Since you edited to "please delete" I'm gonna thread jack and make this a new thought. Hope you don't mind...

Ok, so everyone is aware of the new thread about "tell us what you plan to do in FF14 and we may surprise you with a beta key." Last time I looked there were 50 pages. I am curious as to how they are going to "pick" people to surprise with a key from all those posts. Is there an app they can run that randomly picks people from X thread? It just seems very tedious. I am not against the idea or fun of possibly getting into beta. I'm just wondering.

Yes and no. It's not too hard to write a script to pick through the thread for names, but the big problem is that each post needs to be individually checked to ensure that they did not post off topic and that they answered the questions fully.

There are several posts in there in which the question was not properly answered, so those people would obviously not be picked. I'll see if I can hunt down some examples.

The alternative, I suppose, would be to extract all the poster names (easy with a program), pick some at random, and then check those people's posts. And if they are a sock or their post is invalid, then reselect.

They're going to get all the names - then delete all but Mikhalia - then post the sole winner of multiple beta keys, then Mik will give one to me and we'll go and kill things and take their stuff.

That's how the process goes.

Mik! Why are you so selfish? If you get all the keys you should at least give out two or three.

Here's some people that won't be winning because they didn't answer the "Why?" part: (Names removed)

Quote:
What will your first character in Eorzea be and what nation-state will you start in? Why?

I gotta go with my Dunesfolk Lalafell Pugilist (male).

Nation-state, Gridania without a doubt!

Quote:
My first character will be a Highlander Hyur Pugilist.

He will hail from the city of Ul'dah.

Quote:
My first character will be a Hyur Highlander Marauder starting in Gridania.

Quote:
Lalafell THM/CON in Gridania

thanks for this btw..

Quote:
My first character will be a Hellsguard. I am looking into starting in Ul'dah but it will depend on my friends. We will vote where everyone is wanting to start.

Quote:
What class: pugilist
What race: Miqo'te ( Keepers of the Moon )

Quote:
I will go with Hyur, again... But this time I will start in place that has lil more trees, so I will start in Gridania. lol

There are a lot of iffy ones where the questions were only kinda answered, and I don't know where the line is drawn on that.

At any rate, I'd say that out of every 100 posts, there are probably 2-5 that don't fully answer the question, and maybe 5-10ish that are extremely brief, like this one:

Quote:
Roegadyn!
LL!
So I can fish! :D

I could think of half a dozen or so posters on here that aren't me that deserve beta access. I'm crossing my fingers for them, but I have nothing to do with who gets in so all I can do is wish them the best.

And no, I won't list them :P

I just skimmed through and jumped around random pages.

There are some REALLY DETAILED entries and some really brief ones. There are some funny ones too.

Some nice gems in that thread if you wanna read though it all.

Here's one of my favorites:

Quote:
What will your first character in Eorzea be and what nation-state will you start in?

Miqo'te Marauder, Limsa Lominsa

Why?

Meow nya mew. Purr. Meow, maow, mew~nya. Meow meow mew nya meow mew nya meow. Hiss. Nya-mew. Mew meow meow purr. Nyan. Nyao. Maow. Mew? ... Meow mew, nya, meow. Mew purr. Mew mew mew mewmewmew nya nyaan purr meow. Nyu. Nyu mew. Meow.

Heh!

That post is indeed interesting. That person has quite an imagination and vocalization to to spell out how a feline communicates :)

I'm curious now, I'm gonna go paw through them some see if I can dig up some funnies.

This was a good one I came across the other day...

"A Roegadyn Hellsguard who sets off to Eorzea and lands in Limsa Lominsa in order to train in the arts of the cook and to perfect his 5-alarm Lalafell chili original recipe."

heheh, first page BAM!

I absolutely adored being a mithra in ffxi, so I will be their closely resembled friends in Miqo'te, Because nothing beats watching those star struck eyes of the Hyur, when seeing my magnificently cute tail *chuuu*

I have to admit, many I times while in group I have 'lagged' back only to play follow the mithra or elvaan XD! Only because staring at my male characters *** all day is really no fun.

If a beta key was a physical object... What would it look like? I don't know but I really want one... If I had known Gamestop employees were getting free keys, I would've applied there part time a month ago!

I think it'd be cool though if they took that list and said those with a karma level of xx+ get a key. And then lower the threshold till all the keys are gone or there aren't anymore socks in the drawer.

September 22nd is just too far away imo.

Don't worry, it was only 2 keys per store and of course those went to the manager, Assistant manager, or anyone they really liked. (check Ebay too) and we're NEVER hiring, corporate has been EXCEPTIONALLY cheapskate with our payroll lately and giving us minimum hours so there's no room to hire except for 3 months around Christmas -_-;;

I would like to think the beta key would be etched onto a little keyblade key chain like in the SE tore, how amazing would that be?!
