So beta testers are you able to kill other players or is this not a option in FFXIV?

currently though you can MPK by getting an aggressive creature to chase you and timing it to disengage near someone else.

Not PvP, but killing people with unintended mechanics, such as BSTs back in FFXI.

Like PK as in training mobs onto people or similar methods? As we all know there's no PvP activities yet (I'm hoping for nothing further ever than Ballista like events personally) but I would also assume that they learned their lessons from XI and BST PKs along with Training... though I really do miss trains... some times.

Yeah, PK is usually a side effect from PvP, MPK however is a general way, so you can't technically PK someone unless the term changed in the last 15 years D:

monsters wont trail you for long in this game.. 20seconds from the moment you enter passive mode (havent tested running away while still in active mode...) and from what i've currently seen they've been designed to be easy to lose. so it makes MPK alot harder

POST EDIT

i believe any adds to the main mob you pulled will disengage from you regardless when you start running, so trailing a group should be near impossible.

Or training the entire basement of GarlaigeCitadel onto whoever was fighting Serket. The MPK patch ruined so many good times.

But ya there was nothing quite like zoning into Crawler's Nest and being instantly dead on top of dozens of other corpses. Maybe it's just me, but I always laughed at that stuff and found it fun.

Correction about monsters trailing you. They will follow you so long as you dont go into town. I've had a goat chase me, so i kept running. He followed me all the way across the entire map. By entire map, I mean up past the woods and around down through beardrock, then up to the skullbone place. Scared me to have a red mob that i've seen eat noobs for breakfast follow me for that long. thought I aggroed it.

MetalSmith Goats do not aggro but they follow, and they follow for a long time.

Mobs will follow for 20 seconds once you disengage then turn around, if its guildleve doesnt matter anyway you cant train them, they also never ever give up most of the time (some harder ones will like dodos).

If you grab a mob and die next to someone to PK or manage to let it go at the right time, it will nto aggro, it will head back to its original spawn point at a higher movement speed (you'll of seen dodos booting it across the map, or thorned flowers).

At current you cannot PK.

I like this a lot better than despawning. +1 SE.

I'm confused. player killing, pvp. There's a difference?

Killing another player or player versus player... I don't get it.

That was me being sarcastic in an attempt to educate. There is no difference. PK=player killing is just one type of pvp=player vs. player.

Thank goodness that SE is stubborn and sticks to it's guns in some things because I, for one, do not want much, preferably none at all, PvP in my Final Fantasy. There are F2P MMOs that do PvP better than FF ever could anyways, so why unbalance the legacy?

Nothing can ***** up a gaming session quite like a 10 year old running slaughter mode across a zone because he/she is on summer vacation, maxed the character due to too much free time, has nothing better to do, and feels like being an asshat.

Judging by the poll results and recent quotes about PVP from SE, I'm sure we're going to see it down the road soon in some form of an arena. ;)

I'm ok with that. I'm just worried that adding PvP will create a need to readjust the classes for balance suited to PvP instead of PvE.

If they can create acceptable duel/arena style PvP without messing with my open world PvE balance I'm cool with that.

What quotes from SE indicate that they plan to add any PvP at all? They've been anti-PvP for as long as I can remember. I'd like to see a source on this.

In one of the interviews they talked about the possibility of adding some PvP type events later on. Such as ballista, etc.

It's been debated before, and I'm under the impression that instead of simply saying "No, there are no intentions for PvP in this game", they say "We have no plans for PvP at this time, but it may be a possibility in the future". Simply because they don't like to say "No", but it usually has the same meaning.

Here you go, my good sir.

What about PVP?

We have the same stance on PVP as we had in FFXI, we're having a focus on PVE, but we may introduce some sort of sports-type that might be tied to PVP in the future. What we're worrying about is that we dont want to have any PK'ing or harassment types of activities in the game. So in order to provide a safe environment to everyone and a game to enjoy. So we're not focusing on PVP.

You're correct that "There are no intentions at this time" or "It may be a possibility" is pretty much a "no" for exactly the reason you said; the Japanese don't like saying "no" to a question because they believe it dishonors the person asking it.

Conversely, the Japanese LOVE saying yes whenever possible. Again, it's a cultural thing. Japanese frequently put others before themselves in terms of dealings because they want to come to an agreement that will make the other party happy, so if something can be done, they are very eager to tell you that it can.

That's why unless they specifically say "yes, this WILL happen", it's pretty much a no. They might change their mind in the future, but anything other than a yes is a no.

Thanks for the link. :)

EDIT: Actually this is my first time seeing this interview at all, it's a good read. Rate up for showing it to me.
