Because people have asked me to update this with a regional leve reset timer.

So it is just a widget that tells you when 8 pm est is then?

Windows 7 64bit works just fine.

Here's the ss: http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/897/43865466.jpg

Thanks! One request I have is to add the element and moon information in on a future update. People are starting to track the effects of moon and elements on crafting, skill ups, drops, mob strength etc. The research is sparse still, but early indications are that this will effect things in FFXIV in a similar way as it did in FFXI.

And when the next reset is. You did see the screenshots right? I'm trying to figure out what you're trying to prove here.

Yes, moon phase is in the works, I need to figure out when they happen and devise some graphics for it. Where do you see element information?

Ah cool, I'd like to give it a bash but I don't play (unless SE make with the goodies. But thats a different topic). So out of curiosity, how long did it take to make that software/program? Was it tricky?

I've no in depth computing knowledge, besides where the on button is and what my keyboard does :P

8 pm est refers to when the guildleves will reset next so you can get new ones. The widget tells you when the next reset is and counts down to it so you can plan the use of your guildleves accordingly. They reset every 36 hours, so this will allow people to know when they will be able to get new leves. Once 8 est comes and the leves reset, the widget will update again to show the next reset after that.

It's not difficult, it's basically a web page with an XML manifest to show it's a gadget. You store it in a zip file but instead of a .zip extension it's a .gadget extension.

Ah i see. How do get it so as it works with different operating systems? I.e 32/64 bit? Just because I never understood the difference between 32/64 would have on programs running.

How does it know what "time" it is in game?

Simple mathematics Smiley: smile

Theoretically the code would work on any computer with a browser, but the gadget itself only works on Windows Vista and 7.

That is what I get for posting from work... maybe this is not shown in the game yet, but given that days do change in game and they have you choose thinks like birth day, etc, and the color wheel has been shown in SE propaganda as well.

I downloaded a clock app my Android, but noticed this one for Palm Pre as well that I posted on my LS site. I have not tried it, but it appears to show day element information on it (see pics). http://www.precentral.net/app-gallery/app-catalog/eorzea-clock-for-ffxiv

One: It alternates between 8 PM and 8 AM. In fact, if you're waiting for 8 PM right now, you've screwed up, because the next one is 8 AM.

Two: It's 8 PM & 8 AM EDT, which you'll find out about in about a month, when you'll find out it's 7 PM & 7 AM EST.

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium, and right now I'm seeing a red X mark in the corner of the gadget where the moon phase should be.

EDIT: Pic included. I've uninstalled the clock and then reinstalled the clock yet it still shows this.

Yup, got the same thing - Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Also, I'd much prefer there be a 'light' version of this thing that's the same size as all the other widgets to it fits on the side of the screen with the rest of 'em.

Hmmm, the icons must not have been packaged when I created the .gadget file. I'll look into it.

I will see about making a smaller version for those who don't want to have a larger gadget but to be honest, I can't anticipate what gadgets others are running and I'm still well within the size standards.

It's working for me.

BTW, since you made this work, you must know. What's the time conversion factor? Is it 25:1 like it is for FFXI? It seems to be in that vicinity, at least.

It's a little more complicated than that, I wish it were that easy Smiley: smile

Basically there are 70 real world minutes per game day, so if you have an epoch to start with (known time in game versus known time in real world) it's just mathematics to drill it down into game time.

Khorbin figured out when the game started so we are able to accurately calculate the years even though they don't seem to keep track of them in game like XI did.

I wasn't planning on writing my own routines, I was just curious as to what the time flow rate was. At 70 earth minutes per Eorzean day, that actually works out as somewhat slower than Vana'diel time; a Vana'diel day is 57 minutes and 36 seconds in earth time.

Update to the gadget incoming today. Smaller size, and reformatting as well. I might try to sneak some new functionality in there too depending on how quickly the work goes.

There actually is no set size, I could make it as large or as small as I want, and I've seen larger.

No worries though, I have some changes that will be in today that I think you will enjoy.

Great gadget Wint. This is exactly the type of timer I want to see created, an Elemental Affinity Timer.

The categories are very well organized. Moon Polarity is just that, Astral or Umbral and they cycle through the year in six sets. Dig it. As well as the Moon's elemental affinity. Very straight forward, twelve Gods with elemental alignment representing each of the twelve moons.

The Elemental Hour though, doesn't seem to update itself with the Eorzean hours. In fact, it seems to update rather randomly. As a result, I can't tell which elemental order you chose. After reading the Eorzean Chronology, it seemed clear that the order is:

ICE > WATER > WIND > LIGHTNING > FIRE > EARTH

And this order repeats four times per Eorzea Sun (Gametime Day). Is this your interpretation also?

Also, have you considered adding the Sun Element? With an eight sun Eorzean week, I believe the order would be the same as above for sun 1 to 6. With sun 7 and 8 representing Astral and Umbral, but the order is unclear.

Anyways, great job!
