell at all the kids in beta to get off of his lawn, but still). Is randomguy12 going to make good use of it? I have no idea, and chance are we'll never see him or her make a useful post here.

Seriously I'm sure most of them just signed up, made post, clicked X button in top right corner. They will be back to check if they got their key but will never be heard from again. Honestly I think the same will go for the regular posters who get in as well. The servers are gonna be running 24/7 and since the NDA isn't lifted yet there wont be any discussions allowed here people will be either playing the game or discussing on the official boards. The main reason why most of the people are here in the first place is to get info from the game which is better to do in the actual game and not on a forum that wont allow you to talk about it yet. Unless the NDA gets lifted when beta 3 starts of course.

Well to be quite honest I think the point is that not every one cares if people who only showed up to get goodies stick around or not. This sub site has been here for over a year now and it's going to be here for a LONG LONG time to come. I probably don't speak for everyone, but I'd like for the people who stick around to be the people who like the game and want to contribute to the community, not just take from it. I'm sure that among the hundreds or thousands of new apps, there will be some great people who will stick around, but how many?

It sucks that people would abuse the system, but that's what people do. Aside from using the IP logs to weed out multiple posts what else can they do here? A random drawing should be exactly that. Ya can't change the rules in the middle of the game.

Of course that's easier for me to say as someone not entering...yet.

Thinking like that will not gain new members. I have found this site over a month ago and realized how great the community is and I know other new posters will as well. I just feel leaving them out is selfish. I would hope Zam would not turn into an elitist group of people who find themselves above the world. Treat new members with a open arms and you will have a great fan base. Im not saying give them ALL the beta keys but dont leave them out
