My apologies to the forum, I've looked for many of these answers and could only find a handful of answers so I'm hoping a more knowledgeable person might share some answers with me.

Ok so in no particular order...Italic Text

- Will there be housing again?
- Are we really "stuck" if the 3rd or 4th guy doesn't do his part of the chain combo?
- why are crafting professions listed as "classes?"
- Are we really limited to 15 people for Raids and large scale battles?
- Are there competitive team games? Like the Rook game or the giant water ball from 12?
- Will the fishing mechanic still be "mini-game" unto itself or be the suck from wow?
- I see "Lancer" has replaced "dragoon" will there be no pet? Or wait for expansion?
- I assume Ninja, Bard, Samurai, Summoner will be in expansions?
- Will there be any large scale raids planned?
- integrated voicechat or still need seperate software like vent?
- If Lancer fights from the 2nd rank, can they use any other weapon? Staff? Bow (or is that too close?)
- Why is the FFXIV website so terrible? It barely shows anything - are there plans for a better website?
- Is the Sept 22 release date still on? How can they release with so many missing functions?
- Will there be linkshell house, stronghold, airship? (DDO has airships), or guild bank/storage?
- Will the rare item/spawn camping be fixed?

I know thats a lot, but I'm really craving more information. I've done searching in the forum but found little bits here and there, most of which is unconfirmed speculation. If you have to flame me go ahead I R noob.

- We don't know
- My understanding is you set up the battle regimen beforehand and then just push the GO button
- Because they're classes
- 15 is the size limit for a single party
- We don't know
- We don't know
- Don't think of classes as direct extensions of FFXI's jobs, they're different games, lancer is lancer
- Probably
- We don't know
- We don't know
- Staff and Bow are different classes that are not Lancer
- We don't know
- Sept 22 is for the collector's edition, and what missing functions are you talking about?
- Unlikely
- We don't know

I don't think there's mog houses
No idea about the skillchains
Because crafts are their own classes in this game
What are raids? (All I've heard about grouping size is "up to 15")
I don't think so on the "competitive team games"
Guessing from the way they're expanding on crafts, I think the fishing will be an even more elaborate mini game this time around(more speculation though)
No pet classes so far...
What are raids?
Don't think there's voice chat
Switching weapons as a Lancer would result in you no longer being a Lancer
SE likes to be secretive
What missing functions? Sept. 22nd it is...
Not sure on the last 2

I'll answer what I can from what I've gleaned.

Smokefox wrote:
- why are crafting professions listed as "classes?"

Because that is exactly what they are. Crafting is no longer a "secondary" skill. You level your Leatherworker like you level your Gladiator.

Smokefox wrote:
- I see "Lancer" has replaced "dragoon" will there be no pet? Or wait for expansion?

There is no 1-to-1 correlation of any of the jobs. Some of the abilities are still sprinkled throughout, but the concept of the jobs as it was in FFXI is no more. Currently, there are no pet classes whatsoever. I would expect that to change at some point, but no one knows when.

Smokefox wrote:
- I assume Ninja, Bard, Samurai, Summoner will be in expansions?

See above.

Smokefox wrote:

Your equipped weapon determines your current class, so if you equip a bow, you are now an Archer. If you equip a staff, you are now a Conjurer (I think, maybe Thaumaturge).

Smokefox wrote:
- Why is the FFXIV website so terrible? It barely shows anything - are there plans for a better website?

Because that's all the current info that is out there. I would assume a more informative site at release.

Smokefox wrote:

Yes, the 22nd is still release for the collector's edition. What missing functions do you mean? Seems like a pretty filled in game at this point to me.

Granted a lot of these questions are in relation to FFXI, but... doesn't this seem like a lot of unknowns?

Can anyone in Beta at least reveal if some of these are answered?* No idea if that would break the NDA too...

*Edit: Not the answers themselves, but IF they are answered.

The amount of "I don't knows" doesn't concern me because I'm sure some could be better answered by testers and some of those questions could be lumped into one big question: "Why isn't FF14 like XI & other mmos?" I think some of those missing things, if not in the game, are probably taken care of by new methods of fulfilling the same purpose, or they're not necessary in this game. Also the final product can be different from what's being played now, so it's still either speculation or "I don't know."

Ty Locke, there are things missing ... or things they are still hiding from us. Perhaps the NDA is in effect for some of these things...

But to answer the general question, raids are large scale battles popular in other MMO's that involve 20-60 players fighting together in one dungeon or against super big bosses. I'm surprised SE hasn't gone all in on raids. They are popular, challenging and require team work to win.

At nearly 30 days out, there should be more bragging on the website, mostly listing the new features. I see the updates about "Linkshell now in game" etc. etc. but that's not a lot of time to:

Improve
Implement
Playtest
de-bug

any ~new~ features which makes me think they are stripping old code and dropping it in...

I'm glad we are seeing some familiar core features, but wheres the new stuff? I did see the fisherman class does get "spear fish" - which is awesome sure, but this is starting to look like a little strange...

- no pvp? (consensual or battleground or dueling?) "how will i defend my honor?"
- 40 man raids are common place in many current and future MMOs.
- Customizeable UI? I mean with 3rd party applications. I like the clean look, but in today's world we like things like damage meters and healing meters and such. Preferably with colored graphs and pie charts.
- few guild features like guild bank or halls? DDO has airships and its a FREE game.

So ontop of the things missing ... I guess I'm just hungry for any new "news" which may alleviate some of my concerns. Don't get me wrong I'm going all in on this one, but it would be cool to have some newer features that are popular and successful. At least see SE tease us.

There are other sites that have interpreted the news as meaning the NDA is partially lifted and have started posting more information, including things that need work. I'd recommend checking those out if you want a bit more. From what I've read (really hope this is allowed) it seems like only 10% of the game content is actually being tested right now. A lot of things are still getting worked on - classes are unbalanced, there are a lot of bugs, and the UI itself might still be a placeholder. The majority of opinions I've read say "It's gorgeous, it has potential, but it needs a lot of work." The opinions are varying on whether, with around 40 days left, the amount of work is less than or more than normal for new MMOs.

As far as I know, the NDA is still in effect for everything. I won't believe otherwise until I see it either on the official Twitter feed, or the ZAM admins have confirmed it through SE.

Smokefox wrote:

FFXI is a very team-oriented game, even in PvP (Ballista & Brenner). Some of that mentality will likely carry over to FFXIV, even though it's more solo friendly. I never understood the need to duel other than the fact that it just seems like a big e-peen contest. Being the best at PvP isn't going to get you a raise at work, a better car, or make your significant other any more attractive. To me, striving to be the best at whatever I'm doing in an MMO doesn't involve dueling.

SE has stated that they don't want PvP in their game, there might be some sort of event-based PvP like Ballista in FFXI but I wouldn't hold my breath for anything amazing in this field.. it isn't really their thing

FFXI had Dynamis which I think is as close as they ever got to an actual raid.. Einherjar was close but the scale was a bit small. I'd be very very surprised if something similar didn't end up being in FFXIV eventually, but as it stands we have no information about the endgame content either present or planned

Allowing 3rd party apps or applets to customize a UI is actually pretty unusual due to the possibilities for massive cheatyface. WoW allows it because Blizzard implemented their own scripting language that limits what a mod developer can do and then they also police them pretty closely, I'd be very surprised if SE went to the trouble of doing this especially considering the difficulties it would cause for PS3 players

Just because another game has something doesn't mean all future games will implement it. A lot of companies don't like the idea of guild halls for instance because it can make cities feel abandoned. I do think the idea of a guild bank is a good one, most high-end FFXI linkshells ended up having to make some arcane arrangements for LS mules that someone at some point was paying extra money for. It wasn't really a good system and it wouldn't surprise me if they implemented some form of guild bank system, if not at launch then later

A lot of your questions, if not all of them, can be answered from various interviews with SE. For example here:

http://www.ffxivcore.com/topic/1598-follow-up-answers-from-the-interview-with-ffxiv-producer-hiromichi-tanaka/

But it seems that you're looking for issues with the game rather than looking for answers for those questions.

To be fair, killing crabs for days on end likely won't either ;-)

But I agree, FFXI was always a team-oriented game. I believe the devs from Square said they don't plan on having any kind of PvP at first. If PvP is your cup of tea, there are plenty of other games that cater significantly or exclusively to that aspect!

I'm not in beta and haven't agreed to anything with SE, but here are some things I've heard that may or may not be true.

Smokefox wrote:

Ok so in no particular order...

- Will there be housing again?
Not yet.

- Are we really "stuck" if the 3rd or 4th guy doesn't do his part of the chain combo?
Everyone solos so... dunno.

- why are crafting professions listed as "classes?"
Dumb question.

- Are we really limited to 15 people for Raids and large scale battles?
yes.

- Are there competitive team games? Like the Rook game or the giant water ball from 12?
not yet.

- Will the fishing mechanic still be "mini-game" unto itself or be the suck from wow?
mini game

- I see "Lancer" has replaced "dragoon" will there be no pet? Or wait for expansion?
Lancers don't have pets yet.

- I assume Ninja, Bard, Samurai, Summoner will be in expansions?
Assume whatever you want.

- Will there be any large scale raids planned?
None at this time.

- integrated voicechat or still need seperate software like vent?
no voice chat yet.

- If Lancer fights from the 2nd rank, can they use any other weapon? Staff? Bow (or is that too close?)
Maybe. Gladiator for example can use daggers and swords.

- Why is the FFXIV website so terrible? It barely shows anything - are there plans for a better website?
Ask SE's web developers... how the **** is anyone here supposed to know? Dumb question.

- Is the Sept 22 release date still on? How can they release with so many missing functions?
Yes.

- Will there be linkshell house, stronghold, airship? (DDO has airships), or guild bank/storage?
Not yet. Maybe company bank.

- Will the rare item/spawn camping be fixed?
As of now there is nothing to camp for rare items.

Yeah I was just having fun with ya about the Raids, I'm not an mmo player, just a final fantasy player who also plays the FF mmos...
If you played XI any, you know there was very little PvP, I'm sure FFXIV will be similar...no word on it yet, but maybe some optional PvP planned for later?
Again, there were some end-game things that required lots of players in XI, no idea about XIV endgame
SE isn't too big on 3rd party software, sure wasn't with XI...wouldn't expect them to change much
14 has linkshells like XI, but also companies that may have some advanced features

For the sake of argument:

1) Why can't I put my cat in the microwave?
2) I left my dog in a hot car for two hours and the police got really mad at me, why?
3) Should I let my 1 month old baby swim in a lake unattended?
4) Some guy is standing on the side of the road with a shotgun, a machete, and a ski mask; I should just assume his car broke down and give him a ride, right?
5) If I pick my nose and then show it to people, they'll think I'm cool, right?
6) I take naps at work and slap female coworkers' asses all the time and I got fired and have no idea why! Do you think I could sue?
7) I have some Miracle Gro that looks like blue kool-aid, but I'm out of blue kool-aid. When my son's friends are over, I can give them Miracle Gro, since it's basically the same thing. They'll just grow big and strong sooner, right?
8) I've had some milk in my fridge for about two months. It's rather lumpy, but I like lumpy oatmeal, so I would be fine using it for oatmeal, right?
9) If I have *** while pregnant, can my unborn child get pregnant too?
10) Why can't I drive on the other side of the highway? Those cars look like they're going way faster.

so in summary, yes, some questions ARE dumb.

1: You can, just don't be surprised at the results
2: You should ask them
3: Probably not
4: Definitely
5: Some of them might
6: Y'know... you probably could... sigh
7: I wonder if Miracle Gro has a warning label that says it isn't to be substituted for Kool-Aid, you may have a case here
8: Go for it, be next to a phone
9: Ahh the mysteries of life
10: You can, just don't be surprised at the results

I understand your point in trying to demonstrate stupid questions, but these all fall into what I'd call "common sense." While some people lack it, most don't (hence the common part). None of the OP's questions were common sense related and thus there was no reason for Malevolent to troll him like that

Really? Asking a forum of video gamers why Square Enix's web site is so terrible and if they plan to update it is not a complete lack of common sense? The first part of the question is completely based on opinion, and the answer to the second part is obviously "probably"... Common sense.

And asking why crafting professions are listed as classes is like asking why a cow moos. It just is...

There was no trolling in my post. I answered his questions truthfully as far as I know with no intention of stirring up drama or flame wars, and you chose to focus on dumb questions and ignore any useful information. GG.

I'm only ganna comment on the raid question/comment;
This is SE and without a doubt I'm expecting some of the epicest endgame battle to date on any MMO out they rise the bar in FFXI with the open world raids..

Anyone remember vrtra? Remember how freaking epic that battle was when it came out.. I sure remember wiping out and delvling before stragity was out online..

Or VA? Has it been beating yet?!? How about that epic linkshell that battle pom (sorry so t remeneber HNM name) 18hour str8 with a whole FFXI Community backing them up.. Stuff like that why I love ffxi endgame and damnit I can't wait for does epic battle in ffxiv /cheer

FFXI open world endgame was soo much better then this whole "instance" movement on current mmorg.. I hope ffxiv stay true to it root and go open world

To be fair, I really don't care for the FFXIV official site. Even after looking at it, I had no idea what the game contained besides amazing graphics. I had to come to the forums to start and get a grasp on it, and even now details are super sketchy at best.

His tone could use a make-over, though.

I can't argue with you, the main site kinda sucks and only provides the most basic information in the world.

My objection was with his tone, calling the OP's question dumb wasn't necessary and isn't the accepted norm on Zam

Eh, I dislike the fact that it has to load the flash movie intro and start playing music before it lets me click on anything. It -is- admittedly not very informative, although you still have to admit that coming to an XIV forum and complaining about the XIV site is flamebait, if unintentional.

You have obviously never read the FFXI boards.

Not since I quit a few years ago after playing for 4 years.

You seem to be telling me it's devolved into a flamefest like the WoW official boards or others along those lines, and I find that sad.

I choose not to encourage such an atmosphere for FFXIV

Completely agree. Disingenuous at best, troll at worst!

And despite the harsh words at times, it's kinda nice to see that it really hasn't devolved to name-calling and karma wars. So far I'm liking these forums a lot!

I certainly hope the bar isn't that low for flamebait. If we're so easily annoyed that a perfectly valid criticism - not even of the game, but of the game's website - can be seen as a troll attempt, then this community isn't half as good as I thought it was. Especially when it was a minor point thrown in as an aside.

I didn't see it as flame bait either. It was simply a dumb question. Hey guys, why does SE's website suck, and will they ever update it?

Seriously? If anyone thinks that's a good question, maybe s/he is dumb.

I Like you have many of the same questions if not similar to the ones you have posted.
1. I wonder this myself, seeing as Carpenter is a class and they make furniture I would assume it will be there but want official confirmation.
2. I hope they have chain combos again cause I thought it was fun to do but haven't heard anything whether or not they are included.
3. That is the route they went this time around what I would like to know is if we can max out all of the Crafting Classes this time around or if they are going to restrict it like on XI.
4. I thought Dynamis from XI had a good amount I've never cared to much about mass amounts of people doing stuff I like to see my character doing damage not have 10 bodies blocking my view and just doing whatever I'm supposed to. I would like if they had something like that again.
5. This doesn't matter to me really.
6. I hope they keep it somewhat similar or make it more involved, I'm hoping mining and harvesting are also more involved. Can't wait to learn more.
7. I'm hoping eventually they release some pet jobs since I really enjoy them and I think Summoner should be included since it's been a major FF role for many games in the series. Wouldn't mind seeing others return from XI (Puppetmaster, Beastmaster and Dragoon) I'm thinking maybe an expansion if at all.
8. Ninja, Bard, Samurai, Corsair, Dancer, Scholar, Blue Mage I'm hoping make some form of return to XIV. XI had 4 expansions so I think we could see many ideas added down the road expansion wise I just hope we don't have to wait 2-3 years to see them.
9. Like I said in 4. Hopefully they go with that route and size of group.
10. Voicechat I honestly could care less about. I know many people like it but for me it's frustrating when you get someone who just loves to hear themselves talk which in turn ruins the whole idea of it for me even if the option to mute them is there. I'm content with the good ol keyboard. As far as SE stand on it I think they had said somewhere that it would be to hard to impliment cross platform chat for PS3-PC so it's unlikely.
11. I'm going to go with Polearm types only if you wanted another style of weapon your looking to play another class.
12. I don't like the vid playing all the time in the background and for the most part I didn't think XI had that great of a site so I don't see an amazing site coming out for XIV just my opinion though maybe they will suprise me.
13. As far as I know it is on and I can't wait order computer parts to build my computer just waiting for delivery so I can get it going before the 22nd. I'm super stoked and getting more and more impatient the closer it gets I think Gamescon (if any new info is realeased) is going to make me even more anxious.
14. I think it would be great if they had a Linkshell/Company bank for items and currency could care less about having there own base of operation though pick a city and a place in that city to meet up and there you go.
15. Only thing I would like changed is I want all these items to be rare/ex unless you do BCNM type things. If you can't sell the items the mob will be camped a lot less I think. Most bots/people camped NM's just to make money from the drop. If people want to sell it then they should run a BCNM with some people and test there luck that way and make that version able to be sold.

Other things I want to know about:
1. Missions/Quests/Reputation - Will we have them or is Guildleve the only thing implimented
2. Auction Houses/Economy - I love the idea of the retainers I'm glad SE has implimented that I just want to know if they are still going to include Auction Houses and if they will be Local or Global. I also want to know if junk items will see at a descent amount when sold to a vendor. Gil was somewhat hard to come by in XI which created a huge timesink of farming.

I think that pretty much sums it up there might be more but I can't think of any. As for people saying you had some dumb questions they are things you want to know and they should be a little more polite in there responses. If I think a question is dumb I'm not going to say that's dumb more or less would post that would be up to so and so or some other answer.
