Radeon HD 4200 manage this game at low without slowdowns (or at least minimal)? I ask because I have a stock system that I got a few months back and it's a decent machine (quad-core CPU/ 8 GB RAM/ 64-bit Win7 OS, so no other issues) but I know my GPU is going to handicap it. Yes I realize the logical decision is to upgrade, but I'm going to be on a tight budget for the next bit with classes starting up (I'm a hobo university student) and won't be able to drop the cash on an upgrade in the foreseeable future. For some reason I crash out the benchmark (despite updated drivers) but I have a suspicion my GPU is gonna kneecap my score anyway. Hoping I can play at release but if not, c'est la vie.

On a side note, I'm psyched about this game coming out. I used to play FFXI way back in the day but I quit during CoP days and jumped ship to WoW along with a few of my buddies (some of whom will actually be coming to FFXIV with me even). I was a WHM for said group of friends (although I did basically the FFXI equivalent of a reroll dropping my 5X RDM). It's nice to be lurking (and making the odd post) here again.

I'd say you'll run the game at 15fps max if at all. Maybe if you set the buffer size to 1/2 or 1/4... but then it'd be like playing UO.

What score do you get from the benchmark?

I can't get the benchmark to run (lol). It crashes out after I make my selections. My expectations aren't high, and I ran FFXI at release on a crapbox at 10-15 FPS, so it looks like I may be doing that again. Shame too because it's just my GPU holding it back, but oh well.

Try updating your drivers and all that stuff. If the benchmark is not even running, don't expect FFXIV to even load :(

Edit: Just read the rest of the thread. You might try installing DirectX9 and see if that helps.

This is what I had to install so that my wife's computer would run the beta, and then it did so surprisingly well considering she's on an X2 and an 8800 GTS (2500 low).

Yeah I did that. The problem is that it just up and dies with a Windows reporter, so eh. I'm no expert but I can generally tinker with stuff enough to make it work but no-go on the bench, yet anyway. Hopefully an open beta is in the works so I can see if it'll run. Sucks being a poor student. D:

Ooh more activity. I have DX11 installed, although my card supports only up to DX10.
Edit: Ran the end-user installer and it said as much. Newer blah blah already installed.

Should have still installed I think... DirectX9 != DirectX11.

Click Start, then Run, then type DXDIAG and hit enter. Let it run through its routine and then click on the tabs to see if any errors are reported.

Well, it says "DirectX setup has determine that a newer or equivalent version of DirectX has been installed already. No installation is necessary." If I'm not completely off the mark, Win7 comes with DX11, but I'm not totally sure on that count.

EDIT: dxdiag is how I know DX11 is on the machine. :) I'll double check for errors though.

Yeah that's what I'm running on mine, it must be backwards compatible. Try running DXDIAG like I said, see if you get anything. If there are issues it would show in the Notes on each page.

Another suggested updating your drivers, have you tried that? What version of Catalyst are you on?

I had the same trouble, updating drivers fixed it for me.

However that bench mark is a huge piece of crap so take it with a grain of salt. My laptop scored 701 on low (even less using the full screen fix) but im running beta with minimal slowdown on defualt settings whilst i type this. Could get better performence by lowering settings but havent felt an impact on gameplay yet. The fact that i shouldnt even be able to load the game is enough to suggest the benchmark is iffy.

Not saying just becouse you score low you'll still be able to play but if you do, it MAY not be the end of the world =)

Think it might be something with Catalyst. It's being really wonky. I'm encouraged to hear people are running the beta (which should arguably run on more stringent requirements unless this build is that well-tuned) with not so great scores. :)

You could try downloading the latest drivers, uninstall catalyst, reboot, reinstall.

Finally. Had problems with Catalyst Control Center related to an issue in this article. http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/ATICCCInstallFreezes.aspx

Took a while to fix that but when I did I could finally install Catalyst drivers correctly and the bench now works. My score is so bad though, I probably won't even be able to play it, coming in it a laughable 346 on low. XD Ah well. The game does look beautiful though. :D Mayhaps the fates will smile on me and I can get a new GPU before release but that's not very likely. Thanks for all the help in this thread though guys. :D

Edit: Run-on sentence fixed.

Maybe save up for a lower end GPU, the 460's really aren't terribly priced. Mow some lawns or something, you should be able to scrape up $200 pretty quick Smiley: thumbsup
