[Planned Adjustments]

Listed below are details on some of the upcoming changes. Although these changes will not be in place by the time of the first test, we are currently working to ensure that they are implemented at some time during the course of beta testing.

Battle Related:
- The archer ability Refill will display how many arrows have been obtained.

- A new function has been added which enables players to specify targets such as "NPC only" or "PC only."

System Related:
- Adjustments to the main menu.
→ The delay experienced when opening and closing windows will be reduced → Exiting query windows with the cancel button will be made possible

- Adjustments to chat controls.
→ Using shortcut keys to reply will be made possible → Sending tells to a targeted player will be simplified

- The directional keys to control the camera will be changed in order to improve gameplay using the keyboard..

- Closing the main menu with the mouse will be made possible.

The bolded part was a huge concern for me.
/thanks the heavens.

Something you can't see unless you're a tester.

*Shrug*

If the controls were exactly like FFXI, I'd have been 100% fine with them. No need to change them. I'd have told them as such in beta... but some people just can't learn to adjust.

I actually hated the keyboard controls in FFXI, was glad ,I was able to play it with a controller. Hopefully FFXIV will have a standard MMO keyboard set up, and let you change the keys.

There is really no excuse for not having keyboard controls that can be customized. Such an easy thing that could turn people off the game immediately if it is not implemented.

Like it or not, for this game to succeed they need as many WoW-type players paying to play as possible. Without them the game will shrivel up in 2-3 years just like every other MMO.

There's no PvP and also there's a quite larger PvE fanbase that will be playing and continue to play for years to come. They don't "need" WoW type players playing at all. Not to mention there's still the PS3 base that makes up an even larger gamer base that can't afford to get a good PC built that will be playing as well.

America expected FFXI to fall off the face of the earth after a month. The games that shrivel up and die are because their content didn't satisfy people or the game was utter ****..which FFXIV is not.

Not to mention people forget that the typical MMO user base is 30-120k players which most F2P MMOs have and more.

I don't think it would disappear in 2-3 years. Just the name final fantasy is something of a cult following. Ffxi is still going after many years. I see where you are coming from though, customization is key evidenced by the fact so many used windower in xi.

There's not many good RPG's on PS3. When it comes out on there it will get reviewed in all the PS3 mags and pick up a lot of players that may not have paid much attention to it before.
Also, don't forget lots of the FF games were on playstation.
I couldn't play FFXI when it came out (didn't get a PC capable of running it until it had been out 5 years) though would have played straight away if I could have used the playstation (was unable to go online with PS2)
Add to that the more 'casual' aspects and I think XIV will be more popular than XI.
