Can I Salvage this PC?Follow

I'm considering buying or building a new computer, but I was wondering if I could build off of my old one to play ffxiv.
Basically it is a Dell XPS Gen 3 that I bought in late 2004.

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.2 GHz
Radeon X800 SE
1 GB RAM

I'm new at this, but is there anything else you would need to know? I know I could add more RAM and change the video card, but I don't want to buy some new things to experiment and then find out there is some sort of compatibility issue with this old PC and the motherboard or something.
Thanks for your input!

I had a similar system and it wouldn't even run the FFXIV benchmark.

My advise would be to start from scratch and build a new PC.

Honestly, no.
You're gonna need a new computer to play FFXIV.
There's plenty of threads on the first 2 pages of this forum you can read for advice on how to go about that to meet the requirements for this game.

Edit: please don't buy a prebuilt Dell or HP computer to play this game

Yup, definitely going to need to rebuild.

Well, you could possibly keep some of your old system, namely the case, DVD, hard drive, floppy drive, and MAYBE the power supply. Everything else needs to go.

You might be able to salvage the case, the hard drive, and the optical drive (if it's a DVD-ROM or better).

The motherboard, processor, GPU, RAM, and likely PSU are all going to need to be replaced.

I can think of a few ways, but they all require 1500 Assault Points.

Hi-

I have system somewhat similar to yours. I posted the exact specs in a thread about minimum system requirements. I don't remember the specific thread and, for some reason, am unable to search for it using the search function on this site?!

I had the Intel 3.2 with 2 gigabytes of ram with a Radeon HD 3850 graphics card. I scored a 1212 on low and 1057, iirc, on high.

The nice people here assured me it would not run this game(FFXIV) and that the only parts that might be re-used were the 560 watt power supply and the case.

Hope that helps you.

Dude, build a new PC. The first step is determining how much you want to spend. Once you have that figured out go here

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/forum-31-322.html

and the polite folks at toms will suggest the best build for your budget.

No hope. Plan a budget for a new PC and ask in the sticky what you can get for the money.

Build your own.
