The Matron, as I plan on being a Pugilist, which has an earth based attack. I also plan on doing Botany, and woodcraft, and that seems to fit too.

Yeah if I choose Thaliak I may specialize in water-based attacks - if elemental affinity is not something we can choose to reassign at will

I found both of these here. It would seem they dug it up at FFXIVCore.

I'm thinking Rhalgr is my top choice for now, seems to go with thaumaturge and I dig a potential bonus to thunder magic. Other options would be Nymeia if I decide to focus more on weaving and Nald'thal because I like fire & money...

Has there been any news as to the benefits that each guardian brings? It would be nice to know what each brings to the table other than what their description says.

I am guessing it has something to do with elemental affinities given that each guardian is linked to an element - but that is pure speculation on my part. I doubt we will know till well after release if SE's past behaviour is anything to go by

It's tough to say with much certainty at present, but probably Halone. Seems to be a good fit for a Lancer. Though if one god turns out to be of particular use for healers (perhaps Thaliak?) I may go with that.

Halone maybe, 3 lances goes great with laner! Same reason as Eske. I've always like the sound effects for casting ice spells in all of FF games. It's like listening to windchimes

Perhaps there will be a storyline for all of this? They seem to be the only two rivals. Would explain why SE has been so mum on the point thus far.

likely althyk, the keeper. he uses a great axe, and my theory personally is that the weapon of choice that a guardian uses reflects the class that said guardian is the "patron" or "matron" of.

also great axes are awesome.

For now I'd have to go with Oschon, the Wanderer as he seems the best for Archers. But that could change as I'm not sure on which job I want to start now.

I'm going with one of the ice ones, don't really care if there's benefit or not. I usually just go with what's I like and let the chips fall where they may (which is why I maxed tailoring on my Hunter in WoW, flying carpet FTW!).

I figure if people shun me for not maxing out every single itty bitty point then I wouldn't want to be around them anyway.

Well, it's in the Wikibase. Information on the gods has been public knowledge for a while, and it's something that you'll see right at character creation. Shouldn't spoil much, unless you don't want to know anything about the game before you play it (but then I'd say that it's not a very good idea for you to browse the forums at all Smiley: tongue).

Certainly! Being such a popular and handsome fellow, I've naturally had quite a few requests for my server of choice. Smiley: waycool

I'll PM everyone once my LS determines where it'll be. Just need SE to confirm the server names...

So far, I seem to be the only person going with Llymlaen. It fits for me; I'm going to be a Fisher, starting in Limsa Lominsa, and her wielding a harpoon seems to fit both spearfishing and Lancer. After all, what is a harpoon but another form of spear?

I think I'm doing the same. I normally would have opted to play a THF like class, but since there doesn't seem to be one, I think I will go for Lancer, even though I've never even unlocked DRG in FFXI. I also plan on fishing a fair deal, so it seems like a good fit.

Halone's teacher is Oschon, who is the Husband of Menphina, who is the daughter of Althyk, who is the brother of Nymeia, who is the Master of Rhalgr, who is the father or Halone.

That's some trippy stuff. I'll most likely go with Oschon. A wanderer is a type of person I most often project myself onto, and the element of wind is one I find favorable.

Right now the hopes of some cool bonuses from the deities that match my intended class & craft are guiding my decision. Though Nald'thal still sounds cool from a RP standpoint. A greedy Hellsguard Roegadyn dumping all possible elemental stats into fire and calling upon his god to help him burn **** down...<fun><excitement>

I randomly ended up with Llymlaen on my first character and that is who I would have picked anyway. I took fishing to 100 on XI, and wind is my favorite element in general. I kind of hope these are more of a flavor text really, because I would like to be able to pick a guardian I like, not the one that best suited for a particular job.

Nobody has pointed out the difference in guardian favor?
I only know that Althyk gives you a bonus to skill points gained, and Llymlaen gives you extra time to complete the leve should you run out.

Initialy I am leaning towards Oschon as I have a thing for archers and rangers, though I have a few gripes.
Wind is my least favourite element, its almost like he is god of farts.
Rangers I associate as woodsman and one with nature so I would have thought Earth a better fit.
He is depicted as a ranger carrying a bow of yew, yet what do they choose for his, a walking stick!
He must throw his walking stick to the ground any time he actualy wants to use his bow.

Alternative thoughts are Althyk or Halone.

Althyk is associated with the 8th moon as am I, his element is earth my nature prefered ranger one, god of time which is pretty cool :)

Halone godess of war of carries a great shield, which seem fitting for gladiator which will be my main melee job.

Also do we know anymore aboutthese gaurdians, does the character moon and gaurdian moon matching have any effect?

I am thinking I may go with the money and fire god since I am looking to main goldmsith/thm/glad (with a dash of pug and con)

Although until release - I will probably continue to change my mind.

Actually more than anything this post made me consider the Traders though:

KindjalFerrer wrote:
Take the last few days of Beta and talk to the NPC's in Town and the Guilds. While the text on the character creation can give you a hint, it is not what it looks like at first.

I give you an example i found out myself:

Nald'thal The Trader (i hope i spelled it right)

Just going from the description on the character creation you might think this is the deity to choose if you mainly focus on crafting or playing a Merchant. The symbol is some ancient currency. Nald rules over the world of the living, and Thal keeps the realm of the dead.

This is actually the one you want to choose for your Thaumaturge. If you visit the guild in Ul'Dah you know why. Nald'thal is in fact 2 persons in one. Nald, the guardian of the earthly wealth and rich and Thal the guardian of the poor and death. Both together represent the aspects of a Thaumaturgs' spells and skills (light and dark your first two spells). The currency is a symbol of what you have to pay to cross over from live to death. You loose all earthly possessions.

I hope this gave you some ideas and encourages you to actually learn more about this world instead of just grinding guildleves. There is a rich and beautiful lore waiting for you to uncover.

PS: I did some testing with and without this guardian and as a THM or ARC, there are very obvious differences.
