I guess the OP would like a system where, conforming to the rules of the community of what is a good classcombo is not extra work on something he doesn't want to play, and that is what he calls freedom.
Maybe something like having only one "class" in the game and as you exp and level up you get points to buy any skills/spells you like, entirely creating your own class. You would not be forced to exp on something you don't enjoy to get a certain skill/spell, but you can get all the things the community decides is needed for a good "healer/dd/support" class. Here there would be more of the freedom I think the OP is after, relative to the system used in XIV at least. Of course, in the end the result is the same, but the one leveling can choose what they like to level and do so all the way without having to level something they consider boring as well.
