Short answer: Greed.

Long answer: Its all a quick cash grab. If they were an honest site, they would have given them out to existing subscribers already. By holding them, they are teasing possible new income, which is further obvious by removing their 1-mo sub option during this event. It's despicable what they are doing, IMO. Hopefully they don't sucker in any more desperate people.

The page everyone else is when they try to get the key, this is where the month was removed.

That strikes me as very deceitful, especially since it says the monthly fee large and the actual charge significantly smaller under it.

Sorta like those "FIVE DOLLAR ANY* FOOTLONG!

does not include 80% of our menu

They are definitely trying to con people into getting a 3 month subscription. That's all there is to it. And it is quite sad that they are getting away with this stuff because there are going to be a lot more people that don't get one than do.

Why dont Square-Enix remove all the beta keys from them and give it to another site. It is disgusting.

The thing is,there are many people that have been FP subscribers for month's/years.The fact that they're putting the 3mo. sub model up is to create an obstacle for the $7 and out crowd. This then allows for the dedicated subs to have a better chance.

You can be upset, but it actually makes it more fair to the people that have used FP for a while.

Because SE is a business too. I imagine they're all benefiting from these "deals" they make with one another. When Square became Enix, the soul was ripped from the company imo.

You work for fileplanet don't you? your first post on ZAM couldn't be further from the truth. The entire thing is a scam to get people to sign up, they cash in on it big time within 5 or 6 days and some people get out of it with a key. The thing is, if they cared that their "loyal" subs get the key they would've done what every other site has been doing and handed them out - what they did instead is start off by spreading this over a period of 5 or 6 days or whatever, they allotted a random time slot each day for the key giveaway, meanwhile hoping word of mouth spreads and they get more subs with each day (and they have been)...If they changed the subscription to 3 months to push away newcomers they wouldn't still have monthly fee of $5 something in big bold letters while under it in tiny font they hide the fact that while the monthly fee itself isn't too bad you're agreeing on atleast 3 months here...sorry man, this is a scam if I've ever seen one. I fell for it, and I'll be there tomorrow trying to get my key, and after I do, I'm calling my bank and saying my CC was charged illegally so I get my $6 back.

I'm pretty sure scamming a scammer is illegal.

I don't condone what FP is doing and think it's a crock of **** to sell beta keys like this; it's like the people who sell index cards, and they "just happened" to write their account name and password on that index card.

But at the same time, I'm pretty sure that this is bank fraud and you can get slapped with fines and/or jail time if your bank finds out.

Please,I stated that cause of the whiners.
If you actually read the FP links and such it said very limited,so there wasn't enough keys to even just give out to the founders, give me a break! If there was enough to just hand them out to subs they would have.Peeps want to jump on FP without actually thinking about what the offer and links say.

If you truly want to be a FP sub and have a better shot you would sub for 1 month when the FFXiv keys aren't up and take your chances lol.I've read post's stating the 1mo. offer is there when the keys aren't up.

No, this isn't the case here. I explained to you what it was...okay, forget calling it a scam, its a market ploy - they word their statements properly so as to trick people into joining - now it was clear to me there was a limited amount but the last bid was on for 2 seconds before all keys were unavailable, that, imo is way too limited. Plus, my previous post was just saying that they're advertising it so they can cash in on it short time here - if they wanted to give them out to their subs they could've done just that without spreading it over 5 days or however many days they're doing this...just saying...this doesn't depend on how many keys they have but rather how ZAM is doing it for example, at random to their subs. This is a quick cash in and nothing else.

@Makaila i'm an honest person, I would never do that although I said I would lol :P...I don't think I've even stolen in a candy bar in my life so don't worry I wont be spending time in jail anytime soon - atleast not for fraud - maybe murder if I run into FPs staff :D jk FP staff you guys can relax.

I think what they're doing is deceitful as well, but I think it's for publicity if anything on SE's part.
Unless I'm missing something the keys are $7 and FP has to make a profit off of that, how many could they have possibly sold. I just don't think SE would go out of their way to set up such an elaborate plan when all they have to do is release more $10 expansions with movement speed equipment.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

EDIT: I completely agree about Enix btw.
The gimmicky FFX-2 that made up for FFX's ending, the increased grinding in FFXI and FFXII (I had a hard time with gil in 12 idk why.), and the very linear FFXIII. All of these games had their good points but seemed to experience higher levels of fail than their predecessors.

I just don't want to see you get a huge fine or jail time over 7 bucks :)

If people were obsessed enough for a beta key that they would subscribe to a service for only that reason, I say they deserve to be scammed. Perhaps they're trying to take advantage of you, but you're trying to take advantage of them for the key. Sounds perfectly fair to me...

EDIT
Maybe "deserve" isn't the right word there. But you are kind of asking for it. People are willing to go to great lengths for a beta key. They know this and take advantage of it to profit and bring in more traffic. That's not cheating, that's smart. Only difference between them and zam, eorzapedia, etc. is that money is for sure involved.

Illegal or not, nobody is going to take the time to fight with a credit card company over a matter of $7. Sure, if they REALLY wanted to push it, they could. . . .but within the first 10 minutes you've already spent WAY more than $7.

Immoral? Maybe. Chances of getting in trouble over it? Negligible.

Don't worry he won't this happens all the time. The company says they gave a certain service and the customer says they didn't receive the service in the manner promised. The customer has 30 days from the date of the statement with the charge on it to stop in at their bank and file a dispute. The dispute goes to VISA or whatever and they basically decide who they think is telling the truth and make a decision as to who gets the money. I've NEVER seen anything done to a customer or any penalties applied for filing any dispute. Of course sometimes they believe the merchant don't give the money back.

There's nothing wrong with filing a dispute if you really didn't get what you were promised when you made the purchase. In this particular case it would be a toss up. Technically you may get your "chance" at a key but my sticking point is it's north america only and so far every key release has been too early in the day for most working people and students to have any chance at all. I've also seen rumors that they're releasing an extremely small number of keys that in my opinion take it from limited to more like a minuscule or infinitesimal chance.

It would probably come down to how many people are filing complaints against them. Say if you were at Citibank or Bank of America chances are there will be multiple disputes on the same item and if you have multiple people calling it a scam then chances are they'll believe it.

Of course, all of this hinges on how much trouble $6.95 is worth to you and Fileplanet is betting the answer is, not much.

my point was, all the sites have the beta pushed back till today
and they are giving the keys out BEFORE that, is like "OH IM HAVING THIS THING BEFORE THEY DO!! COME GET IT but you have to be a subsriber first, no not a member, subsriber is different and you pay only a few bucks"
