Actually no license yet, but I can still develop. You just need the license to submit.

It's a simulator, so the window behind is the code for the app, if I understand what you are referring to correctly Mik. I do have an iPad, but I'm just shooting for the iPhone at the moment.

Sweet, I had something like that on my Palm for ffxi. It had VD time, ferry schedules, moon cycles, etc.

It was nice. For example, you could look ahead to see when the next 5 full moon darksdays were going to be.

Think it's the same as iPhone where you can develop for free, but you pay to get the license to put the apps up. I used to have a BB and looked into it once. Maybe it's changed.

Search for FFXIV or Eorzea or probably some other terms on the Android Market. I'd give you the QR code link if I had a premium account... Anyway, it's free. Also I just finished getting (I hope) all of the bugs out of the desktop widget. The widget still looks pretty ugly, but I figured function before looks. I'll make it pretty later. Like I said, it's free. Let me know what you think.

On another note, I think I created a clock-monster in Wint by giving him my algorithm. Which is awesome, because everyone needs clocks.

Can you actually test your apps in the iPhone SDK, or do you have to upload them to your phone via USB first? I was considering downloading it, but I don't have an iPhone to test on so it'd be pretty useless to me if you need one.

Things said about Windows Mobile this year:

The Kin looked kind of cool, but it sold a total of 23 units worldwide, mostly to antique speculators.

Then there's me, with no smartphone. I really need to get one.

Also, Wint's making me a tad bit jealous with all this mad programming skill. That's originally what I went to college for. I was young and stupid back then... dropped out because programming was boring. (Back then, the only languages my community college covered were RPG, COBOL, and a little C++.) At least I partially redeemed myself and went back for PC Troubleshooting & Repair.

Hmmm... wonder if these two girls' laptops sitting behind me could run FFXIV...

Just go learn Perl. It's easy to code in. As a stroke of genius, they designed it in a way where everybody's code looks like sh*t, so right off the bat your code will be indistinguishable from that of a seasoned pro. Seriously, I miss Perl.

C++ this semester in college, which starts in a few weeks Smiley: frown I hate being older than my instructors.

I had C++ as part of my PC Repair course, which struck me as kind of unusual. I did shatter the curve, however. One of the programs we had to write was a simple conversion of hours to minutes. The book we were working out of had us doing it with two variables and twelve lines of code. Because of the syntax in C++, I managed to rewrite the program to do it with one variable and nine lines. The teacher saw this, gave me 110% for the project, and instructed the rest of the class to use my method instead. I finished the course with an average of 104%.

Also, don't be too uncomfortable being older than your teachers. I'm a shift supervisor at a grocery store, and most of the people I manage are old enough to be my parents.

Yeah I got a 103% in Comp Sci I. I scored a 35/40 on their "Placement Exam", yet still didn't manage test out of any class other than their entry course ("This is how you turn on a computer", "This is the RAM", etc).

It was a course on OOP in Java, which is so close to C# that I pretty much skipped half to 3/4 of the class and still managed the A+. Teacher used most of my homeworks and all of my extra credit projects as the posted solutions lol. All in all, a waste of $900. Kept the books though Smiley: thumbsup

I'm a Windows Dev at heart, Microsoft makes the best IDE's out there, they're so easy to use.

Agree with you, VS2010 is the best IDE available. However, have you considered QT? 4.7 introduces QML which is a UI layer that runs a bit like Javascript but with QScript can import a js file into the UI (import "file.js" as fileJavascript) or have C++ code behind, it's very flexible and amazingly good, and, importantly, QT is available on Windows Mobile, Android, Symbian, Maemo/Meego, and the apps will run on Windows/Linux/OSX too, you craft the app in QT Creator, compile it to the architect (x86/arm/freemantle etc.) and that's it, a cross platform widget which can be ported to the iPhone.

I strongly believe that QT Quick is the future, and is an amazing platform to work on (just waiting for the update to let me flash my N900 to Meego with UX and for QT integration with VS2010).

Of the top of my head, to make that UI, let's see..

include QT 4.7

Rectangle {
id: mainWindow
width: 800
height: 480 // N900, can use an initial loader file with a rotate if you want
image {
id: background
source: images/background.png
x: 0
y: 0
}
Rectangle { // within the main rectangle
id: currentTime
width: 50
height: 25
Text {
id: currentTimeText
text: "Current Time"
}
} // etc..

Looks great man :D! I'm a web designer by trade so I'm not into coding all that much aside from Actionscript etc. I bought a load of books and joined the apple developer program in the hope that I would build some apps but I've yet to get into it. Seeing this reminds me that I need to start studying so I can join in the fun!

Looking great so far, you charging for this bad boy? (it's irrelevant for me as I buy anything haha xD)

I haven't had time to work on this since school started. If, and that is a VERY big IF, I can find some time over the fall break/holidays, I might try to put something out. The catch is I'm probably going to have to put a $0.99 price tag on it. I hate to do it, but the developer's license isn't exactly cheap ($100) and this would be the only app I would be submitting any time soon.

Not meaning to hijack the thread or steal the OPs thunder or anything, but there's 2 iPhone APPs out right now for FFXIV. Thought people might want to know...

One is called the FFXIV Companion. It's very basic atm only having the game date and time, times for moon cycles (it mattered in FFXI, does it matter in XIV?) and a Guildleve Cooldown timer.

The other is a little more robust and is called Eorzea Navigator. This also features the game Date/Time and Guildleve timer, as well as item and recipe lists. The concent for these lists is user generated, but in the week(?) that I've had it, quite a bit of information has been added and the programmer has already released an update for it.

Of the two Apps, the first one is visually nicer, but only has the timer. Not very useful atm. The second one (Eorzea Navigator) has been pretty handy. Playing full screen and with no access to the internet aside from my phone, this hs come in useful multiple times. Definately made trying to figure out the recipes to synth something easier. Both of these apps are free.
