Question about FFXIV early server transfers?Follow

Looked for a bit, I'm sure its been posted so I don't mind a link to an existing thread if possible.

I'm wondering if FFXIV will allow free server transfers for a period of time so that everyone can sorta get their servers sorted. Do we even know if XIV's servers will be named the same as FFXI's?

I just feel its going to be a massive cluster fluck of bad news with the game coming out early for limited edition, and trying to get all your friends on the same servers and whatnot.

So, what do we know so far?

I know that facebook is being used to coordinate my former shell [and guild] mates to coordinate what server we'll be populating at launch.

Remember, 90% of victory is preparation ^^

Yeah. I'm not quite lucky. I'm basically looking to follow a core group of great friends that I've known from the start. They're also following a few of their friends as well. I just forsee a problem getting everything organized >.<

It's been pretty much stated that FFXIV will not be using the same server names as XI.. but it has been speculated that you'll be able to choose your server this go-around. I'm sure once the NDA drops you'll know what server names will be available to you and you can coordinate in that way.

Yeah. It would make sense for them to allow you to easily connect with people for the first parts. I just hope SE does this right, lol.

XI didn't let you choose your server?

In the beginning, I don't think it did. Generally speaking though, that was not that big of a problem. If you had a few friends that wanted to play with you i ASSUME you just made a char, and re-did that till you got into the appropriate server.

With FFXIV, the relationships and communities are so well established already, that they have to provide some method of sticking together. Or, so I hope...

Even by entering several times to finally end up with the server you want, it must've still been a gruesome experience considering you'd have to remake your character every time. For someone like me who takes character customization WAY too seriously, that must've been torture. If SE opts to go with that primitive server selection scheme for XIV...

In FFXI you could do world transfers by having your friends from another server buying a ticket or some such (for in game currency) then it would be active for a few days. They would give you the code and you would input it when you created your character and easy as that you are on the same server.

Yeah no. Unless it used to be different. It costs up to $25.00 to do that.

What you're refering to is a buddy ticket, you buy one, and have a friend create a new character using the gold pass. This links you and the friend to be "adventuring fellows" or something, and the longer you both play, the more special items you can get. ie:

-- Edit - OK this site either has some of the like, worst URL coding ever, or it's just not working for me.

[url] failed, and this [link] stuff also failed :/ -- Oh look, it auto hyperlinks. -.-

Keep in mind I played from PS2 release til ToAU, so yes it could have changed since then. That was indeed how it worked, I used it myself to transfer to the same server as some friends of mine. I believe it was called a World Pass.

Poked around for a minute and discovered it has indeed been changed.

Yeah. If it were free people would be able to fluctuate the economy to insane proportions. Well, I started playing in 2007, so, it all makes sense, lol.

The World Pass only worked on new characters. So I couldn't take my 75 Warrior and jump to another server with everything intact. Give SE a little credit, they aren't that blind :P

I beta tested ffxi on ps2 and yea worldpass is what we used to get together when it went retail. Talk about a P.I.T.A. we didn't get to keep our beta characters like the 360 people did....
