As Wint said yes, plus more than likely it's not even a small percentage of the game. You also will have many updates that will occur between now and even on release date. Beta version is just that a work-in-progress, it is in now way shape or form meant to be retail or complete full game version.

Squarenix also wants to obtain revenue for a game that they worked on, for I'm sure, a few years now. They allow beta testers to have access to the game to progress their work. Once the game is released they will get revenue from the retail version of the game from all players, plus the monthly access fee once everyone's grace period is over.

Another thought is also you would need the disc's if you had to reinstall for any reason.

I'm sure @ release they'll be expecting registration keys for all users. As far as discs for installation go, I'm not sure why you'd ever need them provided you have a paid registration code linked to your account [same as FFXI and WoW] and providing there is a downloadable version of the game client [WoW does this, AFAIK FFXI has NOT done this]

That said, I'm also sure that the changes between the beta client and RTM will require a reinstall/full install [I'm not in the beta, but using logic and reason I can guess that beta testers are only provided with a small % of the actual game.] If you're REALLLLY lucky, they'll have an updater that will upgrade you to the full RTM. . but you'll still have to shell out your money for a registration code for the game.

The less there is to download the faster we can get it installed and get playing. Smiley: grin

I stand corrected. I forgot about the registration codes and the game client, I should have remembered that.

I do agree with Obakemono though. If FFXI is any indication those download times are a ******! Hopefully if you are lucky enough to get into beta it will alleviate some of that download mess. Like maybe 5 hrs vs 10 but thats prob wishful thinking lol.
