lol. That's really crazy.

That's like a down payment for a house, let alone for a computer kit.

The Zam community (and my wife) talked some sense into me.

Spent around half of the original amount I was looking at and have picked up a pretty good system. See specs below

Congrats on the new system, looks **** good and should score well on the bench. That original build was looking pretty **** though, with a 980 and dual 5970s. I commend you for having the strength to pass on that and save some dough.

I have to say that I'm 50/50. If I would of been selected to test out the beta I wouldn't turn it down. Mostly for the chance to learn the controls, character creations and areas. But then again that's using the beta pass for the wrong reasons. When I get on 14, i don't really want to get on it to see what's wrong w/ it. I mean I'm pretty sure there will be alot of updates that still need to be done once it's release. On the other hand, I dont mind waiting either as it's a bigger surprise.

Nah, you're not alone in your feelings. I, too, would be glad to be a part of the beta if selected. But really, when I think about it, I don't want to have to start all over again once the game is released. I want to just make my character and move forward, you know?

I wonder how many of the Beta players will get to retain their characters? I had heard there will be an Open beta. Is that the case for Beta 3?

Not knowing if you will be able to carry over or not would make for a hard decision about Beta character creation. If you knew you could not carry over, then making a character of a Race and Starting City that you are NOT planning to use would be the most likely choice. I suppose a trial run of what you ARE going to do wouldn't be all bad, but I'd rather try something different and still have a brand new area to explore at release.

I want in... but if I don't get in I will deal. While having to "start over" would be a bit annoying - getting used to the mechanics would be awesome. I rerolled a couple times in FFXI and I always ended up being able to do things more efficiently and smarter each time.

And since the beta is about testing the game - not getting ahead - I have no problem with rerolling. TBH when it goes live for the whole world it will still be mega-awesome.

There's almost zero chance of beta characters carrying over to live.

There is zero chance. Beta characters will allegedly get to keep their names (There was a lot of ******** about this before the Alpha), but not their progress. The character itself, I don't know about. Definitely not their progress though.
