I'm sorry, RedGalka, but the choice in this detail wasn't ours. Square Enix is the one that made the call here.

Thinking like that will not gain new members. I have found this site over a month ago and realized how great the community is and I know other new posters will as well. I just feel leaving them out is selfish. I would hope Zam would not turn into an elitist group of people who find themselves above the world. Treat new members with a open arms and you will have a great fan base. Im not saying give them ALL the beta keys but dont leave them out

Well clearly the admins here are not going to exclude new members.

But I think there is a wide range of possibilities between "elitist" and "treat every one exactly the same." And yea, it's selfish wanting new people to be excluded, but it's also selfish for some one to show up to a site they've never bothered to post on before and expect to be treated equally to those who have been contributing for a long time.

If some one who started posting a month ago gets a key it wouldn't bother me in the least. If some one whose first post was "Can I haz beta keyz?" gets a key and there are really active sages and gurus who don't, then I'll be annoyed. Of course it doesn't matter if I'm annoyed because I'll still come here to read and post, but I'll do it while shaking my fist at my screen!

I decided to not bother with the beta key giveaway, though. I guess it's gotten close enough to release that I can be patient for the remaining time. I think it'll be nice to log-on into the full game. Just a little while longer.

Hey, now, I'm new here, but I'm really excited about getting this chance, and I at least put forth the effort to make a longer and more thoughtful post than 90% of those I looked at in the thread. I completely understand you guys wanting the people who've put more time in this forum to have a better chance, and I agree that 1-post guys whose only post ever on this forum will be on that thread are supremely annoying, but I still hope I have a chance, and I hope it's not a loathesome thing to you guys if I were to get an invite.

Anyway, I thought it was hilarious when I logged in after waking up today to see that thread already has HUNDREDS of replies. And 30 replies just since I made my post, like, minutes ago. It's like a flaming jungle full of rocket launcher-equipped apes in there.

You know what else really grinds my gears? Like, every single reply almost is just "I wanna be this. Why? because that's what I was in FFXI."
I was actually kinda hoping there'd be more people who put a lot of thought into it and made a good reply, especially since I personally think that's the type of post that'll be more likely to win. I was kind of interested in reading what a lot of people were gonna be and good detailed reasons why, thinking it'd be a fun thread to read for reasons beyond just the contest itself, but it seems most people just want to get in a quick entry for the drawing. There's always the chance that the question could've just been so the thread'll have something logical to talk about and the winners will actually be randomly picked from anyone who replied, but I sure hope not.

All are welcome to the contest. IP's will most likely be checked to rule out duplicates. I figure no matter who wins, people will not be happy. ZAM has given an opportunity to join the beta and people gripe. Take it for what is it, a chance at beta. You win or you don't.

Well, there was a disclaimer in the OP that mentioned that "off-topic posts would be removed". I didn't enter, but if I did, I would have kept the superfluous details to a minimum, to make sure that my post was counted as answering the question and relevant.

A new "What will you be?" thread pops up every couple of weeks. I'm sure another will roll around so that you can pick people's brains a little.

And the contest is random. Barring illegal sock accounts, everyone will have an equal chance, regardless of how detailed their explanation was.

44.
44 is the number of the days we have to wait to get our hands on the real product if you bought the CE.
the giveaway sign up is gonna end on 08/11, so i dont expect we will have the beta keys until next week.
so we will probably have only approx 1 month to beta test this game.
I personally am still builidng a new pc and hopefully it will be done before i get the beta keys.

but anyway.
let's welcome the 1 post posters with open arms

I'm fine with a duration criteria. I've been coming to this forum for quite a while now.
I'm not okay with a post count criteria. Why should I be penalized because I don't have 200 posts? I lot of times I have nothing to add to the conversation. Should I just put spam in so that my post count is higher?

I'm sure this will be the fairest give away possible, I agree on eliminating socks, but still encourage giving the sockers one entry instead of eliminating them.

I don't believe the 1st day, 1 post posters, should be penalized. If someone rolls around the net creating a new account at every FF fansite and enters all the contests, then they are just as hardcore a fan as you or I. As long as someone isn't going to ebay their key, attaining it only for greed, and not love of the game, I don't hold anything against anyone. I know *I* can't be bothered to do it, so kudos to them! Like Wint Says, we only have 49 days until the CE is out; it will fly by and we'll look back on this and laugh.

I'm looking forward to the new members as well, this can only enrich ALL our discussions here, more opinions, and more questions answered more quickly!

I just hope SE does a cardboard standee for Gamestop for this one; FFXI didn't get one! I'm the #1 fan at my store so I'll get to take it home. ^__^ At least some big smexy window posters please!!!

While sock-puppetry is despicable, I imagine some of the accounts are probably long time lurkers of this site who never bothered posting before like myself. I discovered this site before the beta process had even begun and drop by multiple times per day to see if there are any interesting new discussions (or bits of news) going on.

I'm glad that you guys aren't making me jump through a bunch of hoops to have a chance at this when I've already been here visiting every day. Other sites have silly requirements to artificially inflate their membership which get people to post a bunch of repeat threads that add nothing new to the discussion. There is nothing that I hate more than redundancy on a message board.

So bravo ZAM for not throwing on a bunch of red tape. Although, my apologies to the moderators for having to play whack a mole in sniffing out the IPs of all the sock puppet accounts.

I wonder, don't some forums have a limit? Like doesn't the server get too burdened at some point if a thread hits like a hundred pages? Who wants to bet they'll "crash" the thread?

I haven't heard of a post to thread limit on Zam. I have my settings at 100 posts/page, so there are only 11 pages for me Smiley: tongue Makes it easier to search that way, I find.

Same here.

The ONLY reason I would is to actually test the game and to see if it ran well on my system. I'm on the fence right now about buying a new video card and just need some proof.

I'm 90% sure it will run fine though if it runs poorly then I have to take a trip to FRY's or Microcenter the day I get it! :D

Hehe, ive been here fora few months lost of post and opinions :) some valid others not so much, i acually like the zam comunity for the most part, Still get a few peopel that jsut want to be jerks just cuz they can be. But People that post in this forum remind me of the FFxi players. Most are willign to give advice, be helpfull and just be like people that are talking to you face to face. I like it. Anyway before i go into to much of a rant.

The Beta give away is a cually a bit of a surprize to me, course i applied though :) Ill have my new video card in before contest closes :).. least i hope so.. (btw thanks mikhalia and Wint for the help on choosing a good one) As for it being NA only people, being in NA i think YAY better chances! but for thoes not in NA i acually can understand the fustration. Think SE may have done this due to 1) Zam upholding there rules, and 2)THey had give away for most other countries. and most zam peopel arnt jerk, alot willign to give opinions and advice without being an @$$ about it. Basicly what SE wants in there beta testers. I know this last one didnt help the NA only cause due to alot of people not in NA are great people as well With valid opinions and respect for themselves as in not publicly makign an @$$ of themselves just cuz its online. (btw havent slept in about 32 hours now and got a full day of work ahead of me. so forgive my ramblings and typos i miss)

Anyway YAY zam for Giving away beta keys! And good luck for thoes who get it. Also for thoes who do get in.. as soon as NDA is lifted PLEASE PLEASE give us info.. The church of mikhalia will bake cookies for you!

Oh yeah one more thing to mention. Hope IP's are logged so thoes who post multiple times get removed. cuz that just mean :P think everybody else In Na should be included :)

Sorry, HOW many posts in 12 hours!?!
And it's open till next Wednesday?
Anyone care to guess how many it will be by then? :p

For people annoyed at the various conditions, nuances, restrictions you have to remember, this is only for the beta. It's not meant to be a free demo.
You are not entitled to anything at all.
You are lucky to even be given a chance, and if you are in the criteria that aren't, then accept it and move on.

I'm not eligible, so I just wish the best to everyone else, and to do a good job.

This is meant to be a community, so act like one.
(the greed and selfishness of people never ceases to amaze me.)

It's going to be interesting how they'll decide upon how to chose the lucky winners. Regardless on how the winner are chosen, Zam now will a new potential pool of hopeful new long time members. That's good for everyone IMHO. I've been around for 5 years on and off but I wasn't a super active poster like some of the venerable ZAM posters. I hope if they do decided to allocate some of the beta keys to active ZAM members, they won't go by post numbers alone.

But I guess it really depends upon how many beta keys they got. I guess in a perfect world there would be enough keys for the all the ZAM older then 1 month that participated in the beta key thread and enough there would be enough keys to raffle off to all the new faces.

If your account has 100+ posts and shares an IP with another account created on a different date with 100+ posts, and these accounts haven't rated each other up constantly, then it's pretty obvious they aren't the same person.

If, however, 5 users are from the same IP address with one post and a simliar posting style (the same typos, lack of punctuation, misuse of you're/your or their/there/they're, etc), all created on 8/4.... yeah, probably duplicates.

I started coming here when I started in FFXI when the PS2 launched. I have had 2 accounts (forgot the first password) and have made exactly 5 posts. Now with this being said I have probably spent more time here reading these forums than alot of active members. I'm not saying I should be lumped into the extra drawing I was just simply implying that some of us just like to absorb information. I spend at least an hour everyday just at work looking around the forums. What is so ironic is I created this account yesterday to reply to the post about the 8 days being an advantage. I had no idea about the Beta invites.

That's really all I have to say.

Random fact, my very first post was a Thread about the similarities between the FFXI jobs and the people in the movie King Arthur... if anyone remembers that. How long ago was that?

Yeah, my sister and brother both log in from here some times..though I think it's more activity/behavior that determines sockness than just same IP.

We were discussing legit users behind network devices which would make everyone from an organization appear to be originating from a single address. If some clown wanted to cheat the beta key contest, they're probably smart enough to use alternate means.

Well to be quite honest I think the point is that not every one cares if people who only showed up to get goodies stick around or not. This sub site has been here for over a year now and it's going to be here for a LONG LONG time to come. I probably don't speak for everyone, but I'd like for the people who stick around to be the people who like the game and want to contribute to the community, not just take from it. I'm sure that among the hundreds or thousands of new apps, there will be some great people who will stick around, but how many?

Not everyone who wants a beta key wants to "take" from the community. Lets be honest; EVERYONE wants a beta key, but that doesn't mean everyone wants to grab and bail.
lets say someone was searching for a way to get a beta key and managed to pull up this site. They then register and apply for the beta key. While applying they see a community for this game starting to develop and want to be a part of it, as well as read and contribute to the information already here.

I browse this forum on a regular basis, just because i don't post every other minute like other people.... don't over react.....

P.S. good luck in getting picked

With people and just 1 posting such as myself was... look at when the account was created.. way earlier in the year...... you guys need to get your facts straight before you start saying people are creating multiple account. I browse this forum on a regular basis, just because i don't post every other minute like other people.... don't over react.....

P.S. good luck in getting picked

Speaking of overreacting..

We're not accusing everyone with 1 post of being a sock. At the same time, please don't pretend it isn't going to happen and hasn't happened already.

I'm thrilled to add voices to the community, as long as the people being added are, in fact, voices and not just drones to influence the results of what is essentially a raffle

Call, your totally right... I'm sure there are people who did just that. Im sure up in the admin office they can see when the accounts were created. Just hope they arent gonna over look us with a low post count because we haven't posted on the forum. It just annoys me when people make the assumption that once someone does it everyone else is....
