I don't understand the complaining...

We all know the keys are gone within 2 minutes, we all know you don't have enough time to fill out the subscription form before the keys are gone, we all know a mobile phone won't be fast enough to secure a key, but folks still complain about not getting one when they aren't near their PC the second the tweet goes out? We all know what you need to do for a beta key in this event, so why are people still acting surprised?

I had my phone with me all day and my PC logged onto Fileplanet. As soon as I got the tweet on my phone I walked into my office and clicked the button and got my key. No camping the PC for hours on end, just understanding how it worked and making appropriate arrangements.

That about summarize your post? Got it.

Yeah crappy... I'm in Seoul so I set my alarm for 5am. Woke up and said the same message as yesterday I refreshed twitter and it said they are up so I went back to file planet low and behold it asked me to log in. Then it says I have two accounts on file so I picked one then my proxy failed and gave me a 404 error... No key :( if cookies were enabled I'd have one.

It would be interesting to find out how many new FP subscribers pay for another month and/or how many long term subscribers cancelled...from all the rants at their forums...my guess it is going to be a net loss of subscribers.
Sunday's batch seem to have been snatched up in about 30 seconds.

From what I have been reading...the current Beta still has a lot more "polishing" to do before Retail...especially when it comes to the UI.

Unless you're subscribing yearly (and there really doesn't seem to be a reason to do so), pretty much everyone I know who subscribes to fileplanet, only pays for one month at a time, and only when something they want comes around that they need the subscription for (last thing I used it for was a Star Trek Online beta... best decision ever because **** was that game awful... retail release didn't improve it any either).

Fileplanet always seems to be bending gamers over for something. I used to have a sub but I refused to renew it even for a key to FFXIV. Once upon a time, you would get beta keys just for pre ordering or for subscribing... now you have to wait for a tweet and be some random number that happens to type the fastest or be in the right place at the right time.

Like Charlie buying chocolate bars... the whole beta key process has become a fiasco.

Yeah, I just think it's a horribly greedy cashgrab.

I still don't support the idea of chargebacks but honestly, I half feel they kinda deserve it, illegal or not.

If everyone is just mashing F5, that might be the reason they aren't succeeding. Refreshing the 'sorry all the keys are gone' page probably won't get the job done, as if you look at the URL it even has something about being unsuccessful in it..

To get mine I'd press backspace, then click, (rinse lather repeat 15 times until glorious victory)

I don't understand why complainers are complaining about the ones complaining over FFXIV beta keys at fileplanet. Some people have this quite common word known as a... *Gasp* job! Some of us go to school, to college, etc. We cannot sit and "farm" a beta key like some other *possibly* unemployed, uneducated players or would be players of FFXIV. I'm sorry about that.

This was quite unnecessary and frankly egotistical when you think about it. My friend got a key and he works all day basically, it happened to fall during his break time.

So the "I work and go to school" is no excuse, some people can get it some can't..simple as that.

I'm unemployed thanks to the market in my area completely crashing, have a BA and am working on my MA. Please don't be an ignorant, stereotypical douche. Putting quotes around a word doesn't make you sound any less like an asshole.

Maybe instead of farming for beta keys you should go out and look for a d@mn job if you're unemployed. Shocking I know.

Sorry if I went through my response to the guy bashing people that couldn't wait for keys all day the wrong way, but some people have other priorities and that is all I was trying to state.

One way to get around the 'cant fill out form in time", is have signed up for a beta before. By doing that, it auto-populates your dob, name, etc, into the form, so all you do is check "I accept", and hit submit.

But yes, the rush is a bit insane.. sunday's keys ( which is when I got mine ), were gone in 30 seconds.

Correct me if this doesn't make sense. It seems like fileplanet has had their batch of keys this whole time and is releasing them in waves. If that was the case then the last wave meant to go out today would still go out. If they are literally receiving new keys daily from Square then I guess we may be SOL.

Maybe fileplanet just sucks at communicating.

There's really no way of telling. S-E have possibly been giving FP batches daily, and with current server stability issues have halted, it just happened to be on the final day. Or, FP may have them, and are just holding out until the last possible minute.

I'm guessing S-E has kept good control over the Beta and have halted any new members until they get this resolved.

According to a source of mine, Fileplanet actually BOUGHT the keys from SE at the last minute, and as part of the deal had SE delay releasing the keys to the other sites until their 'contest' was over.

FP should at least change their message from "Wow those keys went fast but we'll have more tomorrow" (or w/e it says) to something like hey we can't give any out today. At least it will keep people from waiting for nothing...

This.

FP used the beta keys to make a profit from it's services. They asked SE to delay all the other giveaways for this reason.

You say Smiley: tinfoilhat but I'm not entirely convinced it isn't the truth. Isn't it entirely coincidental that all of teh giveaways were scheduled to end on the 11th, suddenly three sites get no keys and File planet shows up selling keys offering free keys for members and their giveaway coincidentally ends on teh same day the giveaways were repositioned to?

And someone mentioned in IRC that the EU players got their P3 keys already. It's just us silly NAs who will get our keys "whenever the **** SE gets around to sending them out".

Smiley: tinfoilhat it may be, but a stopped clock is still right twice a day, man.

Ya know I saw my wrong and tried to apologize even though someone also stated I was an ignorant stereotypical douche. But I guess two wrongs make a right. I still believe most people farming the keys are ones in those two categories but that is just my opinion; I got a little heated I understand. I guess the hundreds of people being a **** to Fileplanet trying to get their money back for a membership they paid for are better people than me. So you are condoning illegal activity, but once someone gets a little snappy on someone on ZAM I get whatever the heck scholar status is and my rating taken away. Smooth.

Or it could be server issues like they said Smiley: smile

Either way, the fact is the keys aren't here yet, and even if SE did this on purpose you all will still play this game Smiley: nod

I was reading through and I didn't see anything with any remorse for what you said. Personally, I work 8am-5pm everyday Mon-Fri and I got a key from FP. It was as simple as sending FP tweets to my phone. I got a text msg saying they were going to be up soon, I spent like a minute or so hitting get key and viola I got my key (on a saturday).

So it's not likely that only people without a job can get a key.

Oh I apologized to the first response I made. My bad. I understand I was a bit harsh but I had a **** job having to unload oil drums from a semi that was a 130 degrees 10 hours a day this summer and wish I had the opportunity to get a key like everyone else. Sorry if I get a little heated in my arguments I just went off of my person experience that I couldn't get a beta key. Just because I had a job (no job anymore going back to Purdue soon) that didn't permit me usage on a computer, it doesn't mean other's don't have that opportunity. I understand.

  • They're saying they may release keys today sometime up to 9pm PST. Failing that they'll be releasing them after 8am PST tomorrow.
  • This is all dependent on when Square Enix gives them the keys/go ahead
  • There will be 5-10 minutes of notice on their twitter page
  • Number of keys will be 10+
